If you coach kids or are a parent / supporter of kids who play sport… this video is a must watch.
It should be pumped into the WhatsApp groups of every sport club in the country.

I don’t get some people taking satisfaction from Jim McGuinness getting sacked from his soccer gig. It’s easy to be a begrudger, much more difficult to actually try to achieve something for yourself.
5 points down, 8 mins to go…
Diarmuid O’Connor could easily have left that ball sail wide & nobody would have batted an eyelid.
You just can’t quantify the infusion of positive energy & enthusiasm a team gets from this kind of selfless individual effort. 👊

It’s hard to fathom how we continue indefinitely to lock up the entire country to within 5km of our homes but yet we still allow people to enter the country without enforcing a mandatory hotel quarantine. Makes no sense.
I’ve no political allegiance to any party, but it seems like if Varadkar could balance on his head & cure this virus while singing a song, people would still find something to give out about.
I know it’s parochial, but it’s hard not to be pleased for big Tommy Walsh today. It was a winding road to get back to being a meaningful player in championship football, and there were plenty who thought it wouldn’t work out for him. Nice to see that effort & belief get rewarded
At the peak of his powers, Tommy Walsh was one of the most dynamic footballers in the game.
Perhaps more impressive was his comeback from what should have been a career-ending injury in Australia to get every last drop out of himself for Kerry in the end.
There were many with genuine concerns who opposed the running of the GAA championships this year, but the association & county squads deserve huge credit for making it happen so safely.
Covid would be a lot darker for many without days like today.
You’d imagine tickets for the hurling final will be much easier to get now that the main attraction won’t be performing on the big day. Pitiful stuff. 🤦🏻♂️
James McGrath speaks to RTE Sport about his decision to retire from the inter-county referee panel in the light of the appointments committee not appointing him as one the match officials for the 2018 final
No idea who did the research for this or where it came from, but well done. An incredible piece of All Ireland final trivia... of the 4 replays this decade (3 hurling, 1 football) the man of the match in the replay was a player who hadn’t started the drawn game. Mad stuff.

Whoever thought it was ok to coach an under 15 team to defend and play like this for an entire game should pack it in. Changing the rules would be a big help, getting these coaches out of the game would be even bigger. This ain’t football.
This was from an U15.5 schools game today. It finished 0-2 to 0-1. Abbey CBS are the team defending, Maghera (scored 6-32 in their two games before today) on the ball. This happened in Tyrone-Monaghan recently too, becoming more regular. The rules simply have to change

Donnacha Walsh would rarely have featured in the highlights package on Sunday nights, but he did some incredible work in the shadows. He was always more appreciated within the walls of the Kerry dressing room than outside them. A class act.
I’ve decided to record & put out a series of podcasts specifically around the whole area of coaching. I’ve linked up with
@Temple_Street
so that if people enjoy the episodes you can donate a couple of euro directly to a very worthy cause. Here’s my first effort below. 👇🏻
Assuming the games go ahead as planned, which is something we’ve been looking forward to for months... it would be a sensible move for the GAA to reduce the burden on teams travelling long distances, and avoid all hot spot counties by playing games in suitable neutral venues.
Brilliant performance from Kerry all over the field. David Moran & David Clifford were ridiculously good. Gaelic football is a gorgeous game when you can kick the ball like Kerry did today.
Whoever would have thought that a basketballer masquerading as a footballer would turn out to be Kerry’s most important player for more than a decade. Kieran Donaghy was completely egoless on the field & was the epitome of everything you’d want in a teammate. Kerry royalty.
Jack O’Connor, Peter Keane & their respective management teams deserve huge credit for achieving 5 all Ireland minor titles in a row with
@Kerry_Official
. But it would be remiss not to highlight Donal Daly as the guy responsible for building the house from the ground up.
I know there are no easy solutions to this thing, but stopping spectators going to all GAA games out in the fresh air is a bonkers call to me. I’m at a complete loss to understand the logic. 🤷🏻♂️
The GAA just seem to be rolling head first from one PR disaster into the next one this summer. Forsaking the rules and allowing the use of PUC would have looked great for the association, but it would also have been the right thing to do.
What a different perspective we got on the game from Tom Parsons. No needless negativity. No zingy one-liners. Kick-outs won the day for Galway in the second half and he shone a light on it. Easy.

You can say what you want about Dublin’s advantages, but Stephen Cluxton was there long before any of that mattered. 100 championship appearances & completely changed the role of the modern goalkeeper.
GAA dressing rooms at club level aren’t what they used to be. Players bring their phones instead of their towels & are gone after training as quickly as they pick up their car keys. From today’s

Nobody knows if the GAA & Covid-19 will be able to co-exist without a vaccine in 4-5 months time. Either way, I don’t see the problem with being guided by the experts & waiting it out until we can make the best informed decision. In today’s

We really need to stop comparing Gaelic football & hurling & just appreciate them for what they are. Completely different games who just happen to share the same field. From today’s

It’s impossible for one referee to officiate inter-county football. Umpires & linesmen aren’t helping the way they could. The game at the top level needs a second ref to clean things up.
Gaelic football is in desperate need of a PR makeover. The heavy hitters are brain washing us into believing the game has turned completely rotten, but there are plenty positives to be found. From today’s

I’ve just started putting together a 2nd podcast series looking at the whole area of coaching & keeping kids playing.

The Super 8’s have thrown up some beauts. Kerry going to Clones to take on Monaghan in championship in 2 weeks time. Dublin travel to Tyrone. Massive games next weekend too. A serious festival of football for the next few weeks.
It is genuinely incomprehensible that we don’t already have a tiered championship competition by now. For a lot of counties, today was the last meaningful football they will play for the rest of this year - March 25.
Nobody wants to leave their own, but if Conor Cox didn’t go to Roscommon he was never going to play senior championship football. There must be a few more like him knocking around Dublin and places waiting to be wanted.

Surely for the players giving out about the uncertainty of rescheduling of games for tomorrow, you should be calling on the GPA and saying ‘sort this shit out lads’. They’re your representatives inside the big tent. That’s their job!
This Stephen Wallace & Offaly drama has descended into a complete farce. Embarrassing stuff. But Brian Gavin seems to be getting away very lightly for starting the blaze with what now seems like pub talk and half truths.
It’s no coincidence that this round of games were far more entertaining when played in packed county venues and away from a half empty Croke Park. Should be the same with the neutral games next season.
Jim Gavin does’t get near enough credit for the job he’s done with Dublin. Its like people take marks off because he’s not much of a character in front of the camera. The guy has huge resources, but continues to get the most out of them.
I was lucky enough to play alongside, coach & manage him with

As good as he was, it’s easy to forget the huge adversity David Moran went through to become the player he did for

for so long.
A class act.
At this stage, with 66% of the adult population fully vaccinated, we really should be able to figure out how to get more than 2500 supporters into a huge open air stadium with a capacity of nearly 40k with multiple entrances & exits.
