2+ weeks after Salem enacted a ban on camping in the city, tents are gone, but the ppl who were using them are still lining the streets. The city promised to open 140 shelter beds by Jan 1st. To date, they say they've opened approximately 15. They add they're working on it.

I was stunned when I learned this. Oregon officials won’t release names/addresses/any identifying info of those who died in the heat wave. You can make an argument for privacy. It also creates huge barriers in the pursuit of accountability.

Word of PPA's legal challenge to 26-217 & criticism of @JoAnnPDX comes 2 hours after today's council meeting. In it Hardesty said, since council cut $15M from the @PortlandPolice budget in June, police have "elected to not solve crimes" adding "they're not that good at it".

Check out Portland’s newest homeless shelter 👀 The Laurelwood Center (former grocery store) sits @ SE 61st & Foster. It has 120 beds & will mostly serve women & couples. They’ll get help on-site finding permanent housing & employment. Will start taking in residents next week.
