I was thinking about it and you know what, I don't care if it's not snowing yet or that the ground might be too warm for it to stick in the morning. Our MULES deserve a snow day! Go ahead Bedford and sleep in tomorrow. This day's on me. 😉
Bedford Public Schools will be closed on Friday, February 1st, 2019. As much as we miss all of our students and staff, the continued dangerous wind chill and the ice covered side roads make it unsafe for opening. See you on Monday! An alert will be sent out shortly.
Bedford Public Schools (including latchkey) will be closed tomorrow, February 26, 2020. Based on updated weather forecasts, travel to school would be manageable, but continuing snow will make it dangerous throughout the day. Be safe and warm Mules!
The district team will be driving the roads early to check for safety. This means is you are trying to bribe me this evening, you are wasting your time. You will have better luck if you are up and trying while the decision is being made around 4:30 am. See you then! ⏰
This is what happens when the superintendent goes shopping for a case of water at 7:00 am. He remembers what it feels like to be inside a hot classroom and purchases 4,500 Kool-Aid Ice Pops for the district. Let’s just hope that they freeze fast 😊
To my colleagues that have always wanted to flip the script on calling snow days. Parents, why haven’t you called off enrichment learning for tomorrow yet? There is almost a flurry in the air and it’s slightly chilly! What are you waiting for! Call it for the kids 😂
#Levity
I will be out early in the morning checking our roads. I appreciate all of the support that our students have been offering to help me make the decision easier (and the $1 bribe😉). Check back tomorrow!
My 16 week old German Shepherd (Gus) was very uninspired by his role as co-pilot during road checks this morning. He would much rather be out playing in the snow! Be a safe Mules

Mules-I miss interacting with students daily and often use twitter to communicate when possible. I regularly find myself laughing out loud at some of your tweets. However, I may reevaluate this practice if an unfortunate few continue to be disrespectful. We Can Be Better...
How great is it that it takes a full 50 foot long banner to highlight the BHS Class of 2020! Congratulations to all 350 Graduating Kicking Mules! Thank you Principal Weber and Staff for this great recognition.

Due to weather conditions not improving as predicted, Bedford Public School will be closing today, February 6, 2019. We apologize for any inconvenience but truly expected to see temperatures rise at a faster rate as expected. Be safe everyone
Bedford Public Schools supports the LET THEM PLAY movement. Our students and coaches have demonstrated that school organized athletics are safe when combined with effective and consistent mitigation strategies. Our students need this!
#LetThemPlay
Bedford Public Schools will be closed Friday, February 5, 2021 due to extreme weather. This includes all learning programs (virtual and in-person) and district latch key. Be safe Mules and use this opportunity to help someone in need of assistance!
We will be making the call early in the morning. I’m sure that you all understand that weather forecasts have been known to change significantly over a very short period of time.
We are continuing to monitor conditions but at this point we have not made any decisions regarding tomorrow’s schedule. The forecast doesn’t look promising but we will wait until early morning for an updated report.
It appears that Gov. Whitmer will be making an important announcement on Thursday. Whatever the decision, Bedford Public Schools is ready to serve our students! We miss our Mules!
Since the district is closed today, how about we make it “Support Our Local Bedford Business Day”. There are so many incredible local small businesses that support Bedford Students, let’s make an effort to support them today! Eat, Shop, Play in Bedford!
#BedfordSupport

BPS was awarded a MSP School Safety Grant for $186,162.00 yesterday. The award will cover the purchase and installation for new remote access/lockdown and keyless entry systems at each school. The Bond funds slated for this project will be used to enhance other bond projects!
I will settle for all students taking a few moments today to do something kind for a neighbor, friend, family member, or stranger. Enjoy these opportunities as they are random and too few and far between. Enjoy
@BedfordSupt
@theMuleNation
By my calculations you owe
@BedfordSupt
three grapes, a pink starburst, a cookie, breakfast, a gym locker sock, $40.69, and a fortnight account password!! 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you to everyone that helped with and supported the SUCCESSFUL BPS Bond Proposal. Our students and staff deserve upgraded facilities and now we can make sure that they will have them! Great work everyone! 👏🏻👏🏻
I will be up and on the roads with our team at 4:30 am. As of right now it looks like it could be a tough go. I would start whatever hopeful snow day routine that you have now! So let the dancing, ice cube hiding/flushing begin...
To quote the great American motion picture Gladiator “the mob is fickle”. Yesterday, I was being treated to steak dinners and free coffee and today I am not being awarded any congratulatory tokens for doing my job. 🤷♂️. Don’t worry Mules you are still tops in my book! 😉
Bedford Public Schools will be closed Thursday, January 26, 2023 due to unsafe road conditions for our bus fleet. We did everything that we could to be prepared, but sometimes you just have to understand that it is about safety. Enjoy one last day Mules...
Bedford Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 due to the impending winter storm. While we understand that the snow will not be moving in until morning, the almost unanimously forecasted 5+ inches will create dangerous travel conditions during school hours.
Someone asked me yesterday if I would shave my head if 80% of BHS students vaccinated. I would not only shave my head, but I would also shave
@shultzatcarlson
head also! I mean she wouldn’t mind since it’s for the students. Right?
Bedford Public Schools will be closed today due to dropping temperatures and potentially hazardous travel conditions throughout the day. This morning's call was one of the harder weather related decisions we've had in a while. Stay warm and dry Mules!
UPDATE per request:
Sometimes it snows in Michigan! Sometimes that snow makes our roads slippery! Sometimes the superintendent of BPS is forced to cancel school to ensure the safety of his students and staff! THAT IS ALL... thank you
Due to today’s school cancellation, Bedford Public Schools will have our official student count day tomorrow, February 14, 2019.

In our continued effort to ensure that our students have available resources at their fingertips, all secondary BPS Student ID’s have crisis contact information listed. Students remember that there is no such thing as a small crisis. Let’s talk!

Have a safe and relaxing Memorial Day Weekend. Thank you to all that have served to protect our great nation. This includes my incredible son Lt. Jacob Shultz. I am proud of you and can not wait for you to get back home safely.
@BedfordSchools
I am thinking about all of the senior class tweets that were directed toward me regarding weather decisions this winter. I should take a few minutes to answer them all during my superintendent’s address to the class at commencement. 👨🏻🎓 Is there a record for longest speech?
Michigan House and Senate have approved legislation to excuse four additional emergency days (this year). The Bill has been sent to the Governor for her signature. Thank you Bedford for your patience and support. Thank you Senator Zorn and Representatives Sheppard and Bellino!
Bedford Public Schools will be opening our doors for another great year tomorrow morning. Thank you to all of the great staff throughout the district that has helped to plan and prepare for our students. Thank you parents for keeping our students engaged all summer. LETS GO!
I am glad to see so many eager young minds awake and talking about school this morning! The winds were very strong and loud last night as reported but we have maintained power in each of our buildings. Let’s have a great day Mules!
It will almost assuredly be snowing in the morning, but I wouldn’t get too deep into that binge worthy show you started this evening. I’m guessing you’ll be needing your rest since first hour comes awfully early!
It appears that “Snowmageddon 18” has moved on and we are in for better weather this week! We will of course be monitoring local road conditions throughout the early morning!
My heart is breaking from learning about the loss of one of our talented young students and his sister. Please see
@BedfordSchools
for a letter posted on our district website for additional information. BPS will be available for any support needed for friends and family.
Every once in a while a dad gets to enjoy the smaller things in life like seeing his beautiful daughter get her ears pierced for the first time. I love my life.

We are very sorry about the late developing weather delay. The system was being watched closely but progressed rapidly causing the freezing rain and icy conditions. We will continue to monitor.
Congratulations BHS Class of 2020! A wonderful tribute to a resilient group of young men and women.

A great example of how Bedford students support each other. BHS Seniors teaming up with BPS 4th graders today. Shout out to Deputy Lestock for serving as guest DJ 🎧
Bedford Public Schools will be closed today (January 26, 2021) for icy conditions on our back roads and side streets. This includes all learners and latchkey programs. The district will take this opportunity to complete a thorough disinfection of our school buildings and buses.
This entire situation remains uncharted territory, but we still believe that BPS can offer flexible learning opportunities that are both meaningful and manageable to all students. Our hope is that we will be able to roll-out the fall plan in concept by the end of this week.
