After discussion with my family, I have decided that running to be the next Lieutenant Governor of Virginia is the right choice.
Together, we are going to take back our Commonwealth in 2025. My full statement:
Donald Trump is coming to Richmond today for a campaign rally.
As our city’s Mayor, I’m here to remind you that Trump’s bigoted message has no place in our city or in our Commonwealth.
We will re-elect President Biden in November.
Donald Trump just finished his rally in Richmond where he repeated the same extreme, bigoted rhetoric he has used on the campaign trail.
As Richmond's Mayor, and a member of the Biden National Advisory Committee, I will make sure our city rejects Trump's values in November.
Congratulations
@JoeBiden
on winning Virginia this evening. I was proud to vote for you, and as a member of the Biden National Advisory committee, I will help deliver our Commonwealth for you in November.
We will reject hate. We will reject bigotry. We will reelect Joe Biden!
Governor Glenn Youngkin just vetoed a minimum wage increase.
He is completely tone deaf.
As your next Governor, I will never leave working Virginians behind.
Over two years ago, Richmond was home to more confederate statues than any city in the United States. Collectively, we have closed that chapter.
We now continue the work of being a more inclusive and welcoming place where ALL belong.
🚨 Glenn Youngkin just vetoed a bill that would’ve protected people seeking abortion care who fled states where abortions are outlawed.
We must defeat extremist Republicans.
As your Governor, I’ll always protect reproductive freedom.
Kamala’s hubby visited Richmond today! Thank you to
@DouglasEmhoff
(future Second Gentleman) for visiting and checking out one of RVA’S finest - Soul Taco! 13 Days Left! Vote
#BidenHarris2020
. Vote Stoney.
This is just a sample of the vitriol my office has received over the last few weeks. To those who still don’t believe these statues are linked to racism: you’re kidding yourself. Richmond, we’ve got work to do.
Glenn Youngkin's endorsement of Donald Trump is a slap in the face to millions of Virginians.
Our Commonwealth rejected Trump's bigotry in 2016 and 2020 - and will do it again in November.
And, in 2025, we are going to replace Glenn Youngkin and take our Commonwealth back.
Richmond and Henrico are fired up for
@TerryMcAuliffe
! Folks, we’ve got one day left to turn people out ahead of Tuesday. Keep making calls, keep knocking on doors, keep texting your friends. We have to run through the tape to get this done.
I have not changed my position. The Governor didn’t put anything behind us by creating even more confusion, anger and disbelief. I still believe the Governor should do the honorable thing and step down so we can move forward.
We're implementing the
#MarcusAlert
, committing to a Citizen Review Board, introducing an ordinance to remove Confederate monuments, and more. These are steps to the healing our city desperately needs. Thank you for your voices, and I look forward to working together.

Mayor Stoney marches with Richmond, commits to reform measures
Stoney to establish crisis alert, Citizen Review Board, introduce ordinance to remove Confederate monuments, and implement racial equity study. Read the full release here:
I’ve seen Virginia’s potential. It’s where a story like mine was possible.
But today, success depends too much on your zip code. I want to build a Virginia where EVERYONE has a fair shot. No matter where you live.
That’s why I’m running to be your next Governor of Virginia.
Joe Biden showed America tonight why he is the right man for the job.
Mr. President, I look forward to delivering Virginia for you in November, and working with you when we take back the Governor’s mansion next year.
I’ve spoken with the Richmond Commonwealth's Attorney, Colette McEachin, and I made it clear that peaceful protesters who were arrested solely for violating curfew should have their charges dropped.
Many thanks to
#rvacouncil
for UNANIMOUSLY passing my proposal to prohibit carrying of firearms at public events and assemblies. Guns and large gatherings don’t mix - this ordinance will make our city safer.
THEY DID IT!!! Firearms are now prohibited at or adjacent to permitted events in Richmond, Virginia, after a unanimous city council vote.
Thank you

Jefferson Davis was a racist & traitor who fled our city as his troops carried out orders to burn it to the ground. He never deserved to be up on that pedestal. July 1, we will begin the process the state requires to remove these monuments to the Old Richmond of a Lost Cause. 1/4
I support the US Senate candidate that supports:
Jobs for ALL
Healthcare for ALL
Education for ALL
Security for ALL
Equality for ALL
I support
@timkaine
because he believes in a Virginia that works for ALL
Donald Trump asked my community "What do we have to lose?"
Well folks, we had a hell of a lot to lose. We lost millions of jobs, and we almost lost our democracy.
This year voters have a choice. My community is going to vote for President Biden. Are you with us?
As Mayor of Richmond, I removed all Confederate monuments from our city, and made sure our city is no longer known as the Capital of the Confederacy.
We must continue this progress across our Commonwealth. It’s why I am running for Governor.
Mayors are on the frontlines of solving our growing transportation disparities. President-Elect Biden is right to put someone in charge who has the experience and background to get the job done at DOT. Congrats,
@PeteButtigieg
!
Words cannot make this right, and words cannot restore the trust broken this evening.
Only action. Only action will repair this community. Come to City Hall tomorrow at noon. I want to say sorry. I want to listen.
The loss of the FBI HQ to Maryland is a blow to the VA economy. I can't help but wonder if
@GlennYoungkin
's open attacks on the FBI and refusal to stand by their mission had anything to do with this decision...
A stunning move by the DOJ and FBI.
This same DOJ labeled parents in Loudoun County as terrorists and failed to enforce federal law to protect Justices in their homes. Selective, politically motivated actions have no place in our democracy.
Joe Biden knows what it takes to deliver for our Virginia families. In 2020, we delivered Virginia for the President.
In 2023, we elected a Democratic majority in the Virginia Legislature.
This year, we are going to re-elect President Biden and elect a Democratic majority.
As Mayor of Richmond, I removed the last remaining statues of the Confederacy in our city.
As Virginia’s next Governor, I will continue the fight to tell our full history, not just some.
It’s long past time.
I've been a devout Democrat my entire life, and I am not stopping now. On November 5th, I am going to help deliver Virginia for President Biden and Vice President Harris.
And, next year, I am going to flip our Commonwealth blue. Are you with me?
Today, I’m proud to co-patron a paper to change the name of Jefferson Davis Highway within city limits to Richmond Highway, as it’s known throughout much of the Commonwealth. This change is a long time coming. Historic Route 1 leads to Richmond. Let’s claim our due.

As Richmond’s Mayor, I took down all remaining relics of the Confederacy.
Donald Trump parroted racist language, praised Confederate leaders, and attacked African American history.
Today and in November, Richmond residents will make it clear that hate has no place in our city.
I am also pleased to announce that part of our contribution to the Greater Richmond Transit Corporation, or GRTC will include funding so that EVERY Richmond Public high school student will be able to ride the system for FREE, on an unlimited basis, for an entire year.
In the interest of public health and safety, I've directed my administration to suspend all disconnections of water and wastewater service for non-payment. It's vital Richmonders have access to basic resources at this time, no matter income.
In the interest of public health and safety in response to the threat of COVID-19 and in consultation with Mayor Stoney, DPU is suspending all disconnections of water and wastewater service for non-payment. 1/2
Virginia has experienced its share of gun violence. Despite this, Glenn Youngkin remains in the pocket of extremists and the gun industry, putting profits ahead of public safety.
I'm running for Governor to replace Youngkin, hold the gun lobby accountable, and protect Virginia.
It’s clear where Governor Youngkin’s priorities lie – protecting the profits of the gun industry instead of protecting our families. Virginians deserve leaders who will enact common sense gun laws, not veto them.
#EndGunViolence
My thoughts on the NCAA holding my alma mater
@JMUfootball
hostage to a technical rule and stopping them from competing in the post season and bowl games. Let my boys play!
The President’s inability to condemn and disavow white supremacy endangers our people and our democracy. He doesn’t deserve your vote. He doesn’t deserve to lead this country.
A lost & stolen gun reporting requirement builds accountability and reinforces the responsibility we all share - to care for our community and protect our babies from trauma. This is a chance for us to proactively prevent gun violence. Thank you,
@MomsDemand

Becoming a father at 19 isn’t easy. My Dad and I grew up together. He taught me how to be a proud Black man. He wasn’t perfect but he loved me and I loved him back. While this is my ninth Father’s Day without him I’m sad but also very proud to be his son. 🙏🏾
#fathersday
Democrats are the party of the underdog.
We won in 2020. We won in 2022.
In November, we’re going to win again and re-elect President Biden.
Loudoun County is fired up and ready to win!
My name is Levar Stoney, and I am the Democrat who will flip Virginia blue and replace Glenn Youngkin next year.
Republicans are going to spend millions trying to stop me. With your help, I will put an end to their culture wars.
It’s time for Richmond to remove the barrier of transportation to the ballot box! I’m proposing an ordinance that will make bus rides in the city free on Election Day.
Removing the last remaining Confederate statues in Richmond had to be done to rid our city of our dark past.
While Glenn Youngkin embraces the Confederacy, I am running for Governor to move our Commonwealth forward.
.
@GovernorVA
has vetoed bills by
@marcussimon
and
@BarbaraFavola
that would have prevented Virginia from extraditing women who come to the Commonwealth for an abortion from states in which the procedure is illegal.
Glenn Youngkin has failed Virginia. He has pushed extreme culture wars while leaving our residents behind.
My name is Levar Stoney, and I am running to replace Youngkin in the Governor’s mansion. Join me:
John Lewis dedicated his entire life to justice and he lived it with courage and love. Let’s honor him by committing to walk in his shoes. Rest in power, sir. 🙏🏾
I served as the youngest member of Governor McAuliffe’s cabinet.
Then, I was elected as the youngest Mayor in Richmond's history.
Now, I am running for Governor to take Virginia back from the Republicans hellbent on stifling our progress. Spread the word!
I was the first in my family to graduate high school and college. I went on to serve as Virginia's first Black Secretary of the Commonwealth and now serve as Mayor of Richmond.
Now, I'm running for Governor because I believe every Virginian deserves a fair shot.
Democrats need to be united now more than ever.
With extremists hurting our Virginia families daily, I’m running for Lieutenant Governor because too much is at stake for our Commonwealth. Join me:
We’ve launched the Richmond Resilience Initiative, a guaranteed income pilot program that will empower families a lot like the one I grew up in - hardworking, loving, yet living month to month because a living wage is still out of reach. Let’s lift them up, not count them out.
It takes courage and bravery for any survivor to step forward and share their story. In light of these credible and highly disturbing allegations, I believe the lieutenant governor is no longer capable of serving the best interests of the commonwealth and should step down.
Remember when Glenn Youngkin rallied around a 15-week abortion ban, and lost the Virginia Legislature to Democrats?
What happened in 2023 is going to happen again next year when we take back the Governor's mansion and protect reproductive rights.
Are you with me?
It was a pleasure to welcome Madam
@VP
Kamala Harris to Richmond as we wrap up
#NationalSmallBusinessWeek
.
Thank you to the Biden-Harris Admin for the federal funding to help small businesses, like Babylon Micro-Farms, expand and thrive through a global pandemic and beyond.
Our Governor should be our chief job creation officer. Instead
@glennyoungkin
is grandstanding to get from 0 to 1 percent in the GOP Presidential Primary. Shouldn’t the job of Governor be about addition NOT subtraction?
The Lost Cause has officially lost. Thanks, Richmond City Council, for formally supporting the removal of these confederate symbols of hate and oppression that for generations have cast long shadows over the lives of Black and brown people in our city. 1/2
Glenn Youngkin and Virginia Republicans have peddled extremism for far too long.
Next year, we’re going to take back Virginia and flip our Commonwealth blue.
Chip in to help us reach our end of month goal:
Virginia is winnable. It's time we have a Democrat representing us in the Governor's mansion.
As Richmond's Mayor, I helped revitalize our city and put our people first. My fight is only getting started.
Chip in, join us, and let's take back Virginia.
Virginia Democrats helped pass legislation that would reduce gun violence and ensure guns don't fall in the hands of those convicted of domestic abuse.
Glenn Youngkin vetoed these bills. Unlike Youngkin, when I'm Governor, I will act to end the epidemic of gun violence.
