The case for replacing confederate monuments with bad triceratops statues:
1. They are infinitely more entertaining.
2. They are never NOT amazing to look at.
3. They vary greatly.
4. They provide just as much accurate educational material, which is none.
5. They ain’t racist.
I had $5000 stolen from me. Unless I can sell all of these necklaces (and other stuff on the site), I’m gonna have to give up on my soap business and sell what few assets (molds) I have left. This could be the end of Stegosoapytops unless there’s a miracle, so please RT!
If you’re not prepared for your child to be disabled, gay, trans, or anything other than what you see as the “default,” you’re not prepared to be a parent, tbh.
Not to brag, but I made a trans Death Star soap. This was ridiculously hard, and it didn’t come out perfect, but I can maybe start selling these for $15 plus $10 shipping. They may all be slightly different.
@AdequateEmily
Something that’s also weird is making Walt Disney the only figurehead. Like, if you watch behind the scenes footage from the early era, a lot of the main talent was the same group, but nobody outside of animation circles is like, “Oh yeah, Milt Kahl was a god among men.”
@ellle_em
@prizzillla
I don’t know the context of the original, but even from a purely aesthetic standpoint, it’s a downgrade. The new one has butt-ugly colors, and removed all the personality. If they wanted bland furniture, they could have gone to Ikea.
Thinking about how Thought Slime posted a controversial video, took it down and apologized sincerely, and everything was fine, because of course it was.
Meanwhile, some other breadtubers were like, “No! Leave it up! This is just cancelling!”
And I think that’s pretty revealing.
@TartiiCat
@Kitchiki
I don’t want to be a party pooper, but Disney went against someone after stealing their original dog artwork (not even a Disney character) and won, so yeah, Disney is almost impossible to beat in court.
@haaniyah_
I have extra commentary.
1. They didn't even do gradients for the eyes, which should be easy, because the label is RIGHT THERE.
2. The second to last column is actually looped improperly, if you look at the numbers below.
3. Does the first eye even exist outside of Photoshop?
@ellle_em
@prizzillla
Also, I hate how they removed the actual interesting content and substituted it with a decorative tree. Essays could be written on how wrong this is.
@OhTheSunnySide
That would be the responsibility of the lighting or rendering people, not the animators. By the time the scene is actually lit, it’s already out of their hands.
@haaniyah_
I found this version, presumably the original. I'm not sure how accurate these labels are, because this is apparently somewhat old, but it's useful for character design and general reference, I guess. I'm not sure why they're labelled this way, but there's probably a reason.
I regret to inform everyone that I have been correctly identified as a biological male with an Adam’s apple. Which comes as a surprise to me, given I’m AFAB.
Like, imagine doing the right thing and having people be like, “No, you have to do the immature thing like me because otherwise this whole incident proves that cancelling is a fake concept and that it’s possible to move on from our mistakes if we own up to them!”
@TartiiCat
@Kitchiki
I can’t find it, but I learned about it in my graphic design class a few years back. Iirc, after stealing the design, Didney lawyers were like, “Prove that YOU never stole our stuff,” and somehow that worked?
It’s genuinely kinda creepy/offputting how many adult paleoartists haven’t grown out of yelling at Jurassic Park. You don’t see adult physicists getting upset at the space battles in Star Wars. Weirdly, paleo has fostered this unsettling culture of never touching grass.
Okay, the original tweet got really popular, so I should try to be responsible for once. While I do think that dinosaurs are wonderful, and certainly better than confederate statues, we should be honouring the victims of slavery and Jim Crow first and foremost.
Someone brought this to my attention. Colin is pretty polite when people shit on the dinosaur designs in his movies, but when it comes to stuff that’s actually important, he doesn’t hold back. I wish more directors were like this.
If you want to know how I amuse myself, I just went out of my way to replicate BoJack Horseman’s Menchie’s order. I tried to run home and take a good photo, but it melted along the way.
@lisadraws
Like, yeah, the first tweet was essentially a joke, and it *would* actually be cool to see more dinosaur statues in general (and less confederate statues), but please don’t forget that there are people who deserve respect and acknowledgement more than a weirdly-sculpted dinosaur.
If I were in charge of the marketing for
#JurassicWorldDominion
, I would have put this in the trailer without context.
The absolute chaos online would have been hilarious.
I super appreciate all the support my suggestion has been getting, but potential monuments that celebrate the victims of what the confederacy stood for deserve your attention, and if you’re going to push for something, push for that.
Also, reparations.
Pay those first.
This sits wrong with me.
Emily Willoughby was outed as a eugenicist. A lot of people in the paleo community were gentle with her, or outright defended her.
Three days later, some of those same people called Colin Trevorrow an actual animal abuser over a CGI dinosaur fight.
“Jurassic Park was ALWAYS intended to educate the public and advance their understanding of dinosaurs!”
Naw, some of it was just adding cool shit for the sake of a good scene. When 90% of Dilophosaurus toys look like THIS because of the film’s influence, your point falls flat.
I had to raise the price to $3 USD each plus $10 USD shipping, but if I promised you the original price, it’s still valid. I ship globally.
Don’t eat the soap.
One of the reasons why I hate edgy shit is because it’s almost always made by white, cis guys who think that they’re being cool. Actual gritty content would require them to understand the pain of being marginalized, which they don’t. To them, bleakness is all aesthetics.
I get secondhand embarrassment when I see teenage paleo fans speaking over people who have worked in the field for decades. It's not that experienced people are infallible, but oh my god, you are literally still in high school. You shouldn't be talking down to ANYONE.
@JennyENicholson
I read it as “something you can play on the radio and have the removed context make it sound like a love song” and I thought that was kinda cheap and scummy.
I am begging people to be more creative with their colors, and yes, I know that I’m gonna get yelled at for my opinion, but come on, wouldn’t you rather see something new?
@bisexualarchive
“Do you hate marginalization or do you just hate being marginalized?”
I find that a useful barometer for people’s commitment to being a good person.
Literally, one of the first things you learn as a white leftist is that when someone has a history of antiblackness, you’re not one of the ppl who’s allowed to forgive them. The fact that so many of you are stumbling over that and not simply shutting the fuck up is embarrassing.
Leftists kinda suck at disability activism. They regularly ignore or discredit disabled people. Obviously, they're not as bad as right-wingers, but still.
@JennyENicholson
I once got recommended a Facebook video where they said, “This line is so deep.”
It was, “You have to have the courage to follow your heart,” from The Secret of Nimh 2.
Just a quick reminder: if you’re gonna be the dinosaur accuracy police, avoid doing so with people’s fursonas or OC’s. There are personal reasons as to why the design may be inaccurate, and it’s generally a dick move to give unsolicited criticism on someone’s fantasy character.
Y’all, elephants are intelligent, but this video is of a trained elephant who’s been abused in order to produce the same drawing over and over. It’s gone viral several times. Please do your research before saying whatever pops into your head.
You can say something as simple as, "Autistic children deserve to be loved and respected," and martyr parents will swoop in and shout, "ACTUALLY, IT'S BETTER TO ABUSE YOUR CHILDREN LIKE I DO. I'M A GOOD PARENT. I TELL MY CHILD THAT THEY'RE A BURDEN AND IT'S VERY GOOD FOR THEM."
“Tumblr genders did damage to the LGBT community because people didn’t take us seriously.”
Naw, that ain’t it. Do you seriously think that people went, “Oh, I was totally supportive of gay people, but a 13 year old said they were stargender on the internet so now I’m a bigot.”
I’ve heard people say that it’s wrong to criticize Prehistoric Planet for its lack of diversity and uncredited vfx artists because we “need it to succeed.”
A) No project is above criticism.
B) Actual humans are more important than dinosaurs.
Let’s not turn this into a cult.
Hands up if you’ve ever been in this situation.
You’re defending your right to exist. They tell you that you’re simultaneously “too autistic” to defend your own rights and “not autistic enough” to defend the rights of your group.
In other words, no autistic people may speak.
@guizhongll
“I’m not on Twitter every second. I can’t monitor the people I follow.”
I’m ACTUALLY on Twitter every second and I STILL can’t monitor everything. With social circles this big, things are gonna get buried, so posts about bad behaviour need to be direct and name names.
I fully expect to not be able to sell this monstrosity, but I made a Trans Solo Soap in celebration of
#Pride
Help me out by retweeting and tagging trans Star Wars fans.
Can everyone please retweet this?
I need to know if someone has a New Pictorial Encyclopedia of the World from the 60's.
There's an image in it that I desperately need a scan of.
I can't stress how important this is to me.
🚨PLEASE RETWEET!🚨
It would help me so, so much if people ordered soaps of any kind, but in particular, I’d love a focus on Pride soaps because the more I make at once, the easier it is to pour the colors accurately.
For decades, people complained about the Jurassic Park designs, then when Jurassic World came out, they suddenly switched to, “Jurassic Park was always about putting accuracy first. Y’all don’t have to like the designs, but stop pretending like this is a new discussion.
People will tear apart media with inaccurate dinosaurs and excessive violence, then praise Primal for those exact features. Can’t y’all at least be consistent?
“Movies don’t affect reality.”
They do tho, because when people see art, they take meaning from it. After Birth of a Nation, the KKK started to become a big thing again. And it’s not limited to politics. Shark killings rose steeply after JAWS.
Film has an OBVIOUS impact.
In my ongoing attempt to make everything in Jurassic Park gay, I’m going to assign characters up to 3 flags, pronouns, and an explanation of their gender/sexuality. Reply with a photo of a Jurassic Park character and I’ll fill this thread with gay.
Okay, people are actually buying these now, so I’m going to answer some common questions.
I make to order, so just DM me your address and the number of trans soaps you want, and ask about other kinds of soap if you’re interested. Then pay via my pinned tweet.
@woot_master
It’s extra funny because of course they’re not gonna waste time on these answers if a whole-ass show is coming. And even if they don’t answer them there, it’s fine. The world will not end.
