Breaking: Stonehill will become the newest D-I men's hockey program in 2022-23. The school is elevating its entire department to D-I and will join the NEC. Hockey will become a D-I independent with this move. The program was one of the few D-II programs left in the NE-10.

I don't often post this kind of personal stuff on Twitter, but I do want to tell this quick story. My oldest son, Tyler, is 11. He's a peewee minor. Yesterday his team had a "playoff game" (they can't call it playoffs) in Walpole. Late in the 2nd his team went down 5v3.

Praying for Adam Johnson. Former UMD Bulldog suffered a horrific injury tonight playing for Nottingham. He took a skate to the neck. The game was stopped, and fans were told to leave the arena. Really hope we see a positive update on his condition.

Per NHL source, Mercyhurst D Joseph Duszak is expected to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Exceptional skater and puck-handling D. Finished the season with 47 points, good for third nationally among all players (not just D). Finishes three-year NCAA career with 99pts in 101 GP.

Hockey does this thing now, where apparently we take 6-year-old kids and have them travel the country in "elite" summer hockey tournaments. Kids as young as 2012's can tryout for teams that will play as far away as Los Angeles and Vegas. Grab that $$$. But it's #AllAboutTheKids

Told that the Boston Bruins are close to signing BC forward Marc McLaughlin. Mass. native (Billerica) had 32 points in 33 games for BC this year, including 21 goals. He was also an Olympian.

More and more college hockey coaches are confident that there will be a 2020-21 season. Speculation over the summer was a January start, but some feel it could begin this November. Had one coach this weekend tell me, "We are going to play this year. All but guaranteed."

The ECAC is planning on a 20-game schedule. Teams will be broken into a New England division (Princeton, Yale, Brown, Harvard, Dartmouth and QU) and a New York division (Cornell, Clarkson, Colgate, RPI, Union, SLU). 4 games vs. each division opponent. NO games vs. other division.

So fellow hockey parents, I think this is appropriate at this time of year especially. Find a coach that you trust and that your kid really responds to. If you've found that, STOP looking for the "next team" or the "next league." Stick with good coaches who teach them correctly.

Also feel for Mike Corbett & his staff. Corbett worked tirelessly to keep that program alive. He wasn’t just coaching the on-ice stuff. He was literally trying to keep that program alive every single day. I hope he lands somewhere because college hockey needs guys w/ his passion.

Former Merrimack coach Mark Dennehy will be the new head coach of the Binghamton Devils (AHL). Hired by Wheeling (ECHL) two months ago, he’ll never actually coach a game for the Nailers. Devils asked Pittsburgh for permission to speak with Dennehy. Job opened up only last week.

Northeastern defenseman and Montreal prospect Jordan Harris is expected to sign a 2-year entry-level deal with the Canadiens. The first year will be burned this season. Possible that Harris could report to Montreal as early as this weekend/next week.

Have been talking to some NCAA coaches about youth hockey. Some have expressed a real concern about the number of “athletes” the culture develops. It’s designed to build hockey players but not athletes. Little time for kids to play other sports.

I love this quote from Bobby Trivigno. Carvel said last night that they recruited Trivigno on a 1/2 scholarship b/c few schools had interest. Credited former assistant (Maine HC) Ben Barr with “seeing something inside this kid.” Said he’s “the most unique kid I’ve ever coached.”

Driving home and he says to me ..."Dad, that's even more fun than scoring a goal. Did you see my whole bench going nuts? Coach shook me when I got back to the bench and said he knew he could trust me out there down 5-on-3. I like scoring, but I can't wait to block more shots."

Rand Pecknold has balls of steel with the way he pulls his goalie, and I absolutely love it. Teams wait too long to pull the goalie. Rand does it right (and it paid off on the grandest stage).

Every Providence player stayed on the ice to shake hands with former @FriarsHockey associate HC Scott Borek. Most players gave him a huge hug. I’d imagine he had a hand in recruiting a lot of those players.

I don't coach him (I don't want to, go listen to someone else, kid). His coach doesn't have a kid on the team. He's doing it because he wants to help the kids develop. He totally empowered my kid yesterday.

That's how I handled with a 10U player. If my kid is playing in HS, or prep, or whatever, I'm not handling his business at 18 if I'm not doing it at 10. If he has a problem, he has to address it. That standard is set now. And he was OK, believe it or not!

USHL news - told that Chicago Steel head coach Brock Sheahan will be the new head coach of the Chicago Wolves in the AHL. He’ll take over for Ryan Warsofsky, who was hired by David Quinn in San Jose.
