40 years ago today my brother Michael died of a brain tumour, age 5. Grief of losing him had profound impact on our family. I still miss him every day. In the midst of the current pandemic my heart goes out to all those grieving and my thanks goes out to all those supporting them

Children have made huge sacrifices over the last few months. Those sacrifices have meant that from today younger children can start to reconnect with friends & wider family (outside) without physical distancing. This is essential for children’s development - hugs really matter ♥️

Outdoors only, children 11 or under no longer need to physically distance from other children/adults. For those asking, yes that does mean they can hug gran/grandad (but not if the adult is shielding). Adults must distance from each other & stick to rules on size of gatherings

It is over 18 months since @ScotParl unanimously passed #UNCRCScotland incorporation bill. A year since @UKSupremeCourt ruled that some sections needed reconsideration. It is essential that @ScotGov brings the bill back to @ScotParl for reconsideration without further delay.

The #UNCRCScotland Bill was the result of many years of work. Its maximalist approach to securing children's rights received unanimous support from @ScotParl and praise internationally. News of the @GOVUK challenge, albeit on very limited grounds, takes nothing away from that.

My youngest brother’s 40th today. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen my brothers and Covid means it will be at least another year. I miss them. It’s great that today there are new legal protections for care experienced brothers and sisters in Scotland.

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child and the Council of Europe have been very clear that an age of criminal responsibility below 14 is unacceptable. It is disappointing that it has taken so long for us to get just to age 12.
