RRR (2022): Bombastic blockbuster bromance epicness. I just kept smiling. There’s no other reaction. It’s like a fireworks display that’s 80% grand finale but with tigers and friendship grasps and joyously animated spirits. Sign me up for the club, I love

Still thinking about the restaurant scene in THE INVISIBLE MAN and how it commits murder in public, pins guilt on the film's victim, takes gaslighting to the extreme, and destroys the concept of safes spaces in a matter of...maybe minutes?
#PREY
is, indeed, the best Predator entry since PREDATOR. All praise to Amber Midthunder who owns the screen against her alien foe. It’s back to the bloody basics of a thrilling hunt that delivers everything I want from a Predator flick in its brutally primal glory.
#EvilDeadRise
gives me everything I want as an EVIL DEAD fan and more. It’s as vicious as 2013, opens the door to future entries in endlessly exiting ways, and owns its place in the series. I’m still buzzing. A franchise that continues to do no wrong.
MONKEY MAN: Holy shit, I never thought I’d see an action sequence set to a Bloodywood song??? Dev Patel comes out swinging, stabbing, and pulverizing in his hard-hitting debut. Dev’s adoration of action cinema shines as clear influences meld with his fiery storytelling.

Netflix's

series is a winner, whether you're new to the franchise or a diehard counting every Easter Egg. Love love love Lance Reddick as Wesker. As a RESIDENT EVIL fan, I'm digging the adaptation's focus on Umbrella, viral mysteries, and yes, zombie action.
Guillermo del Toro's PINOCCHIO fights fascism, warms hearts, and celebrates life as a stellar adaptation. GDT embraces the darker elements of source material with open arms while stop-motion animation raises the bar. Plus Cate Blanchett voices a monkey! Good stuff.
I wrote a negative review of a Z*ck Sn*der film and my notifications have been a dumpster-fire of attacks all day. Randos rifling through past tweets, weaponizing hashtags, and calling others to arms.
But go ahead and keep telling me all the good this fandom has done.
Alright, so I'm very into the implications and universe-expansion of BATTLE AT BIG ROCK. Humans are decidedly no longer top of the food chain. "Coexistence" is synonymous with "survival." Dinosaurs crash campfire BBQs.
This is the

approach I've been waiting for.
So! AMC won't require partons to wear masks upon their reopen either. “We thought it might be counterproductive if we forced mask wearing on those people who believe strongly that it is not necessary."
I think you meant, "We value $$ over safety. Duh."
Two boys in raptor costumes tried to "scare" their grandmother at the airport when she deplaned.
Hilariously, grandma was seventeen steps ahead. My day is brightened.
What I like most about

is a bunch of stuff I’m sure as shit not spoiling on Twitter, so yeah!
#ScreamMovie
gets Wes, feels at home in the franchise, and guts Horror Twitter. If you feel comfortable and safe enough to see it in a theater, you’re in bloody good hands.
You know what else is PG-13? A QUIET PLACE. HAPPY DEATH DAY. SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK. LIGHTS OUT. INSIDIOUS. ESCAPE ROOM. THE FINAL GIRLS. To name a few.
A rating doesn’t dictate quality.
That’s up to storytellers, performers, and filmmakers.
I no longer want to hear what song will save you from Vecna — I only want to hear what song you'd shred as a distraction in the Upside Down.
I'll go first! "My Curse" by Killswitch Engage.

Experience this morning here in LA. A nostalgic stroll through an immersive NYC recreation, complete with a trophy room filled with props from the SCREAM franchise!
Caught some Easter Eggs, might have some theories on

THE MENU is a top-notch exploration of the all-consuming relationship between art, artist and consumer. Sharp satire, commentary with precise cuts, and tantalizing tension that brings the heat. Hell yeah, chef! One of my favorites this year.
CABIN IN THE WOODS after 10 years is still the same game-changer. Its post-SCREAM cleverness and kitchen-sink ambition are still largely unrivaled. Deserves to be in any conversation about modern horror masterpieces. A rare genre triumph that checks every box (and then some).
AIR: Chalk another win for Ben Affleck. The ensemble is great, top to bottom. Does well balancing the Nike of it all with MJ’s signing, finding a thematic core about the milestone in sports merchandising history.
#SXSW
It's the 10th anniversary of one of my favorite horror films, horror requels, horror reboots — whatever you call EVIL DEAD (2013). My favorite franchise entry by a slim margin (EVIL DEAD II close behind).
Relentless, blood-soaked, terrifying, goretastic horror perfection.
CIVIL WAR: I left the movie, ate tacos, had a drink, tried to decompress and still am not ready to start processing this one. I think it’s my favorite Alex Garland? But there’s so so so much to unpack. Beautifully shot, that much stays true.

I've got a new "Revenge Of The Remakes" on
@BDisgusting
, and I'm finally tackling EVIL DEAD (2013).
Fair warning. I view EVIL DEAD as one of the best horror remakes of any decade, and may include lines like "favorite of the franchise." It's pretty spicy.
Alexandre Aja appreciation tweet! Not only is he responsible for two of the best aquatic horror films of the 2000s, but two of the best horror remakes of the 2000s, and countless more nightmares. If they rebooted “Masters of Horror” with contemporary names, Aja’s on that list.
#TheFallGuy
is such a fun-filled love letter to stunt professionals that delivers rockin’ action sequences. Gosling blends his DRVIE and THE NICE GUYS roles into a winning stuntman character, and Blunt is, as always, a delight on screen. Top notch popcorn entertainment!
#SXSW
Y2K: Finally a horror movie that appreciates Limp Bizkit as much as the band deserves! Kyle Mooney turns late 90s nostalgia into huge laughs and rarely lets up in this goofy-violent crowd pleaser. It’s a blast, start to finish.

Shout out to streamers like Shudder that release physical copies of their originals, five of which I might have impulse purchased last night because I could.
So
#Underwater
: I dig it. Wastes no time getting to the aqua-horror, and while familiar (yes, ALIEN underwater), killer production design lends itself to a creature feature soaked in pressurized tension. Admittedly, 100% my brand of horror.
Full review coming tomorrow!
THE TOXIC AVENGER: It’s as much Troma as you can fit into a “mainstream” Troma remake. Super gory, super off-color, and super silly throughout. You’re gonna love or hate this one, and you’ll know pretty damn fast!

.
A sequel that plays all the hits for fans, levels-up with the addition of Tails / Knuckles, and speaks eloquently of childhood experiences through Sonic’s adrenaline-junkie antics.
Just watched DEMON KNIGHT (1995) for the first time — yeah, I know, how didn't I already, yadda yadda — and probably surprising no one, I loved it. Just gimmie demons, goop and gore!
Since DRAG ME TO HELL (streamable on Hulu) is trending, a reminder that the harvest cake sequence is delicious food-based horror. So despicably wacky, so grossly comedic, so Raimi — like the whole movie!
Bruce Campbell smashing plates on his head, hurling himself onto the floor, and all-out brawling with his own hand in EVIL DEAD II is up there at the pinnacle of physical comedy performances.
We all know this, I just wanted to say it again.
Did a rewatch of both FRIGHT NIGHT movies today and there’s no argument, 2011’s FRIGHT NIGHT is the superior in my book.
I like both! 2011’s just gets to it way quicker and is a grim feast.
FRESH (2022): Really enjoyed this one! Sebastian Stan needs to play more maniacs — such a delicious and delirious performance. Daisy Edgar-Jones shines too, counteracting Stan's moves with fury and grace. Cannibalism shouldn't be this charming (until a properly outraged finale).
Still thinking about yesterday when SXSW showed a promotional video package that was basically pro-A.I. propaganda in front of each movie, to theaters filled with filmmakers, entertainment journalists, and film lovers.
It was booed loudly each time. Talk about tone deaf lol.
#RoseTicoDeservedBetter
because, yes, Rose Tico deserved better. Honestly, Kelly Marie Tran deserved better. After all the online abuse and harassment, Tran's TROS erasure is a disheartening stance that does nothing to acknowledge or fight against toxic fandom realities.
Lulu Wang’s THE FAREWELL will forever remain one of 2019’s most prolific cinematic experiences. A superb ode to mortality that means so much to so many.
I wanted to share just one of those stories, my story about how THE FAREWELL helped me find peace.
Now Watching: NEAR DARK (1987).

to take care of another blind spot. Vampires were never my favorite subgenre - have some homework to do still.
Plenty of M. Night Shyamalan takes on the timeline this past week, but still not seeing enough love for THE VISIT. It’s more than a comeback — Shyamalan orchestrates a damn fine found-footage nightmare. “Best since SIGNS” would be “Best since THE VISIT” for me.
Welp,

1994 rules as hard as y'all say it does. Its cinematic DNA might reflect everything from SCREAM to IT FOLLOWS, but staying indebted to R. L. Stine's imagination leaves that fresh new-flick smell. Oh, and *that* kill? Unchallenged best of the year so far. 🍞🔪
