Someone stole hundreds of

To everyone who had to disassociate/shut down in order to make it through today: I see you. Iβm with you. May you find space to breathe, feel and grieve. You deserve kindness and care, and you are loved.

Update: Rep.
@JoeNeguse
βs office contacted me a day after I posted this and started working on my case & connected me with a CDLE liaison. Today I got my first unemployment payment. Thank you, congressman!
Thread: This is my fifth week of furlough - having my hours and pay cut by 40% - and I still have not been able to get unemployment payment from

Personal news!!! Starting Sept. 26, Iβll be at the

Iβm at
#CUBoulder
where students are gathering to protest sexual assaults at a fraternity house on the Hill. Students are IDβing the house as Pi Kappa Alpha. About 90 ppl here so far with more arriving.
Daily Camera & Times Call reporters will be furloughed for 3 weeks between now and June 30, editors are taking pay cuts and photogs already had their hours cut. This sucks. Iβm sad and Iβm angry and I donβt know if Iβll be able to pay rent next month.
Starbucks employees in Superior are planning to unionize, joining a handful of stores across the country that have begun organizing after the first company-owned Starbucks in the U.S. voted to unionize in December.
Hello, pls remember that your brain is trying its best to cope with what's going on today and it is normal to feel exhausted, anxious, sad or hopeless. Be kind to yourself and be kind to others. Sincerely, your friendly local newspaper reporter.
Day 3. In awe of my

Ya'll made it happen. The first three people to get a BINGO will get a bag of homemade apple cider caramels. Go forth, be merry and enjoy your one day off this week (maybe).

Talked to
@erinmcwriter
about the 24 hrs since someone stole 200+
@ocplaindealer
newspapers that broke the news of a teenage girl's sexual assault at the police chief's house. βWeβre not going to stand for this, and the community isnβt going to either.β
the year is 2054. we've put humans on mars. everyone uses hoverboards. we've cured the common cold. and I'm still mailing checks to certain Colorado courthouses for public records bc they refuse to take credit cards by phone or, heaven forbid, set up an online payment portal.
Horse trailers streaming into Boulder County fairgrounds as ppl evacuate from

. Just spoke with a woman who was at a horse show at Triple Creek Ranch. Theyβre evacuating 60 horses. Could see flames by the time they left.
Itβs been a month since I lost my sweet pup, and Iβve been avoiding going on walks because it makes me too sad. But I did today, and I met two fluffy, delightful, cuddly golden retrievers. Grief is awful but sometimes the universe sends us little love notes, and Iβm thankful.

Hello friends! Today is my last day at the Broomfield Leader. Iβll be freelancing while figuring out whatβs next. If you find yourself needing a freelancer, slide into those DMs. Ditto if you want to get coffee and sit in the sunshine. Iβll be here.
I've heard
#Boulder
folks ask abt
#CUBoulder
COVID cases broken down by students/faculty/staff. I CORA'd that & CU told me it would take 20+ hrs to gather that info. Per statute, that's a minimum $600 fee. Anyway, happy Tuesday, I'm already tired
For context, BMC is across the street from the Table Mesa King Soopers. These folks shop there and know people who died, & this event is part of their response. Also opened church as a quiet place for survivors, KS employees to process, pray, work on paperwork.
City of Boulder is issuing an emergency order tomorrow, echoing Boulder County Public Health's
#CUBoulder
quarantine order, but making it mandatory for several nuisance properties on the Hill.
NEW: John Eastman will retire "effective immediately" from Chapman University, according to a statement from President Daniele Struppa. I'm currently trying to find out if this impacts his position at

removes speaking, other duties from visiting Prof. John Eastman on Thursday while he retains his $185k salary. Received this info from campus officials along with Eastman's employment contract and salary, which I CORA'd:
The City of Boulder just released the list of folks who've signed up to speak at tonight's annexation hearing. Ninety-nine people have signed up to speak.

Yesterday was International Overdose Awareness Day & I feel a bittersweet mix of hope for the progress being made and grief that these resources were not as accessible 13 years ago. May we keep their memories alive and keep fighting for a brighter tomorrow.

I know thereβs this βhardass heartless journalistβ stereotype which is maybe true for some, but most of the reporters I know are a bunch of bleeding heart optimists who want to make the world a better place. Covering our communities is a privilege & a serious responsibility.
*taps mic* Using βobeseβ as a slur is gross and problematic. You can criticize someone without perpetuating fatphobia. *fades into the mist to finish writing my story*
Students are gathering at CU Boulder to protest campus leaders denying tenure to Lupita Montoya, who was one of the few faculty of color in the College of Engineering.

The body of a Pagosa Springs man missing since August was found in Coloradoβs San Juan National Forest on Oct. 30 with his Jack Russell Terrier, Finney, still alive and by his side.
Both things can be true: I recognize the shitty, unsustainable situation our hedge fund overlords have created for our newsroom. It still sucks to feel like youβre giving everything youβve got as a journalist and youβre being told itβs not good enough.
Teri Leiker βloved her job, she loved the people she worked with, she loved the people that came into the store and she loved her customers β¦ She was very, very happy the second before this happened.β
The burnout crisis is very real in Colorado journalism and I'm not sure why we don't talk about it more often. Is it stoicism? Discomfort? Fear? Despair? I don't know, but something's gotta give eventually.
"Americaβs local journalists are burned out. Itβs not just some of them β itβs the majority of them. And women and young people are more likely to endure the psychological phenomenon than men and older reporters."
Just got my first covid vaccine from a nearby King Soopers. I asked my pharmacy tech how they were doing, given what happened. βYeah, you get used to it. The first day is always the hardest.β π
A tale of the Colorado Open Records Act. Three requests, three agencies, same search terms. Agency 1: 881 responsive records, up to $1,419 charge. Agency 2: 3 responsive records, free of charge. Agency 3: 281 records, free of charge.
Nine years ago today we adopted a miniature Australian Shepherd from Mesa County Animal Services whoβd been there for three months. I still donβt understand why he was there for so long, but Iβm so glad he waited for me. πππ
Hi did you know you can turn Palisade peaches into hand pies that you can freeze now and bake later, whenever you want peach pie? Bc I did not think about it until this week, facing down 18 lbs of peaches I impulse-bought, and now my life is forever changed. π¦ π π π₯§
I CORA'd all of the community name suggestions for the new Fruita elementary school and received 43 pages of results. They were snarky, sincere, funny and just plain weird. My highlights -->
For many of us this year has been excruciating, and for many 2022 will continue to be. If thatβs you: Iβm so glad youβre still here. You are an irreplaceable part of our community and world. You make it brighter and more beautiful just by existing. Keep going. π
Some *personal news* β Iβm v. proud to introduce the newest Daily Camera reporter. Cooperβs beat will include naps, belly rubs and treats. He has already mastered the journalist side-eye.

Good morning! I was furloughed on Monday & Tuesday and will be for ~2 days a week for the next 7 weeks. The good news: I have a job I love, you all are incredibly kind and supportive and my dog is still hella cute.
How is it okay to publish a story where an elected official promotes the worst stereotypes of homelessness unchallenged and no homeless people or advocates are quoted?
Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman, who performed poverty for 7 days by living in a homeless encampment undercover and then getting to return to his life as mayor, declares that homelessness is a "lifestyle choice"
UPDATE: The Daily Camera and Prairie Mountain Media will file a petition to ask the Colorado Supreme Court to review the case, Publisher Al Manzi said in a statement.
NEW: Colorado Court of Appeals overturns ruling in Daily Camera v. CU lawsuit, holds that CU is not required to release public records of all six candidates interviewed for system president.
It sucks that there will be less coverage, less accountability and less sharing of your incredible stories because of this. But Iβm going to keep showing up, even when it feels like Iβve been kicked in the teeth, because my community deserves it. Iβm here for you.
MY PUBLIC RADIO DEBUT was talking about stress baking through the pandemic, because of course it was. Thanks,
@StinaSieg

Hi Twitter! I took three days off & realized that 1. There is life outside of work and 2. Itβs really amazing?! Visiting friends! Paddle boarding! Being a tourist! Doing a puzzle and drinking margaritas and laughing really hard! Anyway 10/10, def. take yr vacation time. π
Can also confirm that the two classes Eastman was supposed to teach at CU Boulder have been canceled due to low enrollment. CU Boulder couldn't tell me if this was because of students dropping it or not enrolling in the first place, so can't connect to D.C. events.
Iβve baked four times in five days because it turns out thereβs nothing like a pandemic to take my stress baking tendencies to π―. Wish I could feed you all pie. There is a LOT of pie in my house rn.

Struggling to post pics because so many ppl are using their phones, but PD estimates there are 500-600 people here. Mostly chanting, a few people tried to break down the fence surrounding the house but itβs back up.
