He was 8 year old when he was murdered: young enough to believe in the world; old enough to understand what was happening.
As hard as it is, follow
@AuschwitzMuseum

2 May 1935 | A French Jewish boy, Andre Benguigui, was born in Oran in Algieria.
He arrived at
#Auschwitz
on 25 June 1943 in a transport ot 1,018 Jews deported from Drancy. He was among 418 people murdered in a gas chamber after the selection.
When you read the .
@AuschwitzMuseum
, it's hard not to focus on the children.
But for every child, there were parents who spent every min of every day agonizing over how to protect that child.
And this happens today.
Which is why it is so important to follow .

21 February 1941 | French Jewish girl Pauline Pelcman was born in Paris. She arrived at

This reminds me of this photograph, taken at an airport, during the Muslim ban. It always gives me hope that we can all rise above the rhetoric and realize what truly matters.
(the story behind the photograph: )
This is unbelievable to watch.
Kudos to .
@SenatorMuth
for holding strong in the face of such aggression and giving a voice to the millions who don't have a voice and need us to stand up for them.
That ANYONE would scream over the voices of their constituents is unbelievable....
Heart pounding. Watch this male lawmaker scream over his female colleague for 3+ minutes while she tries to read a powerful letter written by a formerly homeless man begging them not to end public assistance. This *is* the GOP. Heartless. Angry. Abusive.
Friday gift:
6yo found her microphone set (which I managed to hide for most of the pandemic btw!).
She is downstairs yelling into it "He's here, he's there, he's everyfuckingwhere--Roy Kent!"
I have been informed I need to go talk to her.
I will...once I stop laughing so hard...

Look, if you don't believe they stormed the Airports of the War of 1812, or the Bowling Green Massacre of 2011, I strongly urge you to catch up on the daily briefings from Frederick Douglass!

1/ Every year, I give a talk that wipes me out-emotionally & mentally.
But it’s an impt talk to give: about the experience of women in medicine, academics, STEM.
It’s hard because it hits home; & because I answer any question & tell the truth.
Here are some facts; more in thread
@Aidan_Baron
In our endoscopy suite, before a procedure, when it is just staff & the patient, we ask the same questions.
If the patient answers yes, we abort the procedure on a "technical" reason to avoid sending them home sedated with a potential abuser.
These little things matter.

The Bucks County Pennsylvania House race currently has a TWO VOTE difference between the D and R candidates.
TWO votes. Not two thousand or two hundred. TWO votes.
It may determine the balance of power in the PA House.
Don't EVER think your vote doesn't count.
This should be the minimum goal.
Following .
@AuschwitzMuseum
may not be the easiest follow; but it one of the most worthwhile.
Because each of us should remember what humanity is capable of--the very best and the very worst.
750,000 goal reached.
Thank you ALL for this incredible support.
Following us should be THE FIRST step. Remember the past but also reflect on our moral responsibility for the world.
Think: "What can I do to make our world a better & safer place."
And start doing it. Now.
Praying for the students, teachers and first responders affected by the tragic shooting in Florida. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families.

Ummm...and journalists like yourself, who have constantly put yourself in harm's way to accurately document and report what is going on.
Thank you, reporters.
There seems to be a surge in anti-mask bad behavior. This baffles me.
So: this is a 5yo. On her 1st day of kindergarten. Who picked her dress to match her mask & wore her mask ALL DAY.
She did not scream, yell in anyone's face, flip anyone off, or use profanity.
Act like a 5yo.
Oh fresh lord, I had forgotten what a truly presidential speech sounds like--once that generously gives credit to others, reaches across all differences, and unifies everyone in hope and the greatness of what everyone can do together.
I have news: my promotion to Associate Professor was approved this wk.
I'll admit-I've had some mixed feelings: the road has been like that traveled by too many others who don't make it (see 2 🧵👇)
But I also want to celebrate this success & everyone who supported me-THANK YOU!
I am SO proud of my friend & sister

Approximately 1 year ago, I shared that my mother was applying for citizenship.
Before the holidays, she passed her exam.
Today, SHE BECAME A US CITIZEN!
She & my father have been doctors & professors in this country for nearly 50yrs.
I am SO proud! ❤
It has been hours since I was dressed like this; but my face still has red lines and sore indentations from the PPE.

My son is playing a semi-indoor soccer tourney.

I reminded him of need for safety w/pts, school, etc.

3/ This was an interesting study from HBR of 81K performance evaluations of men & women.
Look at the frequency of positive vs. negative reviews.
Now-look at how they were described.

My sincere condolences.
Three nights a week (on average), I have at least one post-dinner conference call.

8/ Women get called a lot of things in medicine, academics, science—but what’s the one thing we DON’T get called?
Doctor.
Even when we have multiple doctorate degrees.
(Trust me-I have the receipts.)
Went to the hospital at 6:30am; got home at 8:45pm.
Husband, pulling out dinner leftovers for me, asks "Do you want fries?"
Not wanting to dignify such a silly question with actual words, I looked him square in the eye, grabbed a handful of fries, & stuffed them in my mouth.
1. Even if COVID doesn't kill you, it can leave permanent damage.
2. The vaccine does not cause COVID or perm damage.
3. All 3 vaccines in US are effective against variants incl B.1.1.7.
4. Natural immunity wanes very quickly. The vaccine does not.
5. I'm a doctor & scientist.

I got lucky.❤️
7/ COVID made this worse.
I urge EVERYONE to read this brilliant open article co-signed by women in medicine and epidemiology at every level from across the world.
I wanted to cheer, but I was crying too hard-it hit home.
Your pre-holiday gift:
My 12yo takes an extra online math class (with 5+ extra hrs of homework-no joke).
Their assignment ahead of the holidays? "Make something you love out of equations."
He made his 8yo sister.

I am so confused: does this mean every legislator with a gun must abstain from voting on gun laws? Or politicians with children should abstain from voting on educational measures? Or Reps with beating hearts have a conflict with healthcare measures???
NEW: Nebraska state Sen. Megan Hunt (D) is under investigation for a possible conflict of interest because she has a transgender child and the state legislature is considering a bill to ban gender-affirming care for transgender youth.

@Drsforamerica
The NE governor is authorizing a state-wide "hospital bed shuffle;" but refuses to put in place mask mandates that would actually *prevent* the need for people to get hospitalized in the first place.
When will we learn: this is all *preventable.*
I’m a doctor at a Level I trauma center.
I'm an epidemiologist who sees FACTS.
& I am a mother of 2 elementary school kids.
This is an epidemic. The US is an outlier for *gun violence* (NOT mental illness or door-numbers).
We demand action.

Or, if you want to reduce hospital admissions, you could--and hear me out for a sec!--YOU COULD JUST TELL PEOPLE TO GET VACCINATED *RIGHT NOW* AND MANDATE MANDATORY MASK WEARING, BOTH OF WHICH ARE SIGNIFICANTLY CHEAPER AND ACTUALLY *PREVENT* COVID IN THE FIRST GODDAMN PLACE.
Gov. Ron DeSantis: "Early treatment with these monoclonal antibodies, Regeneron and others, have proven to radically reduce the chance that somebody ends up being hospitalized. And at the end of the day, reducing hospital admissions has got to be a top priority."

Yes: the current GOP presidential frontrunner is a vaccine-denier.

My 5yo disappeared & re-emerged from her room...dressed "like Mommy, a doctor!" because she wants to be a doctor when she grows up.
She insisted I get in my red scrubs & put in earrings too. 😂
I have to admit...the idea of her being a doctor makes me both proud & frightened.
To everyone to whom I owe an email, a draft, a budget, a draft letter, a manuscript review, a grant review, a phone call, etc...

Many moons ago, I went to college where no one knew a GD thing about NE.
