The tornado that hit Damascus, Ga. took out multiple houses and has been given a *preliminary* rating of EF-2 by
@NWSTallahassee
The homes reportedly all belong to the same family. Multiple injuries reported. People on scene said, "It was only by the grace of God no one died."
Everyone in Louisville when I was growing up:
"Oh, you want to be a weatherman? You should definitely watch
@JudeRedfield
. You kind of remind me of him."
I'm sure there are some differences between us, but I'm starting to see the similarities 😂
It only took moving 561 miles away from Dothan, AL, for me to run into Alabama's previous Secretary of State,
@JohnHMerrill
, and his wonderful wife. We had a nice talk about life as we searched for our cars. They are such a kind and genuine couple!
Saw WKU was down, so I ran to my car to get a
@WKUBasketball
shirt to wear during the 6:00 newscast. Maybe one day I can get a full suit like
@JudeRedfield
!
'Twas a toasty day at the track, but I am so glad that I went and ended up running into some old high school and college buddies! Can't wait for the next couple of days of festivities (even with the rain chances)!
Just a couple of weather boys enjoying creation!
@jambrose615
and I had fun watching it get to ~80% coverage with our eclipse glasses!
Not pictured,
@BryanBOnTV
...he's on bed rest after using sun glasses to check out the partial eclipse 😎 jk, he's smarter than that.
Category 4 Hurricane Beryl is in historic territory: it's the strongest storm ever recorded this early in an Atlantic hurricane season. And that's not the only historic thing about it! We'll have more updates on Beryl in our evening weather blog.
PLEASE SHARE! Teddy bear found on I-65 North near Kentucky Welcome Center south of Franklin. Flew out of a gray/silver

Had the best time with Andy Haner from
@NWSTallahassee
yesterday! Got to give him the ol' tour of
@WDHN
and then celebrate National Taco Day at Rodeo in Ashford. There was never a lull in conversation! Come back soon, my friend!
If you can, please stay off the roads today. Crews will be working to clear roads of tree debris and other objects. We are also getting numerous reports of traffic lights out, so make sure you treat all intersections as a 4-way stop.
It's extremely important to reflect on the fact that Christ died on the cross for our sins. But don't you dare stop there, because he sure didn't! Remember, rejoice, and believe in the fact that He is out of that grave and lives, so we can too!! Happy Good Friday & Happy Easter!
Great time at Kentucky Derby 150 today with awesome weather and awesome people! Thankful that Mr. Woods, president of
@WDRBNews
, helped bring me home to Louisville.
Also ran into
@rolopez42
, who is basically the president of the
@NBA
GOSH! I can't believe how many of you wanted me to shave the beard I worked so hard for. My brother Kip decided to join me on set tonight. He says things are getting pretty serious between him and some girl he met online.
@tylerwhitetv
Welp,
@MRinkerTV
said he would swan dive off the anchor desk if
@UHCougarFB
manages to throw a Hail Mary to secure the win against
@WVUfootball
... we may not have a 10PM show tonight.
What a day! I'm blessed to meet great people in the Wiregrass who are willing to take me under their wing. Charles Killingsworth took me fishing up in Lake Eufaula today, and we caught 3 big ole catfish! I'll let you know how they taste once we eat them for dinner Friday!
In less than 2 weeks, my first ever weather intern, Mitchel Coombs aka
@TatsumakiChaser
, starts his first TV weather job in beautiful Missoula, Montana! I am so proud of how much you grew while at

Come on out to the Bear Den at Cottonwood HS as the Bears take on the Bulldogs in this week's Game of the Week!
@SylvieSparksTV
and I are ready for a great game!
We met some real nutcases at the

Idalia's track takes it a little farther west and strengthens it to a Cat 3 at bare minimum. A stronger hurricane is possible. Big Bend will likely see the worst, but the Forgotten Coast (SGI) needs to be on high alert. More updates on Facebook by searching Matthew Wine Wx.
While out at an exciting Dothan Wolves game tonight, I got to meet an amazing young man. Jakobe has been very strong over the past year while healing after being shot during a drive-by last October. His great-gran says he's doing great! Praying for your continued healing, Jakobe!
Come on out to Hot's Deli in Dothan for lunch today from now until 1:30 to support the House of Ruth and those who have been sexually assaulted. Tips highly appreciated!
Had to say goodbye to my righthand meteorologist today,
@andrewclarkewx
. Proud of the work you did while at
@WDHN
. Truly hoping and praying for the best for you while in GA!!
Woke up to this 25 foot tree limb in my driveway. We didn't even have any storms last night! It's like the tree just decided it didn't need that particular limb anymore 😂
Severe threat has decreased for parts of our area, but we still need to be on alert! Folks from Tell City to Campbellsville & to the south & west have a very decent chance of damaging winds, tornadoes, & large hail. Storms may struggle to get past Louisville & across the river.
Perfect example of why mobile homes and the second story of houses are NOT safe places to be during tornadoes or high wind events! PLEASE determine a safe place to go during severe weather events BEFORE they happen.
Numerous warnings all up and down this line of storms. Tornadoes, damaging winds, hail, & flooding are all on the table tonight. WDRB is here to keep you safe.
Realizing that the God of the universe came down as a man to die for our sins is mind-blowing every single time I think about it. But that's exactly what He did... for all of us. He was tortured beyond recognition, stripped naked, and nailed to a tree.
Mr. Fred says he has been voting "since they allowed me to vote." It's one more reason why I look up to him. Many people around the world still don't have the opportunity to actually choose their leaders. Americans, research your candidates and exercise your right to vote!!
So much fun to be had at the Popcorn Festival in Corydon! What a pleasure it was to meet so many awesome folks up there, especially Willie and his whole crew!
No matter what the scoreboard says, cheering for
@WKUVolleyball
with the Isenbargers is always a win! Can't wait to see what you all do next season. ROLL TOPS!
The severe weather threat is over for our viewing area. Be careful of impassable roads across the Tri-State. Thank you to the
@WDHN
crew for your hard work and to all the viewers who gave us reports, pictures, and encouragement throughout the day. We have a great community here!
A lot of prayers from a lot of people are going up to the Most High God tonight. There are a lot of people that have been impacted by these storms. I'm thinking about and praying for all of my KY and WKU friends specifically right now.
For my Alabama folks:
Give this man a follow, and give him the same love you always gave me! He is going to do great things for you all.
Go get 'em, Chad!
⚡️I'm thrilled and honored to accept the title of Chief Meteorologist at
@WDHN
in Dothan, Alabama!
Tonight was my first evening on air, and it was a busy one as we get ready for strong/severe storms Thursday and Friday. Here’s our latest forecast!

Damage from last night's tornado very close to Mabson. Numerous roofs were damaged, dozens of trees snapped, and at least one building was moved from its foundation. The NWS will survey the damage from Mabson to western Henry Co. on Sunday.
What a Sunday full of great food and better people! Started off with a fish fry at Union Freewill Baptist Church for lunch and ended it with
@MRinkerTV
and a true Italian meal prepared by my neighbors for dinner.
A major hurricane is expected to make landfall in the Big Bend less than 2 days from now, but we should only receive beneficial rain and a little wind as long as nothing changes.
I got a really big team... and they gave me some really nice things 🥰 It was a pleasure going out to Madrid Baptist Church today to meet and eat with some amazing folks. Hopefully I'll have my collar looking right when I go see them again next month! 😅
Expectations haven't changed since the last post. There is a special weather statement on a storm in Brewton for winds up to 50 mph. We'll watch this storm closely as it moves toward Coffee & Geneva counties. Light rain moving into Coffee Co. soon.
The Christian Super Bowl Ad They SHOULD Have Made
A group known as 'He Gets Us' released an advert during the Super Bowl which, whilst perhaps well intentioned, failed to convey anything of the gospel to the hundreds of millions who saw it.
Here's my take on what they should
Got some snow pics from Fayette, AL! Besides a few flurries and a couple reports of sleet, we didn't get much of a wintry mix in our part of the Wiregrass. Thanks, Kathy Dudley!
If you missed the Northern Lights last night, don't miss your opportunity to catch them tonight! Skies will be crystal clear, so tonight's display will be very similar to last night's. Dress warm (lows around 50 degrees), have fun, and send me any pictures you get 😁
Another series of CMEs associated with flare activity from Region 3664 over the past several days are expected to merge and arrive at Earth by midday (UTC) on 12 May. Periods of G4-G5 (Severe-Extreme) geomagnetic storms are likely to follow the arrival of these CMEs.
The severe threat is completely gone for our entire area. This is likely the first of multiple events for the severe weather season. Thank you for trusting the
@WDHN
Storm Team with covering you during this storm. We'll keep you updated on any future events, so keep watching!
Very large hail being reported in Haleburg in Henry County today. Some hailstones are easily the size of tennis balls and even baseballs. - Photo from Stephanie Karpovich
No change. Going back to sleep 😴. I'm hearing rumblings that Sunday night will possibly bring an uptick in viewing, but I haven't seen that supported by anything. I'll dig into that claim after church today.
This is why you go to the lowest level of the building during a tornado warning. Relatively nothing remains of the second floor of this home in Eagle Point just 10 miles SE of Birmingham, AL.
The threat for tornadoes and flash flooding is decreasing significantly for the Wiregrass. Here are some pictures from
@MRinkerTV
of damage from today's tornado warned storm in Early Co. Location is White Chandler Rd and Grimsley Mill Rd.
The Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been extended farther east to include the southern half of Early County and many surrounding counties. The threat is still 60 mph wind gusts. Heavy rain and frequent lightning are likely.
Based on the current radar presentation, the low dew points across our area, and a couple of other factors, I think the severe weather threat is very low today. A SVR storm is possible & a weak tornado can't be ruled out, but those chances are much lower than previously thought.
Besides some light, lingering showers, we should be done with the rain tonight. However, more rain and the potential for severe weather exists into the weekend.
Made some new friends this week!

There were a lot of reports of severe weather early this morning. Here's a quick wrap-up of what happened around the region. Thanks to
@ChrisFLTornado
for video of the tornado in Greenwood!
LOOK AT THESE RAINBOW PICTURES!! Our Wiregrass viewers were all over this double rainbow. Photo creds: Jim Miller, Tammy Warren, Ann Motley, and McKynzie Pybus
T.D. 10 has formed in the Caribbean. Panama City to Cedar Key folks need to be on alert for a landfalling tropical system Wednesday. Heavy rain & T.S. force winds possible for the Tri-state. A lot can change. Will move fast once in the Gulf. Go to Matthew Wine Wx on FB for more.
The heavy rain has come to an end, but roads are still flooded across the area. Rainfall totals of 6-9 inches across Geneva, Houston, and Early counties. PLEASE, TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN if you encounter a road with water flowing across it.
Tornado Watch in effect for all of SE Alabama, the Western FL Panhandle to almost Tallahassee, and a handful of counties in SW Georgia until 1 AM CST or 2 AM EST. Be weather aware and tune into WDHN News for the latest!
Ian is still a Tropical Storm, but it will strengthen quickly as we start the new work week. The exact location of landfall is uncertain, but it’s highly likely Florida will take a direct hit. There’s a decent chance for heavy rain & very gusty winds from the Tri-State to Tampa.
Flash Flood Warning until 10:30 PM for Geneva and Houston Co and much of the FL Panhandle. Heaviest rain is in Eastern Geneva and throughout Houston. No reports of flooding yet. If you have any reports of flooding, please DM me or email news

"Numerous trees down on County Rd's 20, 67 and 59. County Rd 33 blocked by several trees across the road near the intersection of County Rd 59. Several homes damaged on County Rd 59, NO INJURIES. Waiting for daybreak to continue assessment." - Dale Co. EM James Henderson
Tropical Storm Idalia will be moving into the Gulf Monday evening. Should make landfall near the Big Bend as a strong Cat 1 or higher. Impacts to the Wiregrass will be minimal based on current track and strength expectations. Check Matthew Wine Wx on Facebook for more info.
Two areas of interest (one in the Gulf, one off the coast of Africa) and one tropical depression (which could become Tropical Storm Bill later today) are making waves early in the hurricane season. Watch me on

Many of us will stay dry this afternoon, but rain will impact some of those Derby parties this evening. I'll tell you who's most likely to get the rain on the WDRB Weather App...
A big ol' batch of showers is moving through western Alabama and toward us this morning. Grab the umbrella if you are heading out and about this morning!
Strong storms along this broken line are producing winds around 40-50 mph and even some penny size hail. Strong to severe storms are still possible from 3-7PM CDT for our counties.
