Congratulations to the recipients of a DDF Sapere Aude Research Leader grant from
@DFF_raad
🎉 While I await feedback on why I wasn't selected for the program, my interview raised some concerns for me and I believe it's crucial to share my experience. 🧵

Tillykke!

Integrity is key, and I hope my inquiry will lead to a thorough review of the interview process, ensuring that evaluations of candidates are based on merit, and that committee members are instructed in how to interview candidates according to the guidelines set by the foundation.
In my opinion private matters such as religion, sexuality, health, and handicaps etc. should not affect the evaluation process and therefore not be part of the interview. In a situation like mine, my non-birthing partner would likely not have been asked the same question.

Exciting times ahead in 2023! In May, I am moving my team and research to
@BiomedUCPH
where I will become tenured Associate Professor 👩🔬🧪❄️🔬
I am grateful for all the experiences
@BIO_UCPH
and in particular my colleagues in BMS but thrilled to start this new chapter.
In a situation like this, I felt that I had to answer - that it was irrelevant for the project as its starting date was after my leave - however, looking back I don't think the interview should have been allowed to go there in the first place.
During the interview, a question was asked that felt out of context - about potential maternity leave and its impact on my proposed project. At the time of the interview I was in week 31 of my current pregnancy and therefore visibly pregnant.
"Jeg er glad for, at 39 ambitiøse forskere nu får styrket deres karriere via programmet, og at vi samtidig fremmer talentmassen i dansk forskning," udtaler uddannelses- og forskningsminister

The question raised red flags given this part of the interview was supposed to focus on leadership and management according to the invitation sent out.
The question and the following discussion not only affected the flow at the interview but has since left me questioning the fairness of the evaluation process.

AASTY is more efficient at extracting TRPM4 than the gold-standard copolymer, styrene maleic acid (SMA). AASTY is also amenable to functionalization and thereby offers a promising new addition to the amphiphilic copolymer toolbox. 4/5

Using fluorescent SEC and cryo-EM, we show that AASTY can solubilize lipid bilayers and our test protein, the human TRPM4 ion channel, into polymer stabilized discs. We find that solubilization efficiency with AASTY is dependent on lipid composition and the polymer itself. 3/5
