I know there’s this “hardass heartless journalist” stereotype which is maybe true for some, but most of the reporters I know are a bunch of bleeding heart optimists who want to make the world a better place. Covering our communities is a privilege & a serious responsibility.

Daily Camera & Times Call reporters will be furloughed for 3 weeks between now and June 30, editors are taking pay cuts and photogs already had their hours cut. This sucks. I’m sad and I’m angry and I don’t know if I’ll be able to pay rent next month.

It sucks that there will be less coverage, less accountability and less sharing of your incredible stories because of this. But I’m going to keep showing up, even when it feels like I’ve been kicked in the teeth, because my community deserves it. I’m here for you.
