I've had horrible anxiety: inability to make plans being still unvaccinated, paperwork not arriving, $$ (IRS still owes us tax refunds), research ideas that don't hold up the morning after... Tonight I got a paper accepted. It doesn't fix everything else, but it's one less worry.

Food's my way of remembering and honoring. When I got into MIT econ my father told his oncologist his job was done, I was going to be fine. Nine years later, an AP job offer signed, maybe I'm going to be fine. Maybe. I do make a damn good fish, tho. Runs in the family.

🤑 Super excited to study the extent of lead poisoning in England. The UK currently has no lead poisoning screening policy. Why? Because there is no data about the problem, so the recommendation is to continue to ignore it. Our answer: we can do better with data!

Currently, someone applying for a 2.5 year spouse visa with their two children has to pay £10,000 in visa fees. Under the new proposal, this would be a MIND BLOWING £22,000. For just 2.5 years. That they’ll have to extend once and then make a settlement application.

The lack of focal vacation times in the US to me translates into an unhealthy work mentality. So used to the (European) world stopping in August. Planning vacation (first in 3 yrs, between mkt, pandemic, move) & feel guilty cancelling/RSVP no to meetings. + flooded inbox anxiety

Together with the awesome JHC team we have now sent all interviews invites @warwickecon . We had to make some really hard choices, and a lot came down to complementing our talent pool when deciding between many many many incredibly qualified candidates with tremendous potential.

Today: - saw a few amazing talks at #NBERSI EEE - had a great call with co-authors on how to improve our paper - got a kind rejection - toasted at failure with the one person who tolerates my bad and good moods. In total: I'm sad, inspired, motivated to do amazing at my new job.

Did you know GDPR applies to cats? Our cat is hostage at Heathrow and they won't disclose why to the ppl we paid to transport said cat, for privacy reasons. After a year of missing paperwork for hubby, 2 mos waiting for provisional license, this. I can't anymore in this country.

Take care of yourself. Today I stopped working a bit earlier to enjoy the sunset in the yard and drink to one to my dad's memory. That's what I needed and I allowed myself the time. Also, therapy. 7 years and counting. And it still helps. #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek
