The

The

I provided evidence and willing witnesses.
The DoD Inspector General ignored my complaint. Never contacted witnesses. No investigation.

The Alkonis family is finally reunited!
The U.S. Parole Commission ordered Ridge’s immediate release this morning.

We welcome the long overdue release and return of seven U.S. nationals, wrongfully detained in Venezuela. We will never stop working until all U.S. nationals held hostage or wrongfully detained around the world are home.

No lawyers are allowed in Japanese interrogation rooms, and interrogations are rarely recorded.
Japanese interrogators go into the room alone with suspects. And then after hours and hours, signed “confessions” miraculously come out of the room.
These ladders are brought to you by our sweet little man “for the prisoners to climb out of jail, but the one with the dots is for daddy because it’s the fastest.”

We plead with Prime Minister

It’s been 9 months since the USG sent the request to Japan. Please, be part of the path to healing.
On the anniversary of this tragedy, we plead with Japan to act in a humanitarian manner by approving the prisoner transfer request of

Upon leaving the prison Jr said, “Mommy, how many years has daddy been in jail? He’s lived there more than he’s lived with us.” 15 months to a 5yo is an eternity.

Congress should not allow anything less.
Dear

Please stop telling Congress & the media to be quiet.
Silence from you is what led us to where we are now—prison.
Stop trying to silence others, it’s not helping.
ONE YEAR IN PRISON
July 25, 2022: LT Ridge Alkonis left his home & family to begin an unjust prison sentence.
Since that time,
@POTUS
@VP
@JakeSullivan46
& Congressional GOP & Dems have all asked Japan to conduct an international prison transfer.
.
@StateSPEHA
Ambassador Carstens keeps saying the “blue passport” matters.
And
@SecDef
keeps saying service members matter.
If it were true, then why is Ridge Alkonis in prison?
Why do military families have no access to a lawyer if arrested in Japan?
@POTUS
w/the G7 quickly approaching, pls direct each member of your administration to address Japan’s repugnant justice system and the need to

The detention of

In addition to being a wonderful husband & father, LT Ridge Alkonis is an incredible naval officer.

The President’s power to commute LT Ridge Alkonis’s sentence is explicitly stated within our Constitution & the Council of Europe Treaty.
Article 12 of the Treaty’s “Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons” is clear on

Alkonis represents the 100,000+ service members, dependents, & DoD civilians in Japan. They deserve basic human rights.
All are at risk. SOFA must be reviewed & revised.
Mr. President,
The Alliance will not be as strong as it needs to be so long as
#LtRidgeAlkonis
is imprisoned in Japan.
Please call
@JPN_PMO
and demand this injustice be corrected immediately.
The United States stands with Japan at this critical moment.
Our alliance is the cornerstone of a free and open Indo-Pacific and we welcome Japan’s contributions to peace and prosperity.
Reached 10k followers last night on Instagram!
This’ll uplift Ridge.
Reaching even small milestones like this helps give him hope, hope that one day he’ll get to go home to his children.

@USNavy
Lieutenant Ridge Alkonis
She’s right, this is shameful!
Allowing anyone, especially an ally, to just walk all over our military families is UNACCEPTABLE!
The right to a lawyer is not a controversial issue; it’s a basic human right…except in Japan.
How can America trust you with their sons and daughters in a time of war, when we can’t trust you to protect us from our allies during a time of peace?
@SecDef
@SECNAV
@USForcesJapan
@CNFJ
, this is shameful.
Do better.
Be better.
Protect your people.
@BringRidgeHome
“The United States must keep our national commitments to care for our military families, including Lt. Alkonis who serves voluntarily in our Armed Forces.” -
@RepAmata
Military families around the world are watching this case.
Service members have no right to legal counsel in Japan.
Authorities can interrogate for 8-hours a day with no lawyer present with no video recordings of the interrogations.
That needs to change!
The US-ROK Status of Forces Agreement was updated in recent years to ensure forces in Korea have access to legal counsel, a competent interpreter, & a USG rep at all times.
Why have we been able to make improvements to this SOFA but not in Japan?
Read my Concurrent Resolution👇calling on Congress to review the US-Japan SOFA and investigate
#LtRidgeAlkonis
’s case.
I hope to have this passed by the 2nd week of Jan.
I invite my fellow State legislators to pass similar resolutions.
My view is that
@DeptofDefense
@USNavy
threw
@BringRidgeHome
overboard for the sake of political expediency, then lied about it in public and to the press privately. Many objectively brilliant Pentagon reporters fell for character assassination.
@BasedMikeLee
is right.
The facts and circumstances of the case, and the lack of due process in Japan, made it clear to the U.S. Parole Commission that Navy Lieutenant Ridge Alkonis isn't a criminal and shouldn't be behind bars.
The military is a family unlike any other, and the alumni and friends of The
@NavalAcademy
and
@WestPoint_USMA
are proof that our strength is in our people.
Unions were created to stand up for the little guy.
As a service member,
#LtRidgeAlkonis
doesn’t have a union to fight for him.
But the military & firefighter communities have always shared a strong relationship; and the
@IAFFofficial
won’t tolerate this injustice.
HELLO! Why does everyone seem to think it’s okay to let Americans, on their country’s errand, be interrogated for days on end without a right to a lawyer? !
Exactly why we’ve been saying the SOFA needs to be revised.
“It’s just natural that suspects are not allowed to see lawyers”‼️
And just where is such a legal practice “natural,” other than a draconian hostage justice system?
“Under Jpn’s hostage justice system, individuals can be detained for up to 23 days w/o charge and w/o access to legal counsel. During this period, they can be subjected to prolonged interrogations and other forms of psychological pressure to extract a confession.”
#ChatGPT
knows.
Is
@SecDef
Austin really saying this…after he refused to stand up for
#LtRidgeAlkonis
?
While constitutional rights and due process were violated and justice denied.
Refusing to defend justice for
#LtRidgeAlkonis
is a threat to service members around the world.
As Dr. King said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” As we commemorate
#MLKDay
, I encourage us to reflect on how far we’ve come, but also on the important work we have left to do to ensure equal rights, liberty, and justice for all.
@SecDef
@SecBlinken
SecDef, I hope you were able to use our presence outside the 2+2 meetings today as a reminder to discuss

#LtRidgeAlkonis
Countries protected by the U.S. military shouldn’t (a) imprison U.S. military personnel absent criminal intent, or (b) or punish them more harshly than their own citizens. When they do, the U.S. shouldn’t make it easy for them to get away with it.
