Felt honoured and proud today to receive an MBE. It’s incredible and did not expect the Royal Family to put this tweet out! Congrats to all who received their honours, some amazing people doing good work. It’s an honour to work with women, British Muslim women. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

After much consideration I decided to share publicly as chair of the government’s Islamophobia taskforce that we haven’t met in years.
On the UN day to combat

it is imperative the critical work of the anti-Muslim hatred working group resumes
Look at this shero. Smiling in the face of violent racists. Make no mistake, inside she would’ve been feeling scared, heart racing. Wondering if things will escalate, if she will be harmed. Thankfully she wasn’t. Tommy Robinson is a violent racist.

Thank you for stepping in and being a good human being. It is scary for some women, being a hijab wearing woman at the moment. However heartwarming for them to know there are more people like you in the world. 🙏🏽
One thing I wanted to share is that I’ve noticed random people smiling at me today, whilst I’ve been out in London. So thank you random strangers for your gift of a smile and solidarity 💖

Thank you
@BegumNadiya
for speaking out about the sexual abuse you suffered as a child and the deeply traumatic impact it had on your life. Many British Muslim women have had similar experiences but suffer in silence.
Today I experienced what can only be described as a hate crime. I have 3 under 10’s with me and a teenage daughter.
I can’t help but wonder if the ramping up of rhetoric against immigrants and asylum seekers has contributed to this.

In Waterstones today friendly elderly man stops to chat with my 6yo son, asks him where he is from, 6yo says England. Then he asks my son “where were you born?”, my son says England. Then he asks “where are your parents from?” my son says England. They carry on chatting.
When the President retweeted Britain First, people thought it was a mistake. It was not. It was deliberate. Since 2016 social media has been used to radicalise and validate the extreme thinking of far right sympathisers.
Vile threats and disgusting Anti-Semitism, here in the UK, will not help Palestinians in the Middle East. It will not put a stop to the violence in Israel and Palestine. This kind of hatred is unacceptable. All hate crimes should be reported to the police.
I like most people have been preoccupied with thoughts about

however today is the 1st year anniversary since the New Zealand terrorist attacks, in which 51 Muslims were shot as they worshipped together in mosques. The global threat of white supremacism still exists.
I haven't spoken about this before publicly but in 2012, whilst I was CEO of a charity a man that worked for me shared my mobile no. & this photo of me with Asghar Bukhari, who then posted it on his Facebook telling people to hound me, as part of a campaign to get me to leave.
There has been much misinformation regarding the awful ‘Punish a Muslim’ letters. Please try to not share vlogs, posts or statuses that scaremonger or falsely attribute incidents to the letters. Police advise being vigilant but continuing your usual activities.

This made me cry. For Muslims being buried within 24 hours of death is sacred, as is the washing of the body. Traditionally relatives wash the body of their loved ones. But in these circumstances where do you even begin, when 49 of your community has been murdered?
#NewZealand
Recently I have been reflecting a lot about a minority of people that call themselves activists, who tend to dominate certain campaigns/appear very vocal & influential, but are actually divisive. Often difficult people who can't work with others & silence genuine change makers.
"I wonder whether Meghan was conscious of the bias she showed in choosing 15 ‘forces for change’ for the Vogue cover, all of whom were women, of which only five were white?" writes

Guys I made chicken bread. I mean this is a big deal for me. As my children know I hardly bake. I find chapati making really stressful so this is a huge step for me. It was tasty and it helped the middle child had previously prepared the chicken mixture (she made gyoza on Sunday)
It has been a tough few days especially for Muslim Women who are feeling vulnerable. Most anti-Muslim hate crimes, across Europe, US and UK, are perpetrated against identifiably Muslim women, by white men. We can all act on solidarity to overcome this type of hatred.
On now: What impact has the shootings at the mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand had on Muslim women in the UK? We hear from

Shoddy article tarnishing a good mosque that provides much needed services to locals. I met with its Chief Executive a few weeks ago & he was clear that no extremists should be allowed into the mosque. Approx 2000 visit the mosque each week.
Great to see

It will be 20 years since 9/11 next month and Afghanistan is now under the control of the Taliban once again.
The Taliban are like cancer, a sickness. Afghan women need our support. They have always lived under terrible conditions that has now worsened.
Some people use social media to express their outrage & support for particular causes. Some use other means.
Not posting on social media is not a sign of someone’s beliefs, (lack of) commitment/efforts.
There are different ways to strive for justice and equality.
Muslim women are not there to be used for anyone’s political agenda. Our experiences are real, our perceptions are based on those realities. If we say Islamophobia impacts our lives: that is not victimhood. If we say sexual violence within is a problem: that is not Islamophobic.

Thank you for raising this. I was thinking this just today. Whilst encouraging children to speak up is a good thing, it betrays a complete lack of understanding of how child abuse works in reality and puts the onus on children to protect themselves, when they are vulnerable.
I am honoured & so very humbled to have been named one of the Stylist Women of the Year 2017. So many amazing women worked on WML to make it happen. This is for all of them, 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽 their 💖, solidarity & continued openness.

As a person of colour and minority it’s really difficult to speak out, so I can only imagine how much courage it took Dr Ranj to share this statement and his experiences. Bullying and pushing out whistleblowers is all too commonplace.
I can’t & won’t apologise for holding organisations & powerful men to account over sexual harassment, abuse or misconduct. Being outspoken on this issue might seem like it’s not the way to do things but the issue runs so deep throughout society that it needs a robust response.
Reminder: Muslim women are more likely to experience anti-Muslim hatred /
#Islamophobia
than men. We face an intersection of racism, sexism & faith based discrimination/prejudice. A significant contributing factor-we are demonised & our voices rarely heard on our terms.
I have organised a roundtable for Muslim women to discuss their experiences of everyday Islamophobia, & possible solutions. Please get in touch if you would like to attend. Will be in Jan, East London.
Rod Liddle wishes British Muslims will not vote in the election. He wants it so bad that he hopes there is a day in the Islamic calendar when Muslims are forbidden to vote. Well there isn’t one. Personally I hope all 3.3 million Muslims in the UK turn out to vote (for any party).
Yesterday I attended the important seminar on Islam & sexual ethics. A senior scholar stated unequivocally that rape, forced marriage are not allowed in Islam or the Quran. Noura deserves justice & should not be penalised for defending herself.

Noura Hussein, a 19-year-old woman in Sudan, has been sentenced to death for killing the man she was forced to marry, after she says he raped her while his relatives held her down.

why are you allowing Tariq Ramadan to speak at your university when there are allegations of sexual violence against him, currently going through the criminal justice system in France?

Brilliant work by women in Leicester. It is the women who are usually doing the hardwork in the background which forms the glue that holds communities together.
When you tweet about Tommy Robinson pretending to be endorsed by our Armed Forces, expect to receive lots of Islamophobia. Racists aren’t original are they? It’s par for the course when you’re a woman, to be called a whore on Twitter.

I along with many British Muslim women are very concerned that

Many young women who wear hijab go to clubs in the UK. This shouldn’t have happened. The question of whether a hijabi woman should be going to a club or not, is frankly irrelevant. ‘Woman 'wasn't allowed in nightclub after refusing to remove her hijab'
Suicide is a very taboo subject amongst South Asian and Muslim communities. It is often brushed under the carpet, so to speak, or hidden away. In order to prevent suicide it’s critical it is spoken about more & no longer stigmatised
