@akhan1437
I am so sorry for your loss comrade this system is taking lives they deem unworthy - this is why we work - to save lives . My condolences beloved
BREAKING 🚨:
Eighteen.
That is the number of people who have died as of today after being held at Rikers Island/ NYC jails this year. Gilberto Garcia, 26, was cold + blue when an officer found him unresponsive in his cell, dead of an apparent drug overdose. Killed by Rikers
Right now Texas is turned upside down - millions out of power and all I can think about is so many people locked in cages freezing to death - no electricity- no water - no food - in conditions that no human being can survive - yet there is no emergency plan to save lives
Ok just got a call from Rikers that there are sick people being moved to solitary which is not a medical unit - and that call came from staff not a person inside the lines are still down !
Solitary Confinement has damaged my entire life, people ask me how am I doing.? The truth is I’m not doing well I will never be well but we can stop others from suffering as I do each day. I am a survivor who has a painful existence of invisible scars
#HaltSolitaryNow
Talking with some brothers who were just released from Rikers Island released with :
-1 way metro card only
- no information about virus
- no safety supplies & intake took two days to complete they said. Without any support & jails to jobs on freeze this will be a hard time
On this day in 1964, Martin Luther King Jr became the youngest black man ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
He later donated the prize money of $54,123, to furthering the civil rights movement.
Happy Holidays to all of the families suffering, with a loved one locked in a cage.
It’s during these times that over 1/3 of all Americans citizens are or who have been incarcerated suffer the most.
.
Prisons and Jails Do Not Make us Safer.
🙏🏾❤️ Thank you Everyone for so much love, I’m truly blessed to have a supportive community of amazing people. I’m recovering from surgery with high hopes to continue this life changing work that we’re all dedicated to doing everyday. It’s times like this that test our will”✊🏾🙏🏾
@msolurin
Exactly Why I first started building replica solitary confinement cells then I went over to making VR solitary cells, these projects took so much organizing but people needed to see in order to have any sort of empathy & susceptible to possibly takeAction
One your calling Black People “INMATES” as a show you are spreading false biases stating that “these people” as if their not trapped human beings - the major problem with slavery is it gets validated by these bias shows . People incarcerated are their because inequality thrives
The rise of inmates on social media is at an all-time high. Is justice really being served if prisoners are allowed to entertain millions from behind bars?
NY punished 2,000 prisoners over false positive drug tests, report finds.The flawed results were used to put them in solitary confinement, halt family visits, or cancel parole hearings State prison staff failed to confirm the test results w/outside lab
I have spent over $170.00 on
@SecurusTech
phone calls from prisons this week alone, for us directly impacted this is not a optional expense but a duty that really costs
“Surviving incarceration and thriving post incarceration depends on the amount of resources a person is able to receive. We have the power to change that”
@NYGovCuomo
Dude,you got a award for ignoring the poorest district in the United States of America - also the district where the most people get sent to Rikers island. - also the district that has the highest rate of disease, ashma, lowest family income - most arrests ever in history of NYC
My Heart is So Heavy Today.. RestInPeace Uncle Woodfox your resilience lives on within all of us - we will not fail your mission to FreeThemAll “
I will never stop fighting for the Abolition of Solitary Confinement with my every breath & deed.
@DyjuanTatro
Or prisons make society safer, these views that equality is built on a frame of classism not only allows capitalism to thrive but holds certain races back while others are allowed to succeed in living life. These delusion’s allow for the profiting off of homelessness & prisons.
“It is a sad duty to announce the passing of my Godfather “Joseph Jazz Hayden “ who for most of us was a leader , comrade , brother and mentor - my condolences to all who are impacted by this news - we will have a NYC memorial seevice organized soon ! “🙏🏾🕊️
“There are still more than 80,000 men, women, and children in solitary confinement in prisons across the United States, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics. That figure doesn’t include county jails, juvenile facilities, or immigrant detention centers.”
― Albert Woodfox
Happy birthday to Angela Davis, activist, professor, and author, who turns 80 today! Davis’s leadership in Black liberation movement work dating back to the 60s with The Black Panther Party has been incredibly impactful to our black & brown communities
In the Bronx NYPD holds back resident in housing while they brutally beat and arrest all the protestors with no one to answer to - right in front of legislators
“I always find myself puzzled how an entire county of people can literally say that a space filled with caged human beings is how they survive proudly. But more so their describing slavery yet saying its not slavery. “
In my 48 years of life I have seen a lot and survived through even more. At one time birthdays while living in a 6X9 cage was a celebration of torturous living- to be free to fight that very system that tortured me another year is a blessing 🙏🏾
Here’s to Another year of progress!
“It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I'd been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the Earth as though I had a right to be here."
—James Baldwin
1/12/12 Ten Years Ago I returned to society,my son Shaquille at 17 was there to pick me up as I headed to the shelter he had no help as a youth - Decade later I’ve built my own shelter & reentry program that helps youth who need help with my son

Started off my 🎂 Birthday 🍰 Today with My Pops on FaceTime - he such a fighter & is a civil rights era survivor - From Attica to surviving the south as a immigrant my father had a amazing life before he even became a Black Panther & is one of the first Black Martial Artist !
🙏🏽🙏🏾 I am working on a possible deal that will give me another property that can house another 12 young adults and keep them off of sleeping on the streets and trains … wish me luck 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Nice Grab??🤷🏾♂️ what is this the first ten minutes of V for Vendetta ? Why aren't Yall handing out masks instead of trapping people back into crowded jails for pot.? It's sad you have time for social media poses when people need reaources.
Some people may disagree - but transporting ziplock bags of marijuana & a digital scale in your backpack does not make you an essential traveler in the eyes of the Transit police. Hopping a turnstile while doing so didn’t help either. Nice grab by our District 1 team!
Breaking 🚨: Another life lost to Rikers Island, at this point we’re just allowing deaths to happen because of our lack of persistance to shut down Rikers island
@akhan1437
Such facts- here in NYS the same county store owner, owns that counties commissary as a business, private vendors like
@benandjerrys
is in all of the prisons and jails with super high prices. You go from struggling before prison to struggle even more inside -
“You will never hear about this but today most of the 50 something correctional facilities spread across 62 counties in NYC will be on lockdown - so the staff and prison guards can celebrate while the prisoners remain locked in their cages, this is a century old tradition”
@akhan1437
All prison did was group the most talented and resilient people together at the worst times of their lives but we found the bottom means nowhere else to go but up & together mistakes are learned & shared experiences become the best teachers. Prison taught me survival by any means
@shaunking
@CoryBooker
@thejuryroomblog
This is why in NYS we all agree that since 86% of kids are arrested we deserve 86% of the tax revenue to go to our orgs working to heal the trauma of incarceration & perpetual punishment of drug laws on kids of color. At

transition team, fostering change for returning citizens and justice impacted young adults . I’m honored to be offered to bring change to NYC youth in need.
Sandra Bland would have been 37 today.
We'll continue to say her name and fight for justice against police brutality. Black people deserve to grow old.
So I’m now in the ICU & I’m facing my true enemy 🛌”The Hospital Bed”.
For dedicated organizers the bed is just like the grave, you lay here achieving nothing, a nasty feeling. But the amount of trauma we absorb often leads us here🙏🏾thank you all 4 the love 🙏🏾

BREAKING: Another !! male detainee died inside a Rikers Island mental observation unit in the Anna M. Kross Center at 10:13 a.m., according to a jail source. He's the 11th person behind bars to die this year.
I remember literally being locked in the city jail writing letters to you about the everyday violence inside while the newspapers reported things were getting better. I sat there in the hospital and watched them huddle writing fake reports after beating a person up.
”I just got off tbe phone with Elmira Correctional Facility
@NYGovCuomo
- There are over 50 officers on sick leave & the prison is again on lockdown because of DEATHS - there is a pandemic happening in NYS the prisons are not a separate less important people.
I still had moments of bitterness and anger. But by then I had the wisdom to know that bitterness and anger are destructive. I was dedicated to building things, not tearing them down.”
Albert Woodfox, Solitary: Unbroken by Four Decades in Solitary Confinement
BREAKING: Elmira Correctional Facility is now in full pandemic
- 74 staff tested positive
- yesterday over 200 people incarcerated have been quarantined all on the same unit
- today 40 people from c block ( messhall) are now Quarantined
- a tent for testing is now in the yard
Right.. because jail always works for little kids- it’s so sad that instead of building more resources for the prevention side we’re just going to look at juveniles like little adults.

“In my forties, I chose to take my pain and turn it into compassion, and not hate. Whenever I experienced pain of any origin I always made a promise to myself never to do anything that would cause someone else to suffer the pain I was feeling in that moment...
So AGAIN one of my sons was arrested for the 12th time since he was 13, again No charges - Harassment -because of the work that I do since. When is doing good a bad thing,?my Comrade
