Sorry but this isn't a great trend - if this continues great people who are not yet "as" accomplished (likely due to an interaction with socioeconomic advantages) will simply be discarded from competitive programs. Also there should be no such thing as a "pre-doc".

Students “grade grub” because of all kinds of toxic social forces and requirements. It’s a symptom of the badness. I really only feel sadness about it in that, when such occurs for me, I realize a pedagogy that is intended to avoid such things can’t fully combat the toxicity.

People who say we have hard jobs... don't realize the massive benefits that come with them. My dad was a truck driver and mechanic, my mom a first responder... They could rarely just fuck off for the day. I just advised a student on their dissertation, sitting here like this.

Can someone point to me the exact moment in time where people by in large started to believe that those with student loan debt are the "rich people?" I'm serious - the amount of times I have to correct this shit on the daily is just maddening.

Keeps just making the case for cancellation for those with advanced degrees. Also wait for the next "the pause isn't right or fair because people with advanced degrees are the 'most' benefited tweet.

Yea I'm dreading the call I have to make because it's just gonna waste my day trying to get a hold of them. That's why @POTUS should extend TEPSLF - MOHELA is either intentionally or unintentionally incapable of handing this right now.

Longer than an 8 hour shift on hold with @MOHELA to verify they received PSLF paperwork The stakes are too high if they fuck this up. The paperwork was sent Sept 15. Every past call we’ve made MOHELA says they show no record of receiving it in their system

Honestly... Don't be a professor if you're gonna be like this. This is obviously bad decision-making and just makes us all look like assholes.

Hearing that some UM profs are requiring students to get stamps from funeral directors in order to get an excused absence for attending the memorial services of their friends who were murdered at MSU this week. Others won’t offer extensions on papers/tests. This is…alarming.

Well, we left the house and there was a lot of nasty damage. Some buildings are just gone, trees all over down - they're still searching for people or rescuing them from buildings. We got pretty damn lucky

Well... peeps facing the most uncertainty in PSLF (waiting on forgiveness decision) also are the most distressed - and have the high rates of suicidal ideation. What's gonna happen when people cant access call centers + remain uncertain about repayment generally?

With the return of student loan payments looming, call centers at 2 major servicers will be closed on Saturdays. That's just 1 of many factors that have advocates worried that if payments resume as scheduled later this year "we are headed into a disaster."

I want to personally thank the Paul E. Patton Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center for taking good care of my grandpa during this time. I know he's owed it for his service but the facility seems nice and the staff have all been caring people - whom he seems to like.

If you're gonna say college ain't for everyone, more apprenticeships needed - you best be willing to have your kids in them too. If not, "who" do you mean not "everyone." (1)

Please, stop saying Biden canceled debt today. It allows some to grab onto a toxic narrative, and twist the policy. They've credited peep for past payments that should have counted for IDR but did not. That's different than the common understanding of canceling.

Misleading headline but a good move. They've credited people for the payment they made but for one reason or another didn't count towards their #IDR payments - but should have. The GAO had a recent report on this and making it right for IDR borrowers.

Oh wow... This was my great grandmother's house in Whitesburg, KY - the KY River is just behind the house (it was always shallow). I feel for the current owners but this is nuts. I spent my summers here as a child. I just can't imagine.

Since moving to TN - I've not found a good social life. Peeps who would be my friends here generally aren't down there because "doctor." I don't really fit in well with academics in many spaces. It's good to be back home with peeps and enjoying life a bit.

At WMU, an administrator - who recently left (not the Provost) - tell me what I could and could not say on social media about my research. I partly complied - this person low-key threatened to start ruining community relationships I was starting to build - and I was a post-doc.

For the people saying that PPP loans were intended to be forgiven... so are student loans, see for example: Public Service Loan Forgiveness REPAYE PAY Income Driven Repayment You know the programs that the administration is actually canceling loans through.

If you take out a loan, you pay it back. There’s no such thing as “canceling” student loan debt.
