Reason women don’t fast whilst on their periods is because Islam acknowledges it would be too taxing. It’s not an exemption of practicing faith it’s a blessing & even an honouring of Muslims women’s bodies by Allah. Allah didn’t tell us to hide our non-fasting so I will not be.

I visited a Gurdwara in Southall this week who say they are feeding around 10,000 twice a day and demand is growing. The entire effort is run by volunteers, like the elderly women you can see in the picture below chopping vegetables.

Yesterday I saw an ad on @SpareRoomUK which said Christian & Catholics allowed but not people of other faiths. I had time so I reported it. I just got an email from @SpareRoomUK to say they can’t do anything cause religion isn’t a protected characteristic? But YES it is !

My follow up question would be how does this new rule imposed on Muslim student not once again push them into a space where they will be stigmatised for expressing themselves in their daily life? And isn’t the French government encouraging this stigma into their public lives?

It’s telling of the #UKYA publishing sphere that the biggest YA books right now are #USYA titles by #PoC . Imagine if the UKYA books by PoC were supported in the same way as USYA books. Not blaming authors. I’m pointing out the neglect of UKYA publishers of UKYA PoC writers.

Many of you will probably have seen the video posted of a Black woman being detained over bus fare whilst her young child watches on severely distressed. Met confirmed to me that the women was attested then de-arrested after they’d established she’d paid for public transport. 1/
