I haven't watched LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER yet because rural internet and I need to save my data, but all the people I like like it and all the people I don't like think Neil Gaiman wrote it, so I'll probably like it.
Tom Sturridge as
#Sandman
brings something to the screen we don't see often enough. Restraint. Subtlety. And a knife's edge elegance. Others would have made it bombastic and missed the quiet grace, menace, and brittle fragility.

One of the things that is really hard for people trying to get into comics to understand is you don't just get to draw what you want to draw. You have to draw what the story requires. Things you don't like. Things you're not good at.
Respectfully, more than a decade ago when I was doing hard core time as a creator rights advocate, I warned & warned & warned people that tech looks at the arts as content they should have free access to to monetize, and not as a human accomplishment or experience.
I love you forever George Perez. My dear friend. My mentor. My inspiration. I wanted to be like you when I grew up. But I still have a lot of growing up to do to fit in your shining armor. My Knight. My King. My adored friend.

This is a computer colored version of a pencil SANDMAN and DEATH drawing that I did in pencil, then combined in Photoshop with colored, tinted paper, going for a vintage look.
A little piece of Heaven. GOOD OMENS THE GRAPHIC NOVEL. Now on Kickstarter. OFFICIAL. From the Terry Pratchett Estate
@terryandrob
and
@neilhimself
. Adapted by me. Letters by Lois Buhalis.
I don't know why Superman is trending, but since everyone loves Superman, here's a drawing I did awhile back. If you don't love Superman, well, get right with the universe, and learn to love The Man of Steel.
Finished. I can return to Good Omens now. Thanks for your kind patience & indulgence, especially the Terry Pratchett Estate, Neil Gaiman, all the kind folks at Dunmanifestin, and the great fans who are patiently waiting. But thanks most of all to my incredible medical care team.
I actually got weepy when I read that
#Sandman
was renewed. Season 1 was such a beautiful adaptation, the casting is superb,
@neilhimself
deserves all the joy, and my small contribution to Sandman notwithstanding I'm so happy to see this great story enjoyed by new fans.
What a bonkers headline. I'm not competing with David Tennant and Michael Sheen because I'm not adapting the show, I'm adapting the book. And I'm avoiding influences from the show.
The happiest of birthdays to my collaborator, my manly muse, scintillating Scorpio to my bedraggled Leo, my dear friend Neil Gaiman
@neilhimself
. Here we are. Around 1992. I think.
What is happening with Twitter is ultimate proof of the warnings of artists: there is NO value to ANYTHING these tech dudes do here that they didn't skim off the people who willingly create here. WE are the value here. Our CONTENT and participation is the ONLY asset.
Cannot even begin to describe my feelings about the success of the Good Omens graphic novel Kickstarter. I want to do my very best on this beautiful book and be worthy of the confidence
@neilhimself
@terryandrob
and all of you have shown in the work.
I mentioned on the
@guardianlive
event with
@neilhimself
that bears sometimes show up at my studio window to take a peek and here is what that looks like.
You know, when Neil Gaiman quipped that the casting in
#Sandman
was "purely to upset you", that was dry British humor, and if you didn't get that, we know you never really read Neil's work in the first place.
I know I've posted this before, but who couldn't use a bright, happy sunshine to moonlight Wonder Woman in their timeline? This is colored inks and watercolor on clayboard.
In 2023, I went blind and got my sight back. In 2023, I was diagnosed with cancer and finished treatment. In 2023, two of my best friends died, and I drew closer to new friends. There's always hope. I wish you peace and light and love. Happy New Year.

Was so happy to introduce some of you to J.C.Leyendecker, one of Normal Rockwell's seminal influences and the father of modern illustration design. Unlike Rockwell, however, Leyendecker had a handle on GLAMOUR, especially male glamour.
ICYMI My variant cover for Detective Comics 1066, watercolor, based on Herbert Draper's painting The lament for Icarus. 1066 is also the start of the Norman Conquest, which is your history tidbit for the day. British Isles got invaded a lot.
"Excuses" like, "we were staying faithful to the comics, as she doesn't have the swirl under her eye until Season of Mists". (And she says all the same lines she says in the comics, too. Sorry, that you think those lines are boring... but not sure how that makes me a hypocrite.)
Death. From Sandman. Private commission. Watercolor. Silver ink (not real silver, I think it's nickle). Yeah, I know I post some of these more than once, but not everyone has seen them. Take care. I know it's an especially rough day and rough time for some.
From Neil Gaiman's fan page on Facebook, why the Good Omens graphic novel went to Kickstarter to be produced by Dunmanifestin, the publishing arm of the Terry Pratchett Estate. 13 days left...
Someone accused me of "stealing" a photographer's work, but this is the only horse drawing I closely referenced, it is based on Jacques Louis-David's "Napoleon Crossing the Alps", it's public domain, I've cited it repeatedly, and the internet makes me tired.

If you're the kind of person who whines about oldsters in the industry taking up space, you're the person who would have put Jack Kirby out to pasture, called him Jack the Hack, and years later, you'd be lamenting how badly he was treated and how "comics will break your heart".
