๐Ÿ‘€ This poor gantry has had quite the week! ๐Ÿ—๏ธ On Saturday night, we successfully removed it from the M5 between junctions 17 and 18 so that it can be taken away, assessed and repaired after it was damaged last week ๐Ÿคž๐ŸปItโ€™s now on the road to, what we hope is, a full recovery๐Ÿค•

Final gritting treatments complete #A30 between #M5 #Exeter and #Bodmin following severe weather in the region. The road is NOW OPEN in both directions, many thanks to @DC_Police for their help over the last few days in very testing conditions. Safe travels today!

This morning our traffic officer Lou rescued a #TawnyOwl from the hard shoulder of the #M5 near #Gloucester . Our thanks to the response from Barn Owl Centre ( @BarnOwlCentre ) in Gloucester. We were able to call on the charity for help and they attended very quickly.

A busy day for us here in the South West! First a dog, then sheep on the #M4 . They were quickly located by are barrrmy traffic officers and taken to safety by the local farmer and his dog. The sheep were issued safety advice and barrrred from the motorway.

Good morning from the operations room. In case you think you are seeing things this morning yes, that's really a Boeing 727 travelling on the road. Its travelling from Kemble to Brislington at 9am using the motorway. Its 40mtrs long, 5mtrs wide and 4mtrs high taking up 2 lanes.

#A38 in both directions near #Exeter is closed on Halden Hill due to heavy snow and multiple vehicles stuck. The A30 in both directions through Devon is also experiencing severe disruptions. Please do not travel in the South West region unless absolutely necessary.

Conditions on #A30 around #Temple have improved, with our teams of gritters, ploughers and recovery agents working flat out all night, along with @DC_Police and @CornwallFRS . If anyone has left their vehicle in situ on the A30, advice is to return to it as soon as you can.

The #A46 remains closed between the #M4 at J18 and the #A4 near #Bath . Ploughs are on scene dealing with drifts of approx 12 feet high. Closures are expected to remain in place for most of the day. Pls see pics below

After significant delays in the #Chepstow area yesterday & today we've listened to the concerns raised & reviewed our approach to the @2SevernBridges toll decommissioning work on the #M48 . The east carriageway will close tonight to remove the works & reopen by 6am tomorrow. 1/3

@ASPolice All lanes have now reopened on the #M5 in both directions between J20 ( #Clevedon ) and J19 ( #Portbury ) following the earlier @ASPolice incident. There is still approx. 3 miles of congestion on approach in both directions, please allow extra time for these delays to clear.

The #M5 southbound remains closed between J28 ( #Cullompton ) and J29 ( #Exeter ). Works remain ongoing to clear the shed load of potatoes. Upon completion, complex recovery of the lorry will continue. Further information here:

Our gritters have been out night and day to ensure the South West network remains safe and reliable during severe weather. Since the 1st of Feb 338 precautionary treatments have been completed covering almost 35,000km, spreading 1,200t of salt and 45,000ltrs of potassium acetate.

The #M32 remains closed both ways within J3 #Bristol due to flooding following heavy rainfall. Additional resources are arriving on scene to clear the water. Traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads. There are 2 miles of congestion heading back towards J1.

Traffic officers were a 'class act' at Birdlip Primary School, Gloucester. Pupils got to see their patrol vehicle and the equipment in daily use to keep drivers safe on our motorways and major 'A' roads. Great chance to talk about road safety.

We've added an 'electric' eight new vehicles to our traffic officer fleet in the South West, as part of a national roll out of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles. They are set to cut around 250 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year and will significantly reduce our carbon footprint โ™ป๏ธ

#Cornwall Our winter maintenance crews are working hard right through the night across the road network, to continually treat and clear. On the #A30 alone, our tracking systems show that there are more than half a dozen Gritters at work.
