I'm still in utter disbelief that this happened
A 4th-and-12, 4th-and-20, and a 2-point conversion to gift the Bears the top pick
Retire Davis Mills jersey at Halas Hall
Pretty comical that Lovie Smith and Mitch Trubisky may have helped gift the Bears the No. 1 overall pick (or at least a top-2 pick) in consecutive seasons.
Steve Young on Justin Fields:
"You build off of that, trust me. I've been under siege before. You build off it, & you can start to get yourself above water & start to breathe. The only way you can do that is play. You put him back on the bench & sit, you can't stay up to speed."
Peter Schrager on Justin Fields:
"I spoke with sources in Chicago all week, and he got better from Wednesday, to Thursday, to Friday. And two of the key reasons were because Nick Foles and Andy Dalton were both in every single meeting coaching him up."

It completely blows my mind that followers of the Chicago Bears, of all franchises, would argue against doing whatever is within the rules to acquire a top-5 QB if available. I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone sometimes.
Jay Glazer on

and Justin Fields:
"What I'm told by players and coaches in that locker room is every week Justin Fields does something that makes them go, 'Wow, we gotta kinda speed this process up.'"
"I have not yet talked to any team 1) willing to make that happen, or 2) that believes they can. It surely seems that the Bears are heading in the direction of taking Caleb Williams at No. 1." - Ian Rapoport on the idea of the Bears trading out of No. 1
NFL Network's Cynthia Frelund just said that out of all the NFL team's she polled about the QB class, Justin Fields came in as QB1 for half of them. Take that FWIW.

We don’t talk enough about one of the most important drives in Bears history and the impact it’s had on the NFL landscape. Heck, it even worked out great for the Texans.

Specifically, Ian Rapoport said, "I would be surprised as of right now if Matt Eberflus was not back for the Chicago Bears. They've looked much better... They certainly seem to be headed in the right direction... I hear nothing but positive vibes from Chicago."
Bills GM Brandon Beane on the Bears and Caleb Williams: "The [NFL wants] the suspense, but I think this one's.. it's like when the Colts took Andrew Luck. Everybody knew that."
The Bears and Vikings are even at three apiece, and it sure feels like the Bears should have a solid lead heading into halftime. Too many missed opportunities and miscues thus far.

Jay Glazer on the Bears being undecided on committing to Justin Fields as the long-term QB.
Adds that there will be "a lot more designed runs for him, [the Bears are] going to have a lot more plays where he's rolling out" this week.
Greg Olsen correctly pointing out how dumb that play-call was. You need two scores. At least put yourself in position for the FG or a shorter 4th down.
With 3 touchdowns through 3 games with the Bears, Jimmy Graham has matched his highest season total with the Packers.
He had 5 touchdowns total over 32 games with Green Bay.
I'm re-reading that Matt Miller article on Caleb Williams in October and it's just wild. It was published the day before the Notre Dame game. But I'm skeptical that NFL front office evaluators have had their thoughts on this change too much in 3 months.
It's the greatest gift in franchise history and to have a rare QB talent for an organization that has lacked quality play for nearly its entire existence.
There should be far more excitement about this. Like, most since the 2006 season stuff. It's really weird.
Justin. Fields.
HCs/GMs drool for this kind of QB upside. And they’re confident people that believe they can help the player realize that talent, potentially build a legacy with him.
Plus a major market and historic franchise.
It’s highly appealing, even with the 🤡 show.
Calls and texts flowing in tonight about Bears jobs confirm what we presented last month: both these openings, despite some of the big questions about the organization, are considered primo. Candidate interest is very high.
Tom Pelissero, Ian Rapoport, and Mike Garafolo -- on NFL Network -- all talking like it's likely the Bears stay at 1. That it would probably take "many firsts" (- Rap) etc for Poles to even consider moving off it.
50% of Bears fans wouldn’t give up a middle linebacker as part of a trade for a superstar quarterback. Seriously, have we learned nothing in the last 35 years?
The true talent of this roster is definitely not terrible any longer.
Everything eye test and data wise makes it very obvious: this coaching staff cannot be in place 2 months from now.
I'm very glad Justin Fields was traded into the AFC as well.
Can full-on root hard for him and not worry about any potential impact it has on the Bears.
Justin Fields missed a few gimmes (and he showed his frustration with it, acknowledging the issues), but still had 14/21, 152 YDS, 2 TD, 0 INT, and a 119.2 passer rating, plus 15 carries for 95 yards.
Vs a great defense, and throwing to No. 5/off-the-street WRs with a bad OL.
The Keenan Allen trade was a pretty big tell on the Bears' QB plans.
Not a great match for Fields' strengths/weaknesses and the exact kind of WR you want for a rookie QB.
This is why Deshaun Watson, from the beginning, welcomed a police investigation: He felt he knew that the truth would come out. And today, a grand jury did not charge him on any of the criminal complaints.
With Justin Fields, I think sometimes you need to just throw away the numbers (and I'm a huge numbers and analytics person) and go by what the eyes tell you.
He frequently looks like the best player on the field. For much of the last 3 games especially.
Chase Claypool brings a field-stretching element to the Bears offense, having run the 5th-most go routes (380) since entering the NFL in 2020.
Justin Fields has targeted go routes on 11% of his attempts in his career, the 8th-highest rate since 2021.

In a span of 2 drives, Mitch Trubisky showed why he's been arguably the worst starting QB in the NFL this season and also the 2nd overall pick in the NFL Draft.
"For where we sit right now, I'll be honest with you- it's exceeded my wildest dreams in terms of really getting this roster into championship form." - Bears GM Ryan Poles on
@ESPN1000
Ian Rapoport said it would take an "ungodly" amount of draft capital for the Bears to consider trading the No. 1 pick.
On a potential Justin Fields trade, Rapoport said, "I think the Bears could get a premium, premium pick. A second-rounder, at least, maybe more."

There's not a realistic package possible that could make me entertained whatsoever- if I'm someone that values Caleb Williams even half as much as most evaluators do. Draft Caleb Williams. Don't overthink this and let anybody bully you into doing otherwise.
Let the speculation begin: Kliff Kingsbury coached Caleb Williams last season. Williams was a standout QB at Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C. The Commanders currently hold the No. 2 overall pick and are in striking distance of the No. 1 pick that belongs to Chicago.
Remember when Cole Kmet had consecutive good plays and then never saw the ball again?
Like, if nothing else, try to see what you have in the player and give him valuable development. Especially when the alternatives are showing a whole lot of nothing.
Poles made the right decision on this one. No guarantee you get the same value in the double-trade down, and D.J. Moore especially makes it an easy call for this particular team situation.
Well this will certainly get talked about tomorrow.
Ryan Poles thought there was a scenario in which he could trade back to 2 and then to 9. But that would have meant waiting, and once the Panthers offered DJ Moore, he pulled the trigger. 👇
Those were playcalls of being afraid of turning the ball over at that part of the field.
But playing not to lose is unlikely to get it done vs the Niners. Gotta take some chances.
1. I care more about the draft positioning than the team's win-loss record the rest of the way.
2. I'd be quite fine with the Bears beating Aaron Rodgers and the Packers because of finally having a quarterback.
