I don't think it's fair to retcon Unity as a bad engine. It is an absolute banger of an engine. one that has recently been marred by tech debt and even worse leadership, but imo it's a great loss for industry newcomers. unity a decade ago was unmatched for zero experience devs

it's almost impossible to describe what a great decision it was to downgrade unity to 2018 before ludum dare. my code just compiles and runs, no staring at a screen for 20 minutes. it's just 😚👌 how did they completely destroy this amazing product haha

I don't know how anyone can use unity anymore since the 2020 updates, how are you supposed to develop when reloading script assemblies takes minutes every time you run the editor, and changing one line of code is like a 5 minute stall? prototyping has become as slow as porting
