20 years ago today, a tornado moved through Green Acres Campground on Pine Lake causing loss of life and destruction.
It was the 4th deadliest tornado ever recorded in Canada.

Starting Sunday, an

clipper will bring snow, winds, and colder temperatures. The heaviest snow will fall in central regions and the mountain parks. Some areas will also see strong winds by early Monday morning causing localized blowing snow.
There’s been a lot of rain in central AB ☔, and there’s more in the forecast for today.
How much rain so far? 24 hr rainfall totals from Sun, June 18 morning to Mon, June 19 below.
Of note, Hendrickson Creek received 94 mm, Carrot Creek 88.6 mm and Edson 87 mm.

It has been a record-breaking year for smoke hours across Alberta. A ‘smoke hour’ is considered when visibility reported in smoke is reduced to 9.7km (6SM) or less. Numbers have been calculated for areas with continuous, 24/7, human-made observations.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms in southeastern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan. Long duration, well organized thunderstorms are possible leading to the potential for large hail and an isolated tornado.

Roost rings don't only happen in summer! This evening, a prominent roost ring appeared on RADAR about 30 km SW of Medicine Hat, AB and later another appeared about 20 km SW of Maple Creek, SK. These rings indicate birds leaving their nests at the same time.

Here's the Doppler RADAR presentation of a rotating thunderstorm called a supercell earlier this evening near Fawcett. The blue denotes air moving toward the radar whereas red denotes air moving away from it. From this we can infer rotation.
