My sonโs school had a Heritage Fair today. Classrooms were packed with displays created by the students on a Canadian historical theme.
My son and his friend created this one. He said that only one or two people stopped to look. A couple of people โtsk-edโ or scoffed outright.

The Sun's editors clearly misjudged the public's reaction to a disgusting depiction of the Ukraine president.
Sun apologizes for cartoon
Some of the comments are revolting.
I have no doubt who their preferred PM would be.
Personally, Iโm very proud to see Canada standing shoulder to shoulder with our EU allies.
Two years ago, Putin thought he could make quick work of strategic targets in Ukraine โ like Hostomel Airport.
But weโre standing here today because he was wrong. Because the strength and resolve of Ukrainian defenders proved him wrong.
You know who else has been Newsmaker of the year?
Luka Magnotta (2012)
Russell Williams (2010)
The Convoy Protesters (2022)
Rob Ford (2013)
Stockwell Day (2001)
It isnโt a popularity contest.
I can't help but think how different a witness Poilievre would be. The PM is articulate, thoughtful, polite. He understands the big picture of global diplomacy. He understands the role of foreign reps and when the line is crossed between what is acceptable and what isn't.
Oh no! I just had a call from Service Canada. Apparently my Social Insurance Number has been canceled due to suspicious activity, but the nice lady was able to help me.
Seriously, does anyone really fall for those calls?
This is gross.
Our local Conservative Party riding association is posting partisan signs at our Cenotaphs.
Let's honour our veterans by keeping these monuments free of partisan activity. It's the least we can do.
When my dad was a you man, it was common at the time to live in a rooming house - you had your own bedroom and the use of the common areas of the house such as the living room. His landlady provided meals.
Maybe we need options like this as well to address the housing shortage.
Excellent work.

Going out on a limb here, but I predict that the CPC will not support the federal budget that will be tabled later today.
I also predict that their leader will use several alliterative and silly slogans when asked about his reaction to the measures contained therein.
There was a report on CBC News this morning about a Canadian who organised his own travel home to Canada for his family and himself. Said he didn't want to wait until he heard from the Embassy about an evacuation flight.
Doh.
That's what one is supposed to do.
The number of those who are blaming the government for this chain of events is quite amazing.
If India is innocent, then cooperate in the investigation.
India tells Canada to remove 41 of its 62 diplomats in the country, official says
The first thing I thought of when I read the BBC story: they didnโt understand Quebecois slang.
Every CPC MP who gleefully reposted the story only demonstrated their lack of understanding of one of Canadaโs official languages.
ยซCโest super plate, des foisยป: โboringโ is not the correct translation in this case. In this context, he means that itโs โnot easyโ or a tough period for him.
Trudeau has used similar language in previous French interviews and never has once hinted that he is bored at work.
They worked hard on this. Based upon the reception of some โadultsโ, Iโd say that the community still has a ways to go before the stigma is gone.
On the bright side, this would have not been possible when I went to school in the 70s.
I went to three different stores today in search of parsnips. There were none to be had. Canada seems to have a parsnip supply problem.
I donโt remember this being an issue before 2015. Damn Trudeau!
There will be a lot of gloating from certain quarters regarding Mr. Justice Mosleyโs decision, but this excerpt provides some important context.
GIC = Governor in Council, aka Cabinet.
But this opposition leader is so single-focused and personal in his comments, so unconstructive in his criticism, so scorched-earth in his approach to whatโs wrong, he is contributing to a breakdown in overall faith in the system. That is not healthy.
Pierre Poilievre speaks!
From an interview today with the Comox Valley Record.
These arenโt answers; they are slogans. And pretty awful ones.
โWeโre going to bring back a warrior cultureโ
My wife saw a Poilievre ad yesterday (the one with the puzzle) and noted that if you knew nothing about the man and his politics youโd be drawn into his message.
The challenge is to make sure everyone knows more about him. He is not what the ad portrays him to be.
I did my calculation of the carbon charge our family paid in the last 12 months.
Natural gas: $158.60
Gasoline: $120.00 (based on one tank a month, about 70 litres at a time)
Total: $278.60
Rebate (family of three): $652.00
Hallan call this a "phoney rebate"...
In crisis situations, information and speculation comes at you like a firehose.
You need to separate the two, and critically assess whether the source or reporter of the information is in a position to know.
Who did they hear it from?
Poilievre failed that exercise.
You could spend all day blocking accounts that have made ridiculous replies to this post.
Dozens of โthey wouldnโt speak to me in English when I was in Quebecโ or โwhatโs the problem, we give Quebec billions of dollarsโ or simply โfuck Quebecโ.
CPC, I present your supporters.
1. Take an issue which affects almost no one
2. Amplify the issue to make it seem like this is happening on a widespread basis
3. Tell everyone not to worry, youโll put an end to it.
Doesnโt matter that you donโt say how youโd do it, or even be able to say how much it happens.

My maternal grandmother - exact date unknown, but probably sometime between 1911 and 1917. She taught school in rural Manitoba and Saskatchewan before getting married in 1921.
She died in Winnipeg in 1999, at the age of 104.
Only five days until Manitoba votes - Iโm heartened to see that the PCs continue to poll behind the NDP and hope that itโs reflective of actual voter intention.
This is how my pollution pricing rebate appears in my bank account. The lack of detail might explain why many people claim that they don't get one.
I'm going to start blocking people who insist that they don't get a rebate yet live in a province where they do.
It was genuinely funny, Laureen. Itโs unfortunate that the Leader of the Opposition has such a thin skin that he is unable to laugh at himself.
His supporters seem to have pretty thin skins as well, yet seem to find genuinely offensive memes and innuendo to be hilarious.

Wow - the volume of comments trying to brush this off are quite something. Also lots of references to unrelated issues, such as fridges.
And some really think that a lobbyist can compartmentalize their loyalty to a client and confine it to โprovincial mattersโ.
PMJT did not attack small businesses as tax cheats, he only pointed out that there was abuse going on.
He didn't call hunters criminals. He didn't call all truckers fringe.
He didn't call parents hateful.
I'm seeing a lot more division from you and your caucus.
Fear and division are all you have, Justin.
You attack small businesses as tax cheats, hunters as criminals, truckers as fringe, and parents as hateful for protecting kids from your agenda. Fear & falsehoodsโdivide to distract.

Quick! The CPC will need some speaking points as to why those who have over $250,000 in capital gains in the course of a year shouldn't have to pay tax on two thirds of the gain rather than one half.
Won't someone think of the 0.13%?
Exactly what 'freedom' has anyone lost?
Taxes were only raised on the highest income earners (carbon pricing is not a tax - you can read the Supreme Court's opinion on that).
Every day I see the CPC doing the stoking and not providing any solutions.
Misery has exploded in Canada because an overbearing government impoverished our people, stoked fear and weakened our social fabric.
Trudeauโs ploy of presenting โsolutionsโ in exchange for higher taxes and less freedom has lost its veneer.

Gerry Ritz, former cabinet minister under Harper, agrees that Poilievre was never โhousing ministerโโฆ
And by implication also confirms that the CPC didnโt have housing in their sights during their time in power.
"Poilievre said that all of his proposals "are Charter-proof. They respect the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and we want laws that respect the rights of all Canadians""
Charter-proof like the mandatory minimums which were struck down?
The sense of entitlement is strong with these ones.

This is the part of the Canada Ukraine Free Trade Agreement that is apparently repugnant to the CPC.
A reminder that the agreement was negotiated over several years and was not imposed on Ukraine in any way.
Draw your own conclusions as to why the CPC rejects it.
Mr. Gerretsen very concisely states how repulsive this is. I know many people who grew up under such a regime and it is an insult to even suggest that the PM or his father are / were proponents of that ideology.
Say what you will about about our political leaders, but to refer to *any* Canadian Prime Minister as a Marxist not only shows a massive misunderstanding of the term but indeed is an insult to all those who have been subject to the political ideology.
