The genius of Lennon & McCartney: By coming up with the title ‘Yesterday’ John Lennon suddenly transformed the theme of the song. That one word meant the lyrics *had* to become about reflection. Paul did the rest but John’s input was key. (From 20/3/67)

Aside from being a true trailblazer Annie Nightingale was always a comfort. As others of my old fart vintage will attest, her Sunday evening radio show was loved so much. For anyone who left homework until the last minute, as a soothing backdrop to the frantic panic, was Annie.
