#OTD in 1987, the Edmonton F4 tornado occurred. To this day, this remains the strongest documented tornado to hit the province, leaving a path of destruction ~31 km long and up to 1300 m wide in some areas. It killed 27 people and injured 300, destroying more than 300 home. #ABwx

An NTP team investigated the damage at Uxbridge, ON after Saturday's devastating derecho. The preliminary result is that a long, narrow path of enhanced damage, up to EF2 in intensity, was identified - length 4.26 km, max width 260 m, max speed 195 km/h, time near 1:15 ET. 1/2

Given NTP has now published all 86 known tornadoes for 2023 in Canada, we can say a few things about the season. First, there were only 5 EF2+ tornadoes recorded, with Didsbury, AB rated at EF4 - only the second EF4 in the NTP era (2017-2023). No EF2+ in SK or southern ON.

The drone results are in! The damage at Sturgeon Point, ON, on Jun 23 was caused by an EF1 tornado (max wind 145 km/h) with length over land 5 km and max width 120 m. In addition to damaging a dock, the tornado ripped off half of a barn roof and tossed it ~100 m. #onstorm

A fast-moving line of storms overtook a smaller, slower moving line resulting in the development of an embedded supercell over Lake Huron. The supercell generated a multi-vortex tornado, plus several weaker 'satellite' tornadoes and downbursts, as it came onshore. #ONStorm 2/n

With yesterday's ultra-rare Nov supercell tornado in Vancouver, BC, NTP's tornadoes affecting land stretch from the Pacific to the Atlantic in 2021 - total of 72 (map). Adding 2021 tornadoes occurring entirely over water, count goes up to 90. Impressive for a quiet year N of 49N.

Final update today - the @westernuNTP survey team confirmed that a tornado caused EF1 damage at Gads Hill on Jul 19. Max wind 150 km/h, length 4.2 km, max width 400 m. Damage to a farm and trees. Tomorrow morning the team will investigate damage in the Thedford area. #onstorm

An NTP survey team began a damage survey in south Barrie last evening, working collaboratively with an ECCC team. The results to this point are included in this ECCC summary (below). The damage was assessed at EF2 (DI=FR12, DOD=7, max wind 210 km/h). Will be continuing today.

#OTD 28 years ago, an F4 tornado occurred near Birtle, MB. The 🌪️ travelled for 29km and injured 2 people. An entire house was lifted off its foundation and landed on its roof 250 ft away. Farm equipment was tossed about 300m. This remains the only 1 of 2 F4/EF4 🌪across #MBwx
