They’re “fleeing” France, which is safe, civilised & has a good asylum system. Last year the UK made 20,000 asylum grants. We are the only G7 country to meet the 0.7% aid target & have run the largest refugee resettlement scheme in Europe over the last 5 years. Stick to ice cream
Hey
@PritiPatel
we think the real crisis is our lack of humanity for people fleeing war, climate change and torture. We pulled together a thread for you..
As Immigration Minister in Dec 2020 I tried to deport this dangerous criminal. But Labour MPs and various celebrities (including Naomi Campbell, Thandiwe Newton, Naomie Harris and David Olusoga) opposed the flight and most criminals were taken off
In the early hours of this morning 13 serious foreign criminals were deported from the UK. It is disappointing that immigration law firms continued to use last minute tactics to remove a significant number of offenders from this flight.
.
@jk_rowling
is absolutely correct. Women’s rights and safety are being jeopardised by the idea that a man can just declare themselves to be a women and be treated as such. We should be respectful of people’s choices, but not to the point of jeopardising others’ rights
Vulnerable and traumatised women pay the highest price for luxury beliefs. These are the real world consequences of redefining woman to include the penised.
“We feel like we are part of some sick joke. This is a nightmare that we can’t wake up from.”
Another flight left this morning with 14 people on board who had crossed the channel illegally, returning them to european countries where they had previously claimed asylum. This was despite last minute vexatious legal claims designed to frustrate the process. More work to do.
We looked into the interviewees on
#Panorama
last night. Every single one of them was a pro-Labour activist before the pandemic. Every single one. It was a party political broadcast on behalf of the Labour Party.
Last night, the Govt agreed a £120m bailout for Croydon Council - the largest in history. Labour’s shameful incompetence bankrupted the Borough, and despite this record bailout will still lead to frontline service cuts. The reasons Labour bankrupted Croydon include (thread):
During my time at the Home Office we repeatedly suggested these ideas to France over the last year or so, and they rejected them each time. It is reasonable for the PM to try making the offer publicly this time since making the offer privately didn’t work so many times
Having worked closely with
@pritipatel
at the Home Office she is totally dedicated to our national interests & keeping the country safe. Her energy, work ethic, passion, dedication, clarity of vision & iron will are all a huge asset to our country. We are lucky to have her
Another shocker from Sir Keir. A thug whose deportation Sir Keir opposed went on to beat up an emergency worker. When will Sir Keir start prioritising the safety of UK citizens over foreign criminals?
I hope everyone in this video remembers the promises they made. No matter how you voted in 2016 (I voted remain), this week is about stopping the prevarication and excuses and delivering the result of the referendum in which 33 million people voted
This is what EU Customs Union border can look like - Flughafenstrasse in Basel on Swiss (not in CU) French (in CU) border. There is a little sign and a small camera of the kind seen on every high street. There are technical solutions to ensuring no hard border NI/RoI
Today we removed people who came by small boat but had previously claimed asylum in other EU countries back to those EU countries. These crossings are dangerous, unnecessary and futile - we will seek to return people who make them. Yesterday and today, no-one made the crossing
I don’t recall these objections when the Benn Act - with huge constitutional and geopolitical implications - went through the Commons in about 2 hours. Bit selective
Be afraid, very afraid.
Your govt government wants the impossibly complex legislation on everything from trade, regulation, security and Northern Ireland customs to pass all Commons stages in a day and a half.
Wild Animals and Circuses Act was a tiny bill and took twice as long
Minimum wage just gone up 4.4% to £7.83 an hour. So min wage up 32% from £5.93 since 2010 and up 37% after tax (given income tax threshold increase). Inflation in this period 19%. So someone on min wage has had net pay increase at nearly double inflation with a Conservative Govt
Croydon Council has just issued a s114 notice - i.e. they are bust. They are the only London Borough in this position. Labour has bankrupt Croydon through poor financial control, running up £1.5 billion in debt and engaging in disastrous commercial property speculation
I have voted for
@BorisJohnson
in the final round today, and will do so again as a party member in July if he gets through. I believe decisive and bold leadership is needed to navigate us through these times
In all the noise, it’s instructive to look at how Sir Keir and Labour have actually voted in Parliament. It’s at 180 degree variance with what they’re (currently) saying:
The opposition in Parliament will reach for literally any excuse to frustrate implementing the Referendum reault. They’re now saying 3 full days is not enough time to consider the WAB. That’s the same people who passed the Benn Bill in 2 hours. Just staggering.
@jk_rowling
is absolutely right about this.

After careful thought, I’ve decided to back
@trussliz
for Leader and PM. I think she has the right mix of experience and vision for a dynamic, high growth economy - with a turbo-charged tech sector at its heart. I will be voting for her later today (and I hope subsequently!)
Astonishing that after claiming no Ireland - Northern Ireland border was so important for years during the Brexit negotiations the EU has created one as soon as it suits them ... barely a month after the end of Transition
I’m proud to have served as the Bill Minister taking this emergency law through the Commons in one day. It went through the Lords earlier this week & got Royal Assent today. No terrorist offenders can now ever be released early automatically again. This will protect the public
📢 AUTOMATIC EARLY RELEASE FOR TERRORISTS HAS ENDED 📢
⚖️ Our emergency legislation has received royal assent and is now law.
❌ Blocking about 50 terrorist offenders from being released halfway through their sentences.
Last week we returned 23 dangerous foreign criminals who violated our laws to their home countries. More flights are planned in the coming days and weeks.
Just computed someone working 40 hrs a week on Min Wage has annual wage up from £11,200 in 2010 to £17,100 next April. That's +38%. But *post tax* income up 44% due to personal allowance increases. Inflation over this period c. 25%. Those on lowest wages see big real increase
Not impressed that Sadiq Khan is handing our 54,000 free travel cards to “friends and family” of TfL staff while imposing a cripplingly expensive ULEZ, hiking his element of tax massively and increasing fares
After a lot of thought I’ve decided to support and nominate Rishi as the next PM. I think he will serve our country’s national interest very well in the months and years ahead, through globally turbulent times. I hope the party unites around whoever wins, in the national interest
Dear friends, supporters and followers
A thousand thank yous for your nearly 10,000 incredible messages of encouragement in my bid to be selected as a
@Conservatives
candidate to serve as an MP under PM
@BorisJohnson
Sadly it wasn't to be in Orpington.
My endeavour continues.
An independent report finds Sadiq Khan has caused overcrowding by excessively cutting tube services (passenger numbers are hugely down so there * should * be no overcrowding). I urge him to increase services to keep passengers - incl NHS workers - safe
The Conservatives are committed to delivering on our pledge to increase the maximum penalty for animal cruelty from 6 months to 5 years. We need to keep building on our protection of animal welfare!
This is the true face of Sir Keir Starmer and his Labour Party. They’re soft on crime and would rather campaign to stop the deportation of dangerous foreign criminals than try to protect the British public. It’s a disgrace.
the flight following legal challenges. Months later, the man subsequently brutally murdered one of our fellow citizens. Labour MPs and virtue-signalling celebrities should think again. And we clearly need to look again at how human rights law is applied to these cases
Pathetic manufactured indignation from
@DavidLammy
has caused £8m less money to be raised for charity. The cost of his absurd egotistical posturing is real. This is money that could have been used to save lives. He should fulsomely apologise to stop a repeat next year
I’m deeply saddened it has come to this, but the PM should step down given public and Parliamentary confidence has clearly gone, and given the importance of integrity in public life. I’m therefore stepping down as Minister for Tech and the Digital Economy now
58,000 Croydon residents yesterday voted by a landslide 80%-20% to reject the failed Labour Leader & instead directly elect an Executive Mayor. Unsurprising given Labour bankrupted Croydon, presided over the collapse of the Westfield project & passed appalling planning consents
In the past 10 days, we have deported over 140 foreign criminals, meaning over 700 have been removed from the UK since the start of the year.
Our New Plan for Immigration will make it easier to deport foreign criminals with no right to be in the UK and keep our citizens safe.
Deeply inappropriate that Sir Keir appears to be attempting to pressure the Police into clearing him with his announcement just now - by the admission of his own aides
Allies of Keir Starmer confident he won't be fined, but say he has no choice but to offer his resignation if he is. One says: "As a former DPP, the principles of this really matter to him." They add "it puts some pressure on Durham Police who are being leant on in one direction."
Despicable misrepresentation. In the last 5 years UK Resettlement schemes took more people direct from conflict zones than any EU state. We received more asylum claims from lone children last yr than any EU nation. This poor lad was in France, where he could have claimed asylum
Utterly heartbreaking. By closing safe routes to seek asylum we are pushing desperate people into dangerous situations with devastating consequences.
Our Govt must make protecting and saving lives a priority in their approach to English Channel crossings.
The public are sick of Just Stop Oil’s planned programme of deliberate disruptions to daily lives. I’ve just signed an SI to change the law, giving Police power to stop protests causing more than a “minor hindrance” to a journey. This comes into effect at midnight tonight.
As a 4x proven election winner against the odds (London in 2008 and 2012, 2016 referendum and 2019 general election) who has also delivered a world-leading covid vaccine programme, world-leading support to Ukraine, the lowest unemployment since 1974, record NHS spending & (cont)
They have committed crimes which have a devastating impact on victims & families. We'll be working through these cases as quickly as we can. I'm committed to removing foreign criminals & anyone with no right to be here to keep the British public safe, which is always my priority.
Words fail me that
@DavidLammy
thinks it's ok to compare people he disagrees with about Brexit to Nazis. This crass slur insults to the memory of 6 million Jews the Nazis murdered, and those who suffered as the Nazis violently invaded most of Europe
#Marr
: "That was an unacceptable comparison, wasn't it?"
Lammy: "Andrew, I would say that that wasn't strong enough"

Lot of media chat about IMF forecasts for 2023. No commentary about what *actually* happened last year (2022). UK had highest growth in G7 beating USA, Germany, France, Italy, Japan & China. Media rarely splash that. Actual real figures for last year (not forecasts) below
This Labour administration is a disgrace. We need a Directly Elected Executive Mayor who will be accountable and we need to kick Labour out in the 2022 local elections
This is from a Scottish Nationalist councillor and their national women’s convenor. When the mask slips, the unpleasant undertone of nationalism can be seen. Hatred is not what should motivate in politics
The numbers of small boats crossing the channel are currently totally unacceptable so I’ve been in northern France for the last 2 days. French forces have stopped over 8,000 crossings this year, but I have asked them to increase their efforts to completely cut this route
This is ** never ** reported in the media (unlike the invariably inaccurate IMF GDP forecasts):
Unemployment rate in largest 5 European economies
🇪🇸 Spain: 11.6%
🇮🇹 Italy: 7.4%
🇫🇷 France: 7.1%
🇩🇪 Germany: 5.6%
🇬🇧 UK: 4.0%

on new meaures to stop the illegal and dangerous small boat crossings. The joint intelligence agreement made today is just one step we will take
Concerned to read Sadiq Khan has increased press office spending by 26% and Mayor’s office costs 58% in four years. This is not the best use of public money - we need it on frontline services like Police, not spin
The majority of deportations of Foreign National Offenders are to European countries. Less than 1% are to Jamaica. None of those dangerous offenders going tomorrow are Windrush eligible. None were born in the UK.
Wrong. Coming into the UK by small boat without permission is illegal, under s24 (as amended) of the 1971 Immigration Act. Journalists and other are correct to refer to this as illegal immigration.
Broadcasters and journalists should challenge ministers who use the term "illegal" immigrants when referring to asylum seekers crossing the Channel in small boats. It is poor journalism not to do so.They may be "unlawful" but they have done nothing illegal. Why not say so?
Today I addressed the House of Commons on the need to tackle illegal boat crossings that are taking place in the Channel. This is an issue that both the Government and I take very seriously. You can watch more here
Hi
@colinkirkby88
is it really appropriate to trick vulnerable people whose care you are charged with into voting for who you want, potentially against their own wishes? It's an abuse to do that. You should resign. Or be fired for abusing yr position, which I will be calling for
Unbelievable. Khan was the only Police & Crime Commissioner to miss police recruitment targets. The Met could be over 1,000 Officers larger today if Khan had spent the Govt £ available for recruitment. The Met actually shrank by 400 Officers between March and September last year
Keeping Londoners safe is my number one priority, and as Mayor I've doubled investment in policing & crime prevention.
After more than a decade of Tory cuts - if re-elected, a return to proper neighbourhood policing would be at the heart of my third term.
This is deeply misleading. The UK’s food rules on 1/1/21 will be the same as now - the EU rules. Any changes we choose to make after that will be notified through the WTO in good time. M. Barnier’s threats to ban GB food exports to EU & NI when having same rules as EU is absurd
Sticking to facts is also essential. A case in point: 🇪🇺 is not refusing to list 🇬🇧 as a third country for food imports (SPS). To be listed, we need to know in full what a country’s rules are, incl. for imports. The same objective process applies to all listed countries [2/2]
I will be voting today to keep a No Deal exit on the table in all divisions (see below). I would like a sensible deal but we must be able to walk away if an agreement cannot be reached
The migrants concerned left places such as France & Germany - which are safe countries where they had already claimed asylum. Under the EU’s own rules they should return to the country where they 1st claimed asylum. The UK made 20,000 asylum grants last year so needs no lectures
The Government is trying to deport people who came to the UK fleeing war & torture.
This inhumane approach to migrants & asylum seekers must end.
Instead of scapegoating them, we should recognise our common humanity & provide safe refuge.
My letter to the Home Secretary 👇🏽
An important new agreement signed today on creating a Joint Intelligence Cell to break the criminal gangs facilitating illogal and dangerous Channel crossings

These individuals had every opportunity to raise the claims in the days and weeks leading up to the flight, however a significant number of claims were not submitted until hours before the flight was due to leave - meaning some murderers and rapists were able to stay in the UK.
Assaulting Police Officers during protests is totally unacceptable. Good that this man has been jailed for 6 months, within days of committing this offence during Saturday’s protest
UPDATE: The man who assaulted an officer during the protest in Whitehall on Saturday has been jailed.
41-year-old Atif Shafiq was sentenced to six months in prison.
District Judge Denis Brennan told Shafiq: "This country has an honourable tradition of peaceful protest."

Labour's claims that school meals are being taken away because of Universal Credit simply aren't true - in fact 50,000 more children will receive school meals under Universal Credit
I am honoured to have been formally reselected as the Conservatives Candidate for Croydon South for the next General Election.
There are some challenges ahead in Croydon, but I am confident that together we will more than meet them.
This is shocking. Nicola Sturgeon’s Govt’s own lawyers express “dismay” at the cover up which she presided over. Her position looks untenable following these revelations
Tomorrow, we are hoping to deport a number of foreign national offenders from our country.
I have replied to the
@UKLabour
MPs who are trying to stop this flight.
If their political views are likely to colour what they are saying about their work (eg left wing activists criticising Govt running of public services) then you should draw attention to it. Otherwise viewers have the wrong impression they are hearing impartial professional views
Let’s be clear. If we are interviewing people about politics their political views are relevant and we say so. If they are talking about a clinical matter like a global pandemic they are irrelevant. I don’t care how my doctor or nurse votes.
Many thanks to
@OliverDowden
for joining us in Croydon today. It’s time for change after 8 years of Labour mismanagement culminating in the Borough’s bankruptcy and tidal waves of inappropriate planning consents. These are the local issues at stake in this election
Delighted to have been appointed Minister for London, alongside existing duties at Justice
@MoJGovUK
. I’m a Londoner born and bred, and this is the greatest City on earth. I will work with the Mayor, but he needs to do less talking and more delivering on a whole range of issues
Delighted to have been appointed PPS to the Chancellor of the Exchequer,
@sajidjavid
A lot to do in order to prepare for leaving the EU on 31st October, and making sure the UK’s record high employment and 45-year record low unemployment continues

@pritipatel
and I have just agreed an enhanced plan with France to combat illegal, unnecessary and dangerous channel crossings. Thanks to intelligence, arrests and interceptions on French shores numbers have dropped in the last two months; we are determined to do more
No one is getting “persecuted” in France - a civilised country with a well-functioning asylum system. There is no reason or excuse to make these dangerous journeys which are facilitated by ruthless criminals
The UK Government attacking 'activist lawyers', dehumanising people fleeing persecution and boasting about deportations as if that will stop the traffickers - Trump isn't their inspiration, this IS Trump. Not only shameful, ultimately futile as the boats keep coming...

Fantastic news for the UK - despite the political uncertainty last year we were the TOP European country for tech investment - beating France and Germany COMBINED - increasing over 40% year-on-year! 2020 will be even better - we have a great future

Bill. It’s because so many on his own side and crossbenchers reject the legislation
Recording a dispute between partners in their own home without their knowledge & then giving it to a newspaper is a gross invasion of privacy - esp when the Police had confirmed no-one was in danger & there were no grounds for any action. The person who did it shld be ashamed
Every single journalist saying that the neighbours shouldn't have released the story should know that their publication has at some time or another called me and asked for information on abusive MPs. It is rank hypocrisy
Can I suggest that Labour MPs stop using the hashtag “KillTheBill” following violent attacks on Police officers yesterday at a protest on the legislation currently before Parliament. Silent Starmer should rebuke his MPs for doing this
Sir Keir is complicit in this - sitting silently in Corbyn’s Shadow Cabinet, actively campaigning twice (2017, 2019) to make Corby PM and saying literally nothing at the time about the rife anti-semitism in Labour, later found by the Equalities and HR Commission to be unlawful
Gary - calling for “intifada” and “jihad” (as many at the protests have done) is NOT a call for ceasefire or peace. It is the opposite. A number of protesters have been arrested for offences including inciting racial hated. I suggest you reconsider your tweet below
Delighted to have been re-elected in Croydon South with an increased majority. Many thanks to everyone who voted for me. I will work hard for the whole community in the coming years
Labour are claiming to support rape victims. Yet tonight they will vote against a Bill that sees rapists spend more of their sentence in jail. Shameful.
Just signed a prisoner transfer agreement with Albanian Justice Minister
@GjonajEtilda
. This will ensure that serious offenders can serve part of their sentence in Albanian jails rather than UK ones. We continue to work with Albania to support their Justice system
Despite Sadiq Khan’s claims today on the TfL bailout, Govt position is the same as here on Sunday: the Govt will will cover the cost of Covid but not the cost of Khan. It is up Sadiq Khan to make his own choices to also help TfL finances
This is what the Croydon Labour Party has done to our Borough. They could afford to spend £30m buying a hotel that then went bankrupt and over £200m on a failed property developer, but chose to spend nothing on decent homes for the most vulnerable. Shameful.
Are these the worst council housing conditions in Britain?
These are some of the appalling conditions ITV News found people living in at a London tower block. Residents' repeated calls to the council for repairs were ignored.
