I couldn’t help but watch SKINAMARINK and be reminded of what it was like in my house when my parents divorced. This was tough to write, but I’m glad I did. Thank you so much to
@mbmcandrews
for giving me the opportunity
Hope the “Hollywood is out of ideas and there’s nothing original anymore” crowd is out supporting unique cinema this weekend.
If we don’t support them, it’ll be harder for them to get made, simple as that!
Since the dumb media illiterate takes on Starship Troopers are out in full force again, taking this opportunity to just say I love the hell out of this banger of a movie
I swear whenever Jesse Plemmons enters a film the whole thing just freezes and becomes mesmerized with his performance. His moment in Civil War is one of the most chilling and unforgettable of the year
If you press play on LAKE PLACID at 11:07:38, at exactly midnight, Betty White will say “if I had a dick this is where I’d tell you to suck it,” which feels like a great way to say goodbye to 2021
You all, I’m really excited for
#TheGrudge
tonight and remembering that time Sadako threw a pitch to Kayako during a Japanese baseball game...
I wish America did more stuff like this with its horror villains.
Really sucks to see Lisa Frankenstein not doing well. A fun, stylish, fresh take on Frankenstein made for all of us weirdos. Jennifer’s Body all over again. Hopefully it eventually finds the following it deserves
Seeing a lot of tweets with people saying they saw
#ReadyOrNot
in an empty theater. Horror fam, this film is a total blast, so if you have any interest at all in seeing it, please check out this original flick this weekend.
If we don’t see these movies, studios won’t make them
Reminder that THE EMPTY MAN is leaving HBO Max in a few days. One of the best horror films of the last few years that’s still way too under-seen. Make a creepy night out of it and watch it while you can
If Stopmotion is playing near you, go see it. One hell of a debut feature from Robert Morgan that’s as beautifully crafted as it is grotesque and disturbing. Also makes a great case for bringing more stop motion back to horror. Loved it
Watched The Strangers again and “because you were home” will never not make my blood run cold. Gut punch of a film that hasn’t lost a bit of its power over the last decade+
Carla Gugino has always been great, but her performance in The Fall of the House of Usher is one of her best yet. Enthralling presence who captivates the screen in every scene through a role that showcases her wide range. Incredible actress
Clive Barker created two of the most elegant horror icons ever. Part of the appeal to both Pinhead and Candyman is that they’re terrifying, but there’s an attractive eloquence to them that is irresistible.
Arguably the best dressed, too
Really impressed with Alisha Weir, who holds her own up against an excellent cast in Abigail. Commands the screen with a giddy & sadistic performance that often had me cheering for her ballerina vampire. Fantastic actress that I hope continues to play in horror
DRAG ME TO HELL deserves all of the praise it can get. It’s a prime example of what makes Sam Raimi such a unique director. Funny, bloody and downright frightening, with an energy that practically screams at the viewer.
One of Raimi’s best
What the Longlegs campaign gets that most don’t is that audiences neither need nor want to have the whole film spoon-fed to them by marketing. Be mysterious. Tease us. Make us wonder what it is. THAT’S what gets people interested and keeps us talking
Do NOT miss COBWEB in theaters this weekend. Not only is it terrifying, but it’s sort of like this year’s Barbarian in that it just gets wilder and wilder. An early Halloween treat.
Abigail features two of horror’s current best in Melissa Barrera and Kathryn Newton, just one of many reasons to go see it. Will never get tired of these two slicing and dicing their way through the genre as they soak the screen red
Cannot stress enough how much I love the fact that we got two unflinching bangers like these in the same year, and just weeks apart, no less. Makes for one hell of a double feature
Zendaya’s command of the camera and her ability to speak volumes with just a look throughout Dune: Part Two is truly astonishing. Magnificent performance
I Saw the TV Glow is a hypnotic masterpiece. A haunting critique on how childhood nostalgia can at once be an escape and a prison, while also exploring the pain of feeling that you are someone else inside, yearning to be free. We’re lucky to have voices like Jane Schoenbrun
The Alien: Romulus trailer is further confirmation that Fede Alvarez was the perfect choice to direct. A filmmaker that excels at delivering intense, atmospheric horror and isn’t afraid to get grisly with the gore. No doubt in my mind it’s going to be absolutely terrifying
Once again wishing I could visit the alternate universe where HALLOWEEN III was a huge success and the franchise continued as an anthology of different stories set on Halloween the way Carpenter and Hill intended
Always fascinated by how the OG Saw is remembered for being gorier than it actually is. Like Hooper with Texas Chain Saw, Wan often implies the gore and makes you think it’s worse than what you see. Bloody, sure, but nothing like the gore-soaked sequels that followed
Ghostwatch is now on
@Shudder
and if you’ve never seen this gem, it’s a must. Terrifying film. Can only imagine how frightening it must’ve been to watch live thinking it was real. Incredibly influential on the horror genre for a reason
Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man. Fede Alvarez’s Alien movie. Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu. Ti West’s Maxxxine. Jordan Peele’s new film. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
2024 is going to be incredible for horror.
The EVIL DEAD remake puts an interesting spin on the OG, is full of cheer-worthy effects and has a wild energy that never lets go. One of the best horror remakes.
Happy anniversary to this fantastic flick!
Some people are making fun of the Dracula on a boat thing and I’m over here thinking how much I love that they built the biggest ship to ever set foot in the tank in Malta for DEMETER. Incredible set that adds so much character and spatial tension to the film
Thanksgiving. Hobo with a Shotgun. Machete. All now have a movie. We NEED to get Edgar Wright’s Don’t and Rob Zombie’s Werewolf Women of the SS to compete the quintology of Grindhouse trailer films
Great seeing Rocky Horror trending because of how phenomenal Tim Curry is in THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. Was his first feature film role and he dominates the screen in every scene.
Legendary performance from a legendary actor 🙌
THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake is a top-tier horror remake. Grim. Gruesome. Gross. It’s a brutal flick that nails it’s own brand of insane intensity.
Leatherface is terrifying and R. Lee Ermey chews up the scenery every chance he gets.
No, it’s not okay to have your phone out in theaters & yes, it’s someone’s business when you’re disrupting their experience by shining a bright light in their face. This isn’t hard. If you can’t be a decent human for 2 hours, stay home. Simple as that
The Final Conflict/Omen III has its problems, but one thing it gets very right is in the casting of Sam Neill as the Anti-Christ. The man just oozes a calculated maliciousness in every scene. Hasn’t played many horror villains, but always nails it when he does
