For those wondering how I’m doing after Latham’s homophobic attacks today, I’m fine and I’m more motivated than ever to deliver long overdue LGBTIQA+ reforms… and I have the most handsome husband.
Here’s what a lot of LGBTIQA+ people are thinking: The same federal government that spent over $100 million mailing every Australian a survey on whether we should be able to marry the person we love, still can’t send all Aussies a rapid test.
Powerful and tragic installation in Martin Place today. 66 pairs of shoes for the 66 women killed in the last 12 months in Australia, as a result of domestic violence. The installations if from Lou’s Place, a day women’s refuge in Kings Cross
Tonight the NSW Parliament is shamefully legislating to increase penalties for climate protesters. This will not deter, only embolden, those who seek to provide elected representatives with a reality check on desperate state of global warming.
Three ways
@ScottMorrisonMP
has lost the next generation of voters:
1. Voting to continue discrimination against LGBTI kids in schools
2. Condemning thousands of students who protested for action on climate.
3. Keeping kids in offshore detention centres.
Federal Liberal party wanted a public vote on a reform they could deliver without one:
#marriageequality
, but are opposing a required public vote on the defining reform of our times: the
#Voice
to parliament. They are out of touch & a majority of voters will tell them this again.
Crown Casino opens today on what should have been public harbour front land. This blight on our city is a reminder of how the Coalition Government and Labor Opposition betrayed the people of NSW to favour a billionaire (who today, can’t be associated with it).

If you are truely interested in supporting a Christian cause, promoting freedom, protecting kids & workers from exploitation, do not donate to the

Fund. Support World Vision’s work on child slavery $3 Million would save the thousands of lives
Proud and historic day for me today, as I give notice of the LGBTIQA+ Equality Bill. This bill has been the result of 18 months consultation and drafting. I’m looking forward to working with my parliamentary colleagues to modernise our laws & advance equality for LGBTQIA+ people
Fair-minded people don’t want vulnerable kids bullied by political leaders. I’ve maintained a good working relationship with the Perrottet government, but it would be impossible for that to continue if trans youth continue to be picked on by the Premier.
When there are so many vulnerable people in need across Australia, the fact that Folau chooses to use his platform to cause harm and hurt, rather than help those who need a champion, is a true reflection of his character. What a coward!
Congratulations Mr Speaker! I’m proud to join the new Premier
@ChrisMinnsMP
in backing my independent colleague
@GregPiperMP
as the next Speaker of the
@NSWParlLA
!
Greg will be an experienced and unifying Speaker for the Parliament.
Abortion should not be a crime in NSW, it should be treated as a health care issue and regulated with clarity and appropriate protections and safe guards. I’n grateful that a clear majority of government, cross-bench, and opposition MPs support this and our co-sponsored bill.
Today, after over 12 months of consultation with experts, collaboration with colleagues, and hearing countess harrowing personal stories, I’m ready to introduce the voluntary assisted dying bill 2021.
You can watch my introduction speech live at 10am via
@NSWParlLA
live feed.
Our bill to decriminalise abortion in NSW has passed the NSW Upper House with amendments. Tomorrow, as the mover of the bill I will move that these amendments be agreed to. Should that vote pass, abortion will finally be decriminalised in NSW.
Following conversations with the incoming NSW Labor Government, the Members for Sydney, Wagga Wagga, and Lake Macquarie have agreed to offer confidence and supply and look forward to a strong and consultative working relationship with Premier-elect Chris Minns and his team.
Wonderful news that the Powerhouse will remain in Ultimo! We have long campaigned not only to retain it, but also ensure a new museum is established in Parramatta, which the government has also confirmed. Both will create new jobs & showcase an amazing collection 👏👏👏
“I’d like to know why Morrison was part of a cabinet that insisted on a plebiscite, because we were told the people’s will needed to be reflected by the parliament, yet then walked out of the chamber rather than vote for the successful yes vote to make marriage equality law.”
This will be the first federal election for the 100,000 mainly younger voters who
@AMEquality
got on the electoral roll during the
#marriageequality
postal survey. I’m pretty sure they will have something to say and will make a huge impact this election

I’m proud to announce that the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill will be cosponsored by 28 MPs across both Houses of Parliament and across the government, opposition and cross-bench. This is more than any other bill, in any other Parliament, in Australia’s history

I’m not supporting the vote of no-confidence. Threshold is maladministration or corruption. Premier has worked hard to get us through the pandemic & there are no corruption charges against the Premier. The ICAC inquiry is into Daryl Maguire whose resignation I called for in 2018.
Eight years ago today, this “gay party boy” was elected to continue

Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. We have fought and won many battles, they have not been easy, and in Australia and around the world there is still much more to 🏳️🌈🌏

For many years, my husband Vic would have to deal with me spending Valentine’s Day organising media stunts for the
#marriageequality
campaign. Fortunately, we won and now we get to enjoy the day with a quiet dinner together. Happy
#valentinesday
Vic, I love you 😘
Our campaign was about Australia and shaping our country as a fairer and more equal place. Your campaign was full of attack ads against the LGBTI community - you approved them & funded them, maybe watch them & talk to the kids & families you attacked daily to find out the impact.
Hi
@alexgreenwich
, just read your comments. I’d be glad if you could detail exactly what our campaign did to cause “appalling harm” & what we said that “demonised the most vulnerable”. Thanks.
A year ago, Ian Roberts came to me with an idea - to create Australia's first pride museum.
Now we're getting on and delivering it.
Turning a page on the Old Darlinghurst Police Station's story, where LGBTQ+ 78ers were held and beaten.
And writing into it a new chapter.
Today marks the closing of the powerful
@SydWorldPride
. We’ve seen commitments to change discriminatory laws, welcomed the world to our city, and this morning closed the Sydney Harbour Bridge for a 50,000 person march for equality. Sydney isn’t just back, it’s better than ever 🌈
On the 6 month anniversary of the Yes vote, let’s reflect that our movement provided the leadership we didn’t have from Canberra for so long! Thank you to the millions who shaped Australia as a fairer & more equal place, & our LGBTI & ally Senators & MPs who got it through APH!
Our Bill to decriminalise abortion in NSW has been a long time coming. It follows decades of advocacy & hard work. Thank you

@PennySharpemlc
@TrevorKhan1
and Health Minister
@BradHazzard
and all the other advocates and MPs who have got us here

only the Greens and Independents supported a ban on gambling advertising. The Coalition and Labor joined forces to vote it down 73 to 7. If you are concerned about the damage being done by the promotion of gambling, remember this when you vote next March.
Queensland has now passed voluntary assisted dying 60 to 29. Colleagues across NSW Parliament are ready to debate my proposed bill for this compassionate reform. People with a terminal illness in NSW should be treated with the same dignity as those in every other state

Breaking: Today I’ve announced, that if re-elected I will introduce legislation to remove exemptions that allow private schools to discriminate against LGBTI students & teachers. The federal parliament failed to act & I will work hard to see NSW succeed

Josh Landis’s position as CEO of ClubsNSW is beyond untenable and it’s time for him to go. I’ve had my policy disputes with the Premier on social reforms, but I would never attack him because of his faith.
Debate on the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2021 is expected to begin tomorrow morning. I’m committed to a respectful debate where all views are heard and look forward to working with colleagues to address this compassionate reform

It’s important we listen to experts. Sydney NYE fireworks will support disaster recovery efforts, help small businesses & welcome the world to 2020. Cancelling them would waste millions of ratepayers dollars, reduce fundraising for those in need, & hurt local & state economy.
The Sydney Harbour fireworks have been approved to proceed tomorrow.
The NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW are assessing a number of other Total Fire Ban exemptions.

has just unanimously passed my motion in support of the Trans and Gender Diverse Community. The full motion and my speech is here
The polls have closed! Thank you Sydney! Let’s hope we’ve kept Sydney Independent and are returned with a big mandate to continue to deliver for Sydney!
Two years ago today Australia said YES to
#marriageequality
. It was a campaign that dominated a decade of my life. Over that decade I met and continue to be inspired by some of the smartest and bravest Australians 🌈🇦🇺
Some news: I’m honoured to have been included in group of LGBTIQA+ advocates featured by the QVB during
@SydWorldPride
. Here’s the portrait they will feature. Thanks
@brendandelahay
for the fabulous styling. I think I should wear this on the the first day of the next Parliament.
Last week we had a great meeting with the new Premier Chris Minns! We discussed the cooperative working relationship we will forge with the government including on progressing gambling reform, protecting the environment, regional health, and LGBTIQ equality

After spending time with victims of institutional sexual abuse in the boarding house during

I successfully lobbied the government to ensure they get priority housing
The 78’ers were right. The people who painted “No War” on the Opera House were right.
Labor and the Coalition were wrong in passing some of the strongest anti-protest laws in Australia that have seen climate protesters jailed.
Ahead of ANZAC Day, I have laid a rainbow wreath and copy of “Serving in Silence” to remember the sacrifice of LGBTI service people who have fought and represented Australia, been forced to hide their sexuality, and often not received the recognition they deserve 🏳️🌈
Australia voted for equality & fairness, not targeted discrimination of LGBTI students & teachers. We should be reducing bullying in schools, not legislating it! It’s your call
@ScottMorrisonMP
, be the PM for all Australians & scrap these recommendations
Folau using the tragedy of the bushfires to get attention and cause further harm, should be all the Morrison Government needs to drop their unnecessary and unworkable “religious freedoms” laws.
Former Wallaby Israel Folau claims Australia’s devastating bushfire crisis and record-breaking drought are God’s punishment for legalising same-sex marriage and abortion | WATCH
Words and hate can lead to violence. This election we have seen a small but loud group of cruel and lazy politicians target the LGBTQIA+ community for attention. They are a disgrace and all major party political leaders should call it out and condemn it.

Coming soon: 20 hectares of new public open green space at Moore Park! This morning I joined Premier
@ChrisMinnsMP
and Lord Mayor
@CloverMoore
to announce Moore Park Golf Course will move from 18 to 9 holes, openning the rest for passive and active recreation for all Sydneysiders
Thank you to all my colleagues for the passionate and respectful debate today. After the two full days of debate we have had 39 in support and 25 opposed, with debate set to continue and likely a vote expected next Thursday
