Times Square Double Rope Rescue
I want to thank all the firefighters that worked that job for their efforts and specifically Kevin Shea. Unfortunately some of the members who took part in the rescues are no longer with us. It was a proud day in the history of FDNY.
I attempted to like every comment sent to me and answer every text and message of congratulations sent my way. Thank you everyone I do appreciate it. Good luck and health to all of you. See ya out there.
Dennis Smith famous author and FDNY firemen who wrote Report from Engine Company 82 has died. He went on to author many more books and started Firehouse magazine. May he Rest In Peace
Hell we launch interior attacks without knowing if someone is inside every day. LODD numbers were used for years to suppress interior attack without statical merit. Now some bend the science to try and stop interior fire attack Don’t buy it! Interior attack is fast and effective.
I remember where I was when told six guys jumped out the top floor windows in the Bronx. A second call a brother killed in Brooklyn only made the shock hit twice. Truly a Black Sunday. Joe DiBernardo Jr. later died from his injuries and was postomusly promoted to Lieutenant.
Ladder 28 showed how training, determination and bravery are embodied even in a first year firefighters thanks to a great culture where doing you job at the highest level is expected and admired. Having worked on both sides of the house Engine 69 put out this very tough fire.
When a child is uncontrollable we look at the parent when a rookie lacks skill we look at rookie school. They are yours at the company level, work with them to be the best they can be.
5-26-2020 This brings joy to our hearts. Pictured here are some of the LAFD Firefighters who were involved in a horrific explosion emergency just blocks away from the museum on 5-16-2020. LAFD station 9. Please like and give them some love. [African American Firefighter Museum]
"The fire service created these stickers as a promise to go inside and rescue those that are trapped. WE MUST KEEP OUR PROMISE." - Ray McCormack
This mural was created by Noe Lopez for his station. Outstanding!
41 years ago today I was sworn in as a firefighter in the FDNY. It was the smartest thing I ever raised my hand for. Currently enjoying the R group. Congratulations to my fellow Ironmen of 81.
This photo is from a firehouse in Charleston SC the phrase is from my
@FDIC
keynote. Every run it’s there to remind us all how lucky we are to be firefighters. Thanks to
@TippettJohn
for posting it.
At a Harlem fire earlier this week, FDNY
#Ladder28
forced entry to the fire apartment and located individuals sheltering in place in a back bedroom, while
#Engine69
stretched the hose line and extinguished the fire. Read more:
First Responder? Blah. It’s a generic “easy” media term. How about this: FIREFIGHTER. FIRE DEPARTMENT. FIREFIGHTERS. As discussed
@FireRescueIntl
Just Say’n.
You went to FIRE school, you have a FIRE Chief and you ride FIRE APPARATUS. Just say it.

This shocking cellphone video captures Jose Guzman rushing past firefighters and into his burning home looking frantically for his dog. Just moments later, both of them run out.

There are many ways to remember a friend. Today a formal plaque will be hung in quarters not far from where he stood in this photo. There was a lot more to this man and for those fortunate enough to have know him, we were so lucky. Miss you Brother!
Do your job! Do it well, care about your firefighting skills. It’s a privilege to work here. Remember that. Not everyone can or is willing to do our work.
When
@ErichRoden
and I created Urban Firefighter Magazine we felt this photo epitomized such. Later on I found out it was COD Thomas Richardson a great man and career!
I took this photo a few years back of the men cleaning the rig before Christmas. I’d work on getting us downtown so we could visit the tree and get a crew photo.
