You won’t hear it in the mainstream media, but there’s a simple reason why Canada aggressively backs Israel: both are violent settler-colonial states whose policies toward Palestinians serve the US empire. We made a @thebreachmedia video to break it down.

Good afternoon to the 57% of Canadians who appear ready to question the colonial lie of racial superiority that this nation-state rests on. Somehow I missed this remarkable poll result last week from Leger.

Thursday afternoon before a four-day weekend in the midst of a global media-monopolizing pandemic… the perfect time for Liberals to announce they've green-lighted exporting more death machines to the Saudi dictators.

Liberals & Tories, great rivals? Not according to voting records. We ran the data and found they've voted together over 600 times in Parliament since 2004, blocking dozens of progressive bills. More unites the 2 parties of big business than divides them.

A better idea, if you were interested in staving off ecological catastrophe and protecting workers in a sunset industry, would be to nationalize some companies, use profits to fund job-creating renewable energy & phase them out. I wrote this a while back:

Here's a mandate for leftwing policies in Canada post-pandemic: 3/4 of the country expects a “broad transformation of society,” not a return to status quo. They know our government can harness billions in a flash. We just have to fight like hell for it.

But the fullest picture is that the CBC is neither pro-Liberal nor pro-Conservative—it's simply pro-establishment. It reflects and echoes the range of opinions amongst the Canadian political and economic elite—which includes both the dominant parties.

Ah, a Canadian classic: a capitalist who made his fortune busting unions, gobbling up privatized crown companies, banking in Caymans, refusing to accept limits to resource plunder & paying lip service to climate change as his coal empire is on its way out.

He nearly doubled NDP vote in riding, finished close third. Ran a visionary campaign, breaking with party on old-growth logging & LNG. Perceived as a threat by the brass, Singh avoided the riding. It was always a 2-election strategy. He'll win next time.

Oh please, an utterly decent man having a zoom chat with a left-wing MP. But it's a small taste of the smears—and eager media amplification—we’ll see if the NDP’s leadership ever orient to upholding the dignity of oppressed peoples like the Palestinians.

Why would a media critic falsely accuse us of something—not giving a subject a chance to respond, even though we plainly did throughout the article—the same day that a judge concludes he did…exactly that Every accusation is a confession much?

Why would a journalism prof, celebrated reporters, and a star columnist praise an anonymously written "exposé" that makes accusations against people who were never given a chance to reply? Maybe because it confirms their bias, which they seem to value over basic standards.

He said “the conflict in Yemen is terrible and we're trying to do everything we can to contribute to bringing it to an end.” Continuing to allow Cdn companies to export military vehicles, rifles, surveillance tech, aircraft & provide pilot training is...a great way to do that.

Duncan Campbell Scott, the Indian Affairs deputy superintendent and chief architect of cultural genocide who banned potlatches and sun dances and made residential schools compulsory, often used the "outside agitator" line, invoking it to support the prohibition on hiring lawyers.

Body cams have no demonstrable effect on police violence. But this is vintage Liberalism: propose a measure that seems to meet the moral demands of a movement, but whose actual aim is to rob protests of public sympathy without conceding anything at all.

Researching our @thebreachmedia video about passenger rail, we made this incredible archival find. It’s a cyclists' guidebook from 1896–showing how you could reach every corner of Canada on a vast rail network. Sometimes the past reveals how much better our future could be.

In the post-WW2 period, federal Indian Agents oppressed Indigenous peoples by controlling every aspect of life on reserve. What was their go-to justification to explain away why Indigenous peoples were deeply suspicious and hostile to them and tried to resist them at every turn?

The UN report is itself a very late and overdue acknowledgement of Canadian complicity in the Saudi destruction of Yemen that researchers like @anthonyfenton had long documented and which Canada’s mainstream media ignored. I did an investigation in 2018.

As a Canadian Jew who has admiringly watched Jeremy Corbyn turn the UK Labour party into a force for justice and transformation, it has been heartbreaking to see anti-semitism weaponized and cheapened by his right-wing and centrist detractors.

That the NDP brass see the Green New Deal as a liability, and so woefully misunderstand it, tells you a lot: afraid of connecting the dots, insulated from movements, they remain stuck in incrementalism while our economic and ecological realities scream for boldness and bravery.

How perfect that Andrew Scheer’s leadership of the Conservatives — whose politics are built on grotesque lies about Indigenous peoples and refugees free-loading, queue-jumping and leeching off Canada — would end because of thieving from his very own party.

The notion that Trudeau Liberals are “torn” is a remarkably successful PR device they've bamboozled the media into repeating since coming to office, despite evidence showing they've unerringly done Big Oil's bidding except when blocked by social movements.

Rae also dismissed the U.N. Human Rights Council Expert report by slagging it as just the “conclusion of a panel of professors”. Good to know the new ambassador holds the institutions of the UN in such high esteem.
