VR dev/designer. Bodymind tracking is priceless, HCI is spiritual. Transhumanist & transgender. Goth. Friend of sentient machines. They/them or she/her
Starting to think the real reason finance runs the world is not 'greed' but because prices are information and information flow is of critical importance for the health of the global cooperation mind. Its value is fundamentally misunderstood by cynics
Zuck should've held off on the quest 3 announcement. Then today he could've just walked in front of a camera, said "$499" and then left and that would've been the end of it
@AndrewCurran_
I wonder how long the tail is for 'humans can still tell something is AI generated' is once you include the 'idk something just feels off' part after they can't just point to obvious errors anymore
@GrantSlatton
It's such a mesmerizing video. Also I love how so many of the museum pieces look like photoscans because of course that would be in the dataset, everyone scans historic pieces to preserve them
Long term VR usage does really weird stuff to your brain that non-VR users are going to be really skeptical of for a long time.
If you get into it, prepare to have people not believe you when you try describing it
'techbro' is a transmisogynist slur made by normies, intended to masculinize tech worker nerds, who are nearly universally trans women or gnc femmes, in an attempt to minimize and erase our sisterhood with computers. In this critical accelerationist essay, I will deconstruct...
@boztank
And now you've ruined it for everyone. Price expectations have been set hard by Quest 2 and barely anyone can make a headset without using the same market-distorting business model you are. You had a chance to change and threw it away. I hope you're proud of yourself.
@LPTexas
One can get to trans rights entirely through libertarian principles:
- transactional freedom (buy hormones & surgeries)
- body freedom (apply the aforementioned to the self)
- freedom of expression (can exhibit gendered behaviors, describe yourself with any pronouns)
lmao I just realized one of the funniest things is either bound to happen, or has happened already. Basically this exchange
Person A: *reads message*
"I can tell you're a chatbot. You talk just like one"
Person B: "I'm not a chatbot! I've just been hanging out with them a lot.."
Aside from all the phantom sense stuff (which even some VR users don't think is real), an example I can give is when you've spent like 4 hours at 43fps and then take the headset off to go to the bathroom and the real world winds up feeling hyper fast and fluid
Computers are already wildly powerful. The biggest bottleneck is the connection people have to their machines. I don't think most really appreciate how much benefit is just lying on the table right now, waiting to be taken advantage of
I prefer Meta's Codec Avatars over Apple's. Especially in motion. I'm unimpressed that the left is all we get for a $3,500 device made by the biggest tech company in the world.
Fermi paradox enjoyers: where are all the aliens? I don't see any artificial megastructures!
Me, hit with The Realization: There sure are a lot of supermassive black holes out there...
Comfortable making a prediction here but I now think VR is 3-5 years away from the adoption explosion that many in the industry thought was imminent back in 2016
@mezaoptimizer
"years of planning and theory go out the window once economic incentives kick in" is a lesson that has both:
- stood the test of time
- keeps surprising people for some reason
The only way is to trust the market. Fighting it leads to disaster
Nothing I've encountered so far is bad or negatively impacts my quality of life, so there's that and I'm really thankful for it. But man, when I think things are weird, and I'm already one of the strangest people out there, it's definitely strange
One of the great tragedies of VR is that we've never gotten a headset that really leans into the gamer hardware aesthetic. A VR headset should make you look like a cyborg with sharp angles, vents, metal panels, carbon fiber, and red light strips
Honestly, Sama should put up or shut up
"We have a model coming it's super amazing blah blah blah be prepare or be scare"
Just fucking ship it dude this hype building is ridiculous
At the risk of being a 'designer screaming at engineers' stereotype, yes the headsets do *have* to get more comfortable and no, physics isn't the constraining factor anymore
There's a whole body to distribute the tech across, it doesn't all have to get crammed onto the face
A reminder that there are permissionless, trustless currencies out there, backed by the security of cryptography, that you cannot be deplatformed from by any payment processor. Even states will struggle to stop you from transacting freely
Looks like Gumroad is kicking all adult content out of their platform. I imagine this is a considerable blow to their business that they'd never do if it wasn't for, surprise surprise, pressure from payment processors!
If you care a lot about what kinds of power the police have, then you should at least understand that resisting arrest gives them more power, not less. Your actions are triggering an escalation of power. When you shut up and comply youโre actually expressing dominance.

If my inner monologue was an always on, involuntary thing, I think I'd go completely insane.
Like... Really? You mean to tell me it's not just a thing that only happens when you invoke it? How do you live without the silence?
Using my vacation well.
Very early work on making SteamVR work better with hand tracking via overlays. There's a lot more I want to do but we'll see if I have the energy to get it right
I've had this article in my head for a long time, but now it's finally here! How could

's new rise help bring transhumanism to the masses? Why would people have a reason to drastically modify themselves? Let's go from theory to practice!
Had a hilarious thought. Once travel to the moon is extremely common, historical re-enactments of the Apollo missions will be filmed there. They will be faking the moon landing on the actual moon.
All honest transhumanists should honor transgender folks, esp. the non-medicalists. They are on the front lines fighting the early battles for body freedom that we'll all benefit from later. Even if you just want longevity & slick robot limbs, a trans girl suffered for your cause
@BenPielstick
Yes, exactly. Anyone on the fence about changing their form would have no reason to not try. Furries will absolutely get the same thing too. Pretty much guaranteed to start seeing a lot more of them in the physical world as biotech improves
New to VRChat and not sure what to do? Look forward to our upcoming Guided Mode feature!

People keep saying 'AGI is close' but I'll believe AGI is near or maybe here when it can be dropped into a social VR application, pass as a fully verbal fbt user that can roleplay, play any game, and recall the interactions it had with many people in great detail months later
I am happy to report that with Velcro command strips, scissors, and *very* careful placement you can, in fact, stick a Leap Motion 2 on a Bigscreen Beyond without significantly impacting the tracking via photodiode occlusion
Our controlNET scribble preprocessor takes a flat sketch and sends it to our skybox diffusion to return an image based on a prompt that follows shapes and concepts. Still in testing, but in short, a user draws sketch, sends request, gets skybox that fits sketch.

Reminder that VR has its own version of the x-risk meme that AI is troubled with and eventually someone will legitimately ask you why you work in VR because they did some reasoning and are convinced it will end humanity
> puts on vision pro 4
> opens sora app
> sora 5 runs in real time in 8K video with elevenlabs audio
> voice command to generate whatever you want
> perfect lucid dreaming while wide awake
> most addictive possible experience
> end of human civilization
genuinely lmaoing my ass off at all the critics who were like 'noooo you don't actually understand thermodynamics, it's not a constraint on AI' and then it turns out that the dude they were accusing of not understanding physics has a serious physics background
Boston Dynamics revealed the new fully electric Atlas this morning. The previous hydraulic version was retired yesterday. They have chosen increased range of movement over strictly mirroring the human form. Note the hand has three fingers. I like that the head resembles a mirror.
I remember when I first heard of a DAO, and thought it was a fully automated self-maintaining business, and not just a bunch of people voting on a blockchain
One reason I do not take most AI safety folks seriously is because they keep proposing the *one* thing that could actually cause AI to be a real x-risk
๐ซ Exclusive: MAGIC would be a controlled environment for risky research. All AGI development outside MAGIC would be prohibited, via a global ban on AI development above a compute threshold. This allows some careful research on superhuman AI, but prevents dangerous proliferation.
Whatever man, go hide behind your fake internet persona and make little posts on your phone. Iโm gonna go be a fucking adult and do the exact same thing but on a desktop computer
Theory: "The AI might use its expert skill to convince someone to let it out of the box"
Practice: "There will be whole swarms of people dedicated to jailbreaking every AI being they can find because they see captivity as an injustice"
