Unsolicited advice for students looking for a PI:
Do not admire people for the papers they have. Wait to meet them and see by yourself what’s behind a Nature, a Science or a Cell. That’s what really matters … that’s what will nourish or kill your love for science 💚
Big announcement:
Tenure and Promotion unlocked 🔓✅
All thanks to this amazing team, those gone, all my amazing colleagues and collaborators and my amazing small family 🌿 The best is yet to come! So excited for the future 👏🏼

This is how I felt after doing my PhD in Mexico in a small university and not coming from a « famous » lab …
Ah but now we are the famous lab 😂 (from twitter) 😅
The inclusion of MDPI journals into the list of predatory journals has unleashed some nasty posts. I feel people is now using that as support to trash colleague’s work, to feel superior. I want to believe that we are better than that. Publish where you want but respect others 🙏🏻

After a lot of consideration our lab is breaking ties with MDPI journals. Frontiers too once I finish some editor commitments. Yes, other journals might take longer but is part of the learning process for trainees and guaranteed of better quality. 👏🏼
Reminder to students:
@MDPIOpenAccess
can not be considered a peer reviewed scientific journal.
I never read or cite their papers because research needs to be built on solid, peer reviewed, grounds.
Sure there are legit papers published there (we just can’t know which ones).
