@CrimeInNYC
I’ve ridden the subway for 30 years. Ive had my nose broken by a panhandler. I’ve never seen this happen. And had I seen this happening, I would have intervened. This guy straight up killed someone in public.
This is a sick dude.
Slavery was traditionally a punishment for 1) debt, 2) crime or 3) being in the losing side of a war.
The practice of enslaving a race of people who had never offended and breeding them as though they were livestock is unique to the Atlantic slave trade.
Slavery is world history. White people did not invent it, and were not the first to practice it, but were the first to abolish it. The last place in the world to still have legal slavery was Africa. It wasn't fully legally abolished on the continent until 1981.
@JesusECast
@CNN
Tacopina might have asked. The Secret Service might have asked. I have had ADAs who will tell me and those who say they can’t. I don’t think that they can. A more likely source is one of the jurors or typists.
@BernardKerik
@ManhattanDA
Why do you think Bragg leaked the surrender details? Didn’t it come from Trump? I bet you Commissioner that not only did it come from Trump, but there has been no negotiated surrender. That Tacopina wasn’t even able to finish talking to his client before he was on social media.
@ZohranKMamdani
Zohran lives on the upper west side. His parents are an academic and a film producer. He was born into tremendous wealth and privilege.
This is a hobby for him. He does not take his position seriously.
@nycDSA
@ReElectNydia
Thus is all performative. They are not interested in changing minds or helping Palestinians.
You cannot stand outside and scream at a meeting that you were invited into.
It’s not even performative, it’s a grift. DSA members are largely paid. Which is why the org is broke.
@JuliaCarmel__
Good Cause is a time bomb for the middle class landlord reliant on income. It is a vehicle for corporate real estate interests who can absorb the short term loss.
@NYCComptroller
I’m just looking at this graph. Apparently you don’t need a statistics education to be Comptroller. According to this, the budget for the NYPD has gone down. I suspect the reason overtime is up is because we don’t have enough uniforms. Right?
@OsseChi
@housing4allNY
We have had rent control in this City for 100 years. During all that time middle class have been able to afford tenancy and property ownership alike. You do Good Cause and the only landlords in this City will be corporations. Maybe that’s the point. I don’t know.
@EmilyAssembly
The crime rate is not falling Emily. You have to compare the rates with those in 2019 before the criminal justice reforms. And people know, anecdotally, because their local pharmacy has locked up its inventory or closed completely. If you ride the subway you know anecdotally.
@ErikFrankel
Anybody who has owned a private business since the European Enlightenment might have guessed that taxes would have been the greatest threat to the business’ bottom line.

He’s not expressing an aversion to primaries. I don’t think. I think he is criticizing moderate Dems for saying progressives should not challenge moderate incumbents while supporting moderate challengers to progressive incumbents.

You could also read the tweet. The tweet does not deny the prior/current existence of slavery, it claims that the Atlantic slave trade was unique.
@ScooterCasterNY

Nothing says protesting a killing at Broadway and Lafayette like blocking working people from getting home at 63rd and Lex. What exactly is being protested here? This decision is being made by Alvin Bragg at Hogan Place or 80 Centre.
@NYCComptroller
@streeteasy
You don’t think that the threat of Good Cause is causing people to take apartments, particularly in multi family houses off the market? It’s happening in Maspeth and Sunnyside.
@JuliaCarmel__
I can’t get over this tweet. Effectively threatening to sue anyone who claims that her public political organization of anti-semitism. Can you imagine if that were allowed?
This is from a government official. Saying “do not criticize me or there will be legal consequences.”
@nycDSA
@ReElectNydia
I ran this meeting which was for my neighbors to meet their electeds. I paid for the dinner out of my pocket. Invited everyone.
DSA was welcome.
These people talked first. Then walked out. And started to scream at the staff and patrons.
@CabanD22
@NYWFP
You are forcing small landlords out of the market and raising property taxes everywhere but on the wealthy. What do you think I’d going to happen? Something has to give.
I passed a homeless person sleeping on a subway vent no Lex Avenue last night. A block from the Roosevelt Hotel.
The reality is, that had he been born in Venezuela and not the United States, the government would be paying a corporation for a hotel room.
@DanielleBrecker
I’m sorry you lost. I know it is an often thankless job. As a losing candidate in that race I remain confused as to why you endorsed and campaigned for Juan Ardila for State Assembly in our district. I hope you are more discerning going forward. Thank you for your service.
@TheAmishDude
@RitchieTorres

No he is putting it in with cuts to the IRS. Which is a net loss to revenue. The government is projected to get $1.80 on every dollar spent on IRS enforcement. A net 80% return on investment.
It’s just protection for the ultra rich not to pay their taxes.
The other night Colbert said that “Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, and it’s the furthest thing from it.”
That’s really the problem with the DSA. Progressive policy is usually hopeful and positive. The DSA is cynical, sarcastic, performative.
@ny_my_ster
It is strange to schedule such a rally after Hamas launches a violent offensive against a civilian population. I don’t think Gandhi would have done that. But I don’t think Zohran is actually interested in helping anyone.
Three months ago I wrote that
@nycDSA
was ultimately a grift uninterested in accomplishing the goals of Bernie’s 2016 campaign. A chorus of DSA said there were only three paid staff.
Of course, that was nonsense.
@MarkLevineNYC
@ManhattanDA
Do you have any guesses as to what the charge is? I’m no fan of Trump, but how can paying off a porn star to protect your business’s brand be illegal? It’s unseemly, but companies avoid bad press that way all the time.
@DecaturTenant
@BobHoldenNYC
It’s very disappointing. I don’t understand how their leadership makes decisions. It’s done in secret.
I don’t know if the organization is changing or if I’m just getting to know it better. I worked very hard for Bernie in 2016. They don’t want me.
I just can’t believe this. There is so much political value in and moral good sense for Salaam to have reported this encounter accurately.
He would instantly become a city leader.
@JuliaCarmel__
Good luck with the law suit. Do you know what the standard is for criticizing a public political organization? You probably don’t. It’s impossible.
Public institutions have very little protection. Nor should they.
@hailieforqueens
Hailie, both you and Muccioli supported Juan last year. I think you owe it to the public to explain how careful you were in making that choice. It’s a hell of a thing to reverse position and not tell the public. And Adam RAN HIS CAMPAIGN!
One of the things fueling the high level of migrants into the United States is the offer of free housing.
Not just the collapse of Ecuador and Venezuela or low unemployment.
When you make that choice you are choosing to close libraries early and delay needed NYCHA renovation.

What are you turning out for?
What is the Palestinian proposal that you are backing?
My understanding is that Palestinian leaders have rejected every proposal for a state of their own going back to the UN in 1948. Am I misinformed?
@benshapiro
Another reason Ben is that the criminal justice system usually doesn’t ignore black on black or black on white crime. It DOES ignore white on black crime. You disagree with that? I’m not denying that this isn’t politically motivated. But I am there is a utility here.
@CrimeInNYC
The Manhattan DA asked for 10k bail on a client of mine accused of violating an order by harassment (a violation, not a crime), who was born here, employed for 20 years, and had a wife employed here and child in private school here.
But these guys were RORd.
@benshapiro
The Amazon development would have costed the taxpayer millions in tax breaks for the company.
Disney saves the Florida taxpayer millions by having its security, fire department and maintenance staff.
That’s the difference for the taxpayer who may not care about social issues.
@ZohranKMamdani
Mayor Adams has no power over US policy. Just because everything is a publicity stunt for you, and every tragedy a political opportunity for you, does not mean that other people have to play along

@DianaAyalaNYC
@errollouis
@dr_yusefsalaam
I agree that we shouldn’t do this. But first, the CM went public with this. Second, he did it while canceling a police ride along.
So although the CM never explicitly said that the Officer behaved badly, I think that that was the implication and that item 3. Is misleading.
Contrary to popular opinion, it is not the providence of these phony “progressives” to choose who represents the people of
#AD37
for them, simply because
@JuanArdilaNYS
is no longer convenient to them. They recruited him. They don’t get to cut his throat and keep credibility.
@EmilyAssembly
Assemblywoman, because you did not raise taxes on the wealthy like you have repeatedly promised that you would, money going to migrants will necessarily come out of the pocket of state employees and construction for affordable housing.
@skrichev13
@NYCComptroller
Lander too? I ran against Juan. I did everything I could to make sure that he wasn’t elected. Do any of these people who lined up to endorse him take any responsibility for their endorsements? Do any of them feel any loyalty to Juan or to their own word?

Do you know Vinoo? Or did you Google me?
Dude, I don’t care. I’m self employed. Vinoo is not my boss. Sorry to dissuade you buddy. And I haven’t written anything I wouldn’t have shown on the front page of the paper.
@RezaC1
You are missing an equation here to complete your conclusion.
How many people live in the 30 shelters.
Data shows that there are 150k migrants in NYC. So, contrary to what you wrote 1200 of 150k would be 800 per 100k. Less than the 1088 average you cited.
@DecaturTenant
@dsmith1462
@BobHoldenNYC
It’s not that sinister or covert. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not unusual for cops to give people a break. Especially if they are sober and cooperative.
It would be UNUSUAL for another city employee to get written up. And damn near unheard of for an elected official.
@BobHoldenNYC
Also, the right to shelter was contemplated as a way of getting New Yorkers off of the street. Not a “vacancy” sign for the Western Hemisphere. And I’m somebody who thinks that we SHOULD be letting millions more into the country legally.
@SweetMiorita
@TWLadyGrey
What are you saying? That there aren’t rocket attacks from Gaza? That there wasn’t a massive attack from Gaza on 10/7?
Say what you mean.
@CrimeInNYC
I want to add a little context here that I haven’t seen a crim attorney mention:
The basis for asking for bail is the likelihood of the defendant returning to court. I cannot imagine a defendant more likely to flee than a recently arrived undocumented alien accused of a felony.
@SweetMiorita
@TWLadyGrey
You should check with the Palestinians. See if honoring and having cease fire is something that they are behind.
I’m not being snide or flippant. I think that a ceasefire is warranted. But the marches I see only ask for Israel to abide by a cease fire.
If this is true we should primary her. As a Bernie guy, I have to admit that I felt somewhat justified when Trump beat HRC. But I would never hurt Trump’s opponent.
Im increasingly convinced that these far Left people care very little about the country.
BREAKING: Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib started a digital campaign urging people to commit to not voting for President Biden unless he stops supporting Israel.
Tlaib wants a second Trump term. Democrats should primary her.

Was there ever a vote to expel Santos? I don’t think that there was.
McCarthy didn’t bring it to a vote. This is a misleading criticism and Gillen either knows that or should know that.
@votejgr
The prosecution’s obligation to turn over discovery is already black letter law in both People v. Rosario and Brady v. Maryland. The current system encourages a lackadaisical defense bar and a burden on the District Attorneys by which very few misdemeanors can be prosecuted.
@votejgr
“Accountability?” You endorsed this guy! Campaigned for him! You don’t even acknowledge that! Have the humility to simply say, “I’m sorry I made a mistake.” You can’t even bring yourself to write that. Accountability. You don’t know what it means.
