This rate increase means about a 50% increase on mortgage payments (cumulatively). Inflation is on NON-discretionary items. Fuel. Power. Food. The people paying? Most likely newer entrants to the home market (fho), and renters. The inequality continues to spread

I am very, very honoured - and overwhelmed - to have been invited to give the 18th Dymphna Clark lecture on Nov 15. I’ll be making the case against ‘nice’ and how civility is wielded as a weapon to keep groups and voices away from seats of power. I’m very nervous!

The entire rental industry needs to change. For the first time in Australia it will not be unusual for people to rent their entire lives. They have no protections. A rental should be a home, not a money making opportunity, where people are commodified

The entire retirement system is built on the assumption people will own their own home - this is what it’s like if you don’t:

Asked about the exorbitant price of Australian housing RBA Gov Phil Lowe says it is a consequence of the 'choices' Australians have made – living in the city/coast with large blocks of land. People live where the infrastructure/jobs are. It's not a 'choice' it's a necessity

The flag has a hole in it because it’s been so windy in Canberra - and those same windy conditions mean it’s not safe for workers to change it.

The Australian flag flying above Parliament House has a gaping hole in it. We should have pride in our flag and I hope the Prime Minister @AlboMP will fix this

"And it wasn't until a white woman stood up and said, 'yeah, this happened to me, too', that the media took notice. And I think that is a great example of the media landscape in this country and that is systemic racism. I was not believed. (cont)

Tradies are working on the roof of a neighbour’s property and I’m indulging in one of my favourite guilty pleasures - listening to tradies complain about the previous work of other tradies

Albanese minister Ed Husic has come forward to say he believes ‘very strongly’ Palestinians are being collectively punished. It’s a statement of the obvious, but very brave in this political climate and the lack of nuance in much of the reporting. (He also condemned Hamas)
