Now that all '67 expansion teams have won the Cup ... up next, neither of the two '70 expansion teams have won it yet ... Buffalo and Vancouver. If both don't win in the next three years, one or both will break St. Louis' record for longest time before first Cup.
stolen from elsewhere ... Tavares interviewed with 6 teams during free agency 2018 ... All 5 he didn't choose have made the Cup semis since then. Only Toronto, his pick, has not.

Starting to hear more and more that Cooley and Fantilli will both return to college hockey next season -- which would be pretty remarkable these days, and great for college hockey (not to mention their teams). Things always change of course, but that would be fun.
Quinnipiac coaches said they've used that set play a hundred times. Have had chances before, but never as good a one as that. The whole play worked to perfection from start to finish, including making Minnesota players bite the wrong way 3 different ways.
Matthew Knies is a fantastic player -- he may turn out to be the best pro of all of them - who knows. Picking him over Lane Hutson and Jason Polin makes zero sense.

Yes, because with the flu, there's always overflow bodies being stuffed into refrigerated trucks and makeshift hospitals in the Javits Center... How clueless can someone be?
Anyone with a brain understands there are things bigger than sports. But it's 100% OK to be sad about having the best time of year never happen, and to think about all the stories and opportunities and fun that will be missed.
I realize Minnesota is ticked off at the penalty late in the 3rd ... but the PP had ended, the player got back in the play, both of QU's penalties were weak too ... and Minnesota was getting rolled the whole 3rd period. I don't think ultimately they can pin the loss on the minor.
I don't know what they were thinking putting that St. Louis regional in a 2500 seat arena -- and now will host North Dakota, Michigan and Michigan State - lol
@seanmdav
@ezraklein
um - if you win the popular vote by 1.1% - losing 6 seats has nothing to do with it ... they still had/have a 23-seat majority despite only winning pop vote by 1.1%
For those that refuse to understand .... Alaska had to go 15-1 against all of those "weak" teams. If it goes 14-2, it's nowhere near the top 15 of the Pairwise. For anyone who says that's easy -- ask Lowell or Northeastern or a few others.
My current

watch list -- NOT IN ORDER (

)
- Kawaguchi, F (ND)
- Leonard, F (UMass)
- Swayman, G (Maine)
- Perunovich, D (UMD)
- Newhook, F (BC)
I feel like it should come from that list.
Farrance/Dugan/Thompson are hurt by team performance right now
Every year these Atlantic Hockey teams come to the tournament, and they play mistake free, they don't shrink on the stage, and are just a pain in the rear. Every time.
#CollegeHockey
The best part of UMD winning tonight over St. Cloud, is that UMD moves to 2 overall seed, which means those two could meet in national championship game. If UMD was 4 overall, that wouldn't have been possible. Those two have played fantastic games all year.

LOLOLOLOL she's always been mean. Hilarious how you couldn't see that when she was saying stuff you agreed with. Now she's mean and right.
Of the 16 primary starting goalies in the NHL playoffs, 9 are Europeans, 6 played college hockey, 4 of which played in Hockey East. 1 played major junior. One.
Another year of hearing "grow the game" - and another year of teams not making themselves accessible. Another year of blocking full locker room access, even though that's the NCAA RULE. Another year of me complaining about it and it never changing.
It looks more and more likely that zero NCAA sports will be played in the fall... Will we get a college hockey season at all? It's, sadly, one step closer to being a no, as this country remains unable and/or unwilling to contain the virus.
The top 3
@NHL
ROTY candidates are defensemen who were among last year's Hobey finalists ... That's NUTS. ... Makar, Quinn Hughes, Adam Fox. ... That's many levels of nuts. Just having 3 former NCAA players as the top 3 ROTY candidates - and they're all D-men.

Guess who is going to pay for all this incompetence caused by handing over power to a private energy company? That would be the federal government, coming to bail you out. You can thank the rest of America's taxpayers.
I got confirmation that LIU-Brooklyn is adding a D-I Women's hockey program for 2019-20 and is looking for a head coach - but has not publicized this fact, and doesn't plan to. Which is really weird IMO.
BC is having issues, but storied program that has developed a zillion recent NHL'ers. Meanwhile, Wahlstrom has looked disinterested on the ice.... Maybe he should stay, work hard, learn to fight through adversity.... Bailing is a terrible look

NIL is ridiculous -- not because the players are getting money for their actual name, image and likeness .... but because that's not really what it is. It's the wild west, no rules - and it's just way for schools to pay players using donations. Actual N, I and L are meaningless
Crazy score in a normal world, but people freaking out about this are silly. Not having NHL players there was always going to be the great equalizer in this tournament. It's wide open. That will make it fun. No need to blast those who are on the team.
Maybe "it's time" and maybe it isn't. Fine with me. But Lucia did not deserve the wrath by many of the "unreasonable, entitled masses" out there in recent years. I hope he coaches somewhere again, but, up to him.
@mcuban
"both sides"
one "side" actually votes on bills - regardless of whether you agree with them or not
the other "side" just obstructs everything and obliterates all established norms.
not. the. same.
Not a big surprise the best players for Team USA have been the current NCAAers. They are still major NHL prospects. Should've taken more of them.
#OlympicHockey
The fact that people enjoyed it is irrelevant. People enjoy watching Jackass too. They liked watching lions eat people, and fire burn, and car crashes. People are ridiculous. The game itself is entertaining beyond belief right now.
Should fighting be allowed in college hockey? How are we even still asking this question in 2024? It's been cracked down upon at every level in the world at this point.
The amount of dickheadedness it takes to blame covid vax on what's happening to Hamlin... I mean, it doesn't even deserve a response... but I'm just ashamed for the human race these people exist.

and Ted Donato, and all of Team USA for a Tremendous tournament. Truly despite all the obstacles, maybe the most complete effort for a World Junior gold Team USA has ever had.
The Ice Hockey Rules Committee's decision on this was made a couple years ago now -- and is just now rearing its head. My rant happened then. This is just the result.
Shout out to the whole

team. Our College Hockey News coverage, in depth and breadth, is unrivaled -- from photos to articles that cover the story, what's behind the story, Nobody does it better.
Please check out all of our stuff if you can...
I thought Cornell made a couple too many mistakes today-but really,the Red played well. Hard to be perfect. BU just played a flawless game from a defense/structure standpoint. Pandolfo did a stellar job getting their high-end guys to buy into a structure all year, and it paid off
The amount of people -- including anonymous coaches -- complaining about Ivy League presidents' making sports decisions -- when the federal government's plan is "let's just ignore it and do fuck all" -- completely burns me up. Your anger is woefully misplaced.
Was told LIU already reaching out to numerous Alabama-Huntsville players -- remains to be seen if some would prefer D-III schools at this point. LIU still doesn't have a coach, mind you.
The insanity of Minnesota missing out by .0001 - And only because 4 autobid teams took the 4 seed slots for the first time ever. Could cost Lucia his job, but it's silly to judge it based on that.
@paulkrugman
go tell Reagan fans with short memories or no clue, that Reagan raised taxes 6 times, and watch them try to process that info. (it usually goes poorly)
Hearing at this point there's a very good chance Huntsville plays this coming season. But situation still muddled because players have already transferred, and they still need a long-term plan.
Rod Brind'Amour coached the Hurricanes at 12:30 in Buffalo -- took a private plane to Florida to get there for puck drop and watch his son. Was totally elated like any other hockey dad after. I spoke to him and will have comments later.
Tough situation for UMass with Trivigno being suspended - but he plays on the line and got burned. This was correct call. The weird thing was Denver not wanting to use its challenge to get what would've been a 5-minute major. Not sure what you're saving it for there.

I don't disagree - but people are making this into a political issue - when really it's all about having a place at a NY Thruway rest stop that isn't closed on Sundays - like, when people are stopping at rest stops.
Currently wondering how you plan to play in 2020-21 when you currently have no coach, no players, and no schedule. Sure sign that 2020-21 ain't happening for anyone I guess. They figure, what the hell?
The way the Finns are running roughshod over the NHL, you figure would lay waste once and for all to the myth that Major Junior is the best development model merely because it plays more games. But alas, it will persist in the minds of some feeble few.
Once an undersized playmaker, Mikko Rantanen is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound colossus who leads the NHL in points and is crushing souls in the process.
And the scary part? This could only be the beginning.

"Ohio State celebrating the 25th anniv. of their only FF appearance" ...
well - except for 2018
Do your homework. It's so easy today with all the info and video out there on your fingertips. Is that so much to ask if you're going to be involved in a national broadcast? And don't massively mess up the rules twice. That would be good too.

the red herring here, Guy, is that "BLM" is a distraction. It's by and large the bogeyman, and focusing on criticisms of this largely made up issue, is cover for people, so they can make this false dichotomy, and make excuses for what they're not doing to help "blm"
Anyone who believes the Dartmouth ruling today will benefit athletes, is sorely misguided. ... Declaring players "employees" will simply lead to the elimination of athletics and opportunities for hundreds of thousands of young people. Armageddon is coming.
spoiler alert: Georgia will add varsity hockey right around when Illinois, Iowa, Syracuse, Navy, Washington, UNLV and Rutgers do ... which is to say, probably not any time soon, if ever. Peace.

He's a sad misguided soul - thinks he's being righteous and consistent, when reality is far different ... Matt Taibbi is in that club as well.
BU's Daily Free Press used to be a bastion of excellent up and coming journalists. One of the best in the US. We brought on many of them, who went on to full time gigs... When did it abandon all journalistic principles and become cheerleaders for the BU athletic dept.? Sad.
I'm still mind boggled. It wasn't even borderline. How do you call that AFTER watching the video - unless you're drunk? -- I have no dog in this fight other than wanting to watch a great game. C'mon. Be better.
How do you review that, and then call 5 minutes? Incredible. What a massively ridiculous call by the officials in this WMU/Denver game. Not only should it not be 5, it wasn't even a penalty. And you see 5 on video?????????

Quite the night for some college hockey alums all with the Penguins ... Aston-Reese (Northeastern, undrafted), Lafferty (Brown, 4th rounder) and Guentzel (UNO, 3rd rounder) all with 2 goals. I love how the Pens are one of the tops in ID'ing these guys and giving them chances.
With North Dakota eliminated, I feel like you can almost lock this into the Fargo Regional...
St. Cloud vs. AHA champ
Denver vs. Arizona State
"almost" - I could see in theory an ECAC team swapping with ASU depending on how seeds fall. But I'm guessing not.
