I was blessed for 7 years without losing a battle buddy. Yesterday that streak ended when my buddy, a company commander, a hall of fame wrestler, an avid anime fan, and one of my oldest Army friends, took his own life. And the world is a little dimmer without him.

Before anyone starts claiming CID fucked up this case, a buddy of mine had a Soldier killed recently and CID processed the crime scene, interviewed the entire company, found witnesses, conducted hours of questioning, and found the killer within 24 hrs. Ft Hood’s culture failed.

SF is not SOF, and bloated redundant HQs and staff full of standard military specialties come at the cost of manpower within conventional units. The Army is hurting on manpower and if the next war is expected to be conventional, it needs its conventional forces to be prepared.1/

Almost all my peers are BRS. Nearly all of them are one “my spouse and/or kids are absolutely miserable” conversation away from leaving the force. 50 years ago the military made hard choices to get an All Volunteer Force. It’s time to do it again to retain our AVF.

I got fitted for a custom suit today and the guy added an extra 3/4” to the arms “not to flatter you, your arms are just big” and if you don’t mind, I’ll be living off that high for the next 6 months.
