Big moment of the Sweet 16 for me personally - ZaKiyah Johnson needing 2 pts for the all time scoring record in a championship game passed up a short jumper to find Angelina Pelayo who needed one point to reach career 1,000 pts and Pelayo converted a FT to reach it. TEAMWORK

Will Hardin - 6-5 2022 Madison Central It seems sometimes that Hardin gets overlooked in discussions about the elite players in the 11th region. Last years numbers 16.2 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 57.1% FG, 46.2 3-PT %, and 79.8 % FT impressive to me.

I once heard a player tell a coach, " I can give you 15 points a game" and he responded " Yes, but you will give up 25 on defense." Sometimes shots will not fall but defense never needs to take a play off. Defense will get you on the floor.

Hayden Barrier - 5-8 2025 Montgomery County finished 2021 with an 18.1 ppg and helping her team to a 11-3 record. She saved the best for her last game in the calendar year scoring 34 points and leading her team to a Gateway Tournament Championship over a good Ashland Blazer team

I was saddened to hear that Madison Southern's Reece Estep will miss the 2022-2023 high school season due to having her third ACL surgery. Reece's mantra is "knock me down seven times and I will get up eight times." A champion on the court and an even better person off it.

People sometimes questions hiring coaches from middle school programs, youth programs, AAU programs,etc for varsity head coaching positions. Seems to have worked out pretty good for Southwestern (Junior Molden) and Madison Southern (Josh Curtis) just to mention two.

I will focus a lot this weekend on the 2025 class which is one of the strongest classes overall I have seen in a while. Also, there are some 2024's that have made quantum leaps this summer and many 2023s that were wrapping up their AAU careers.
