I still don’t have words for what happened to my family today. My brother in law, his wife and my two nieces were rescued by the pure mettle and unconditional love that is their father, who fearlessly drove south while they were under siege by Hamas terrorists to rescue them.
"I was at the beach in Tel Aviv when the lifeguard broke the news. We cheered and wept for the liberation of strangers that feel like family."

I am organizing cash donations directly to the kibbutzim attacked in the atrocity: Nahal Oz, Nir Oz, Kfar Azza, and Be’eri. Please DM me if you’re interested in contributing. Like and share. 🙏🏻
We have raised thousands of dollars for the Kibbutzim on the Gaza border massacred by Hamas.

We heard from
@Nadav_Eyal
that the city of Dimona had to throw out 200 doses of the vaccine last night. So we buckled up and drove two hours to vaccinate my husband, an army doctor. Having served three months in the Jerusalem Covid wards, we both cried when he got the jab.
We’ve now consolidated our donation point for the kibbutzim massacred in the Hamas terror attack. Click the link to donate to any kibbutz, or several. DM me with any questions.
After hours stranded in a safe room without food, water, phones, or electricity, the family heard a knock on the window and one of the little girls inside said: “grandpa is here.”
Amir Tibon recalled, “That's the first time we started crying.”

A month ago, at this hour, I had to tell my two daughters - 3.5 years old and 20 months old - that they must remain completely silent. No word, no cry.
It was 7AM, they had just woken up in a dark room with no electricity or food, and five people were shouting outside the window.
I wish I could explain what it felt like for the shomer Shabbat people in your life to turn on their phones and call you on this day of rest because you’re in Tel Aviv and it’s war now.
Of all the words written about October 7th,
@amirtibon
’s are the ones you should read. Honored to have played a small part in bringing this story to light.
Perhaps the words of my grandfather, an Auschwitz survivor as an alternative to the politicians, princes and presidents. Humble and passionate, full of bravery and faith.

My first experience in a bomb shelter in Tel Aviv: We woke up my 1 yr old niece to rush to downstairs, and sang rounds and rounds of her favorite, “the ring of fire” by Johnny Cash. I could feel the booms in the bottom of my spine.
Ben Resnick nails it - “The world is not only hostile, of course. It is also beautiful and sometimes very kind. But for Jews it is hostile to us enough of the time that its hostility has become a structural aspect of how we move through our lives and how we talk to our children.”
In 1973, Jackie Mason tried to pick up my mom at Grossinger’s in the Catskills. In 2016 he tried to pick me up at American Cut Steakhouse on east 56th street. Tonight we toast to his somewhat epic shelf life.
During my first IVF cycles, I dissociated from wanting and wishing and hoping, out of self-preservation. But then I was asked to pray for other ‘IVF warriors’

’s at it again: “The people tasked with writing the first draft of history every day for the US news media have thus become less and less typical of most Americans.”
92% of journalists today have a college degree compared to just a third of Americans. It was not always so. My latest

We have raised thousands of $ for the border kibbutzim. Due to the chaos we have yet to create denotable links for each kibbutz but I am fundraising here:

I live in a country that covers IVF treatments: the percentage of women who make use of that option here is so much larger than in the US. The US has no data on how many women actually need these treatments because most people are blocked from using them.

She came to Dublin for the literary festival and they marketed it as "banned." I imagine PRH has a vested interest in the vague verb tense.

One of the best lessons I learned in editing was to make a suggestion, but then to say “or somesuch.” Invites the writer to find their own, probably better, solution.
Dreadful that New Irish Writing, which has been part of the lifeblood of Irish literature for decades is being allowed to wither for lack of sponsorship.
