Prince William apologises for being late and quips he met Paul Gascoigne at Pret A Manger. This roundtable meeting will listen to ideas to support Homewards
Here at AFC Bournemouth as Prince William comes to visit as part of his Homewards project. No word if he's scouting for Villa or going to have a kick about with the Bournemouth squad

Long discussion with
@StevenBartlett
about why he got involved with Homewards and linking up with Prince William. Felt that there are too many barriers for vulnerable people to get into work and wanted to offer his support
Here's the full story. An interesting project to learn about firsthand at
#AFCB
and see how firms want to end homelessness in the Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole area.
Just spent the past half hour deleting and banning Covid deniers from the Echo FB page. They all share very similar traits - posting from areas nowhere near our patch, share 'Coronavirus facts' on their profiles and on our Facebook posts. All very depressing.
Personal news:
After 3 years, I am leaving
@SomersetLive
at the end of August to take on a new challenge. Thanks for the support, tip-offs and reading my stories. I am grateful to have learned a lot while working alongside talented journalists. I will miss my colleagues 👏
CEO of Bournemouth AFC Neill Blake, Lloyd Kelly and Kate Scadding of AFC Bournemouth Women will be here to meet Prince William. They will have a pitchside discussion about the Bounce Back project that AFCB lead.
Really interesting debate about working from offices. People either don't miss the strain and stress of a long commute or feel trapped working from home. I can see both sides of the argument but we shouldn't force people to be unhappy with their work situation.
Personal news:
Today was my last day at
@Dorsetecho
as I get ready for a new challenge. Thanks for the tip-offs and everyone who read my stories over the last 15 months. I'm grateful to have worked alongside hard working journalists and to improve as a reporter ✍️
"Too much of British journalism remains an elite closed club. Close to power & influencing it; while claiming to have none but playing victim when scrutinised in the slightest. Its ability to distort our society is one of the biggest scandals of our time"
Charcoal is going to be donated to Swanage Railway, metal grill sheet and foil trays will go to W&S’ scrap metal site and other materials will be recycled. The idea is to prevent terrible fires in heathlands and forests caused by disposable BBQs
My role at Reach is safe and my heart and thoughts go out to good friends, colleagues and many more affected by cuts that are not their fault at all. The other news is that Dorset Live and Wiltshire Live among other sites which will close at some point.
Thoughts below 👇
I enjoy working from home and I don't miss the commute and stress of getting out of Yeovil or Weymouth. But I miss working in the office with colleagues and workplace chat. Surely there's a balance that can be struck?
I have now worked my last shift at
@SomersetLive
. An emotional day but I leave behind a great team of journalists who are brilliant at what they do. I wish them the best and good luck to
@YazCooke
@anna_gladwin
@EliseBritten
in their new jobs!
New week, new job. Amid the calls to IT and remembering passwords, I'm starting my new role as live reporter at
@DorsetLive_
and
@Wiltshire_Live
. Any tip-offs, stories or press releases can be sent to me at mike.taylor

Very proud that my wife has received her first coronavirus vaccine jab at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Thank you to
@UHD_NHS
for their speedy and effective organisation of vaccinating her and others 👏
All set up at
@Dorsetecho

Every football fan in Gloucester (or anyone who's moved away from the area) needs to back this. A generation of football fans have grown up without Gloucester City at Meadow Park. Let's not have another generation miss out.
Hi all!
Quick announcement to say that I won't be at work for
@SomersetLive
for most of October as I'm getting married!
I'll be back in action on Monday, October 21. If you have a story to share, please email newsdesk
@westgaz
.co.uk.
It's really nice to have comments like this. I'm not vain but comments like these from people I've had really great interviews with keep me motivated during a terrible period 👍
Hello all! I'm on the hunt for more cult heroes and colourful characters in Somerset.
If you know a long-serving employee or a popular person in a town, drop me a message with some info about him or her!
Thanks 👏
Not a nice feeling to be confronted by someone on my way into courtroom about a previous court report. Thank you to the security staff at Weymouth Magistrates' Court for their intervention.
@AlexGSeabrook
Given BBC-funded LDR service has played a vital part in local journalism and political coverage, it's really disappointing to ignore this fact in this signed-off statement by every local news publisher. Especially when all those publishers have used LDR stories for their papers
In light of today's news, I have been working on a side project of creating videos for a YouTube channel. Explaining journalism, video essays and much more. I'll be doing more videos in the coming weeks and months.
Any subs would be much appreciated.
The estate that Dorset Police refused to search after discovery of poisoned eagle is the same location where gamekeeper was today convicted of multiple raptor persecution crimes.
Astonishing revelation in this new blog ⬇️⬇️
There's a few stories left to upload and schedule for
@DorsetLive_
but just want to say it's been a pleasure covering Dorset and writing up some major stories around the county. I will be moving to just covering Bristol, Gloucestershire and Somerset.
Gotta be careful what I say but it's fair to say many weren't impressed. 15 minutes of Jim Mullen talking about the decisions taken this week, then about 5 carefully hand picked questions were answered in the remaining 15 minutes. My journo chats are all full of unhappy people
New on HTFP today:
@DorsetLive_
has won the right to name a dead teenager after fighting an invalid court order that was breached by the police.
The successful challenge came after what reporter
@JournoMikeT
called "a very bizarre case of legal limbo".
Just popped up on
@TimesRadio
to speak about the Bibby Stockholm coming to Portland Port. First live interview on national radio and I somehow didn't make a gaff!

Despite the England draw against USA, I am still delighted to announce I have officially passed my senior exams and I am now a senior journalist. Bloody finally.
Back at it tomorrow so please send your stories and tip offs surrounding Bristol, Gloucestershire and Somerset to me at Mike.taylor

Just please don't add me to a mailing list for adult films like what happened last time I publically shared my work email. Cheers.
My parents and wife have all received their first coronavirus jabs and are all eagerly awaiting their second doses. Thank you NHS, GPs, medical centres, staff and volunteers for making this happen 🙌
Best of luck to my colleagues and Reach Plc pals today. It's not been the best of weeks but it's important that we're all in this together and support each other.
Blimey - 840,000 page views in my first full month at
@Dorsetecho
. Thank you to all those who have read my stories.
Email me at michael.taylor

An image that should be made famous of how NOT to cover a horribly tragic event - and a link to the work of my colleagues

who will do the right thing for their community the right way:
Ken has not been detained by police today. His lawyer has applied to appeal the Home Office's decision. He has left to return to his home in Glastonbury

After a busy few days, the out-of-office is on and I'm now off work until the New Year. Thank you all for reading my work, sending me tip-offs and not telling me to go away from police incidents. Have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year 😊
