Schools should have a mental health class for credits. Classes where student learn about anxiety, stress, and depression as well as coping strategies. Mental health is as important as academic achievements. Treat it as such.

When in doubt, seek advice. Had to make very big decisions this week and Iโm very thankful for family and mentors. Thatโs to say: Iโm officially a medical student starting this summer.

I just got to review moms manuscript. She was invited to write a paper about her life, after becoming the first Arab woman to win the global IUPAC Chemistry award.
Canโt get over the fact that she did this while still battling gallbladder cancer. All while smiling. Love you, mom
Excited to share our work on CVD burden in Jordan is now in BMC Public Health. A first, using GBD data, it highlights the urgent need for more research on understudied Arab populations in the realm of public health research.

The fact that the world is going through a pandemic and peopleโs lives are changing drastically should not undermine the magnitude of your feelings. Your mental health concerns are always valid - even if you think someone else is experiencing worse right now.

Menโs

- Suicide is the most common cause of death for men under the age 49
- 3 out of 4 suicides are by men
- Men are less likely to seek help for their mental health

Got a cool package in the mail today all the way to the UK! Super happy for and proud of my mentor
@drdustinduncan
for authoring this fantastic book and honored to have co-authored a chapter with him.
Amidst all the madness around COVID-19 these days, I feel blessed to be in Jordan. A country with limited resources utilizing all its machinery to protect its citizens and allow us to walk out of this epidemic safely.
Today, I'm thankful to the Jordanian government. #ุงูุฃุฑุฏู
A person close to my heart told me today that she will dedicate her knowledge, time, and efforts to cancer prevention research once she beats cancer.
Thatโs the most beautiful thing Iโve ever heard.

The roots of mental health issues are a result of interplay between physiological, psychological, and social factors. The same exact factors that can contribute to a headache or chest pain.
For the people in the back: MENTAL HEALTH IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS PHYSICAL HEALTH
I am thrilled to share that I have been promoted to the position of Associate Dean of Health Equity Research at

So many undergraduate advisors cancel the dreams of URM & First Gen students every day, every application cycle. We are not here for it. Donโt cancel your dreams for someone who has NOT walked your shoes and is not even in medicine. They donโt have the authority to tell you No.
If someone opens up to you about their struggle, don't tell them about the other person who had it "worse" and still made it.
It is not a competition of who deals with the most pain. Don't belittle genuine pain. Show empathy and compassion; Sharing takes courage

"I never had money to even ride a train. My mom used to give me money to go to practice and I'd tell her one day I'm going pro and I will repay you this money" - Riyad Mahrez, who signed with Manchester City this week.
I will always be grateful for such a fantastic mentor that helped me grow over the past four years. One day I hope to return the favor by mentoring young scholars in public health and medicine. Lets all keep learning. Thank you, always.

Thankful for my great mentor

for the platform and resources to conduct health research in The Middle East, a very understudied area with many vulnerable populations whose health can improve profusely from public health research!
COVID-19 has changed OUR world w/ SIGNIFICANT despair & devastation. However, I am PROUD of our lab for understanding social dynamics of COVID-19, including in the Middle East.

Trumpโs rally in Tulsa today is indoors. No masks required. No social distancing required.
Heโs violating the CDCโs guidelines (and frankly, common sense) to chant on how heโs making America great again.
Youโre making America sick, not great, today.
Daily reminder: it is absolutely okay to take a break from your social life to focus on yourself and your wellbeing. You do not owe anyone an explanation, and the real ones will always stick around.
#MentalHealthMatters
In many cultures, mental health is closely associated with religious or spiritual life. Always remember that how you understand your own mental health, and any problems you experience, will be personal to you.
Separate mental health from culture and traditional beliefs.
Our new reality is to co-exist with the coronavirus. We need an inclusive approach; one that leaves no one behind. This includes a focus on those already suffering from chronic illnesses and are immunocompromised. Safe access to healthcare should be prioritized.
Just a reminder that Trump fired the CDCโs global pandemic team two years ago.
We are now all quarantined at home, economies are crashing and life as we know it is on pause because of a global pandemic.

Amazing disease, this covid-19. Seems primarily to target the likes of Prince Charles and Idris Elba, but not nurses, homeless people or carers. I wonder why that is?

During such uncertain times, we should all remember that panic or miscommunication can be the most infectious of communicable diseases. Be conscious of the information you share and the words you may use describing the situation.

You are not alone. Anxiety and depression are more common than what is portrayed to us, and I hope this tweet shows you.

Letโs not only think about controlling the

, but also about how we need to address xenophobia that turned out to be spread more than we ever imagined.
The culture of every university and workplace is being tested amidst

global outbreak. Abandoning your students/employees is not a reassuring measure. This will extend beyond this time of crisis and speaks a lot to an institutionโs priorities and loyalties.
You canโt be neutral in situations of injustice. Being silent is just as bad as being in favor of injustices.
As a human, you have a duty to stand up for what is right.
It is your job to look for something cool in everyone you meet, it is not their job to show you. Learning to appreciate people you meet is a skill you cultivate.
I cannot emphasize this fact enough: you will be put through the same lessons over and over again until you learn them.
Be conscious, recognize patterns. You wonโt grow and things wonโt change until you make the effort to do so.
Every few weeks or so, dedicate a day for self-care. Sleep in, get a haircut, workout, or do absolutely nothing and enjoy some worry-free time. In the midst of our busy lives, we need to remember that self care is important and we are responsible for it.
#mentalhealth
Daily reminder: donโt invalidate peopleโs struggles because youโve been through worse.
It doesnโt mean they canโt feel what theyโre feeling just because you had it worse.

Physical distancing and social distancing are not the same.
Stand further physically, but closer socially. This is a time where you need to stay in touch more than ever. Donโt underestimate the effect social isolation can have on your wellbeing.
Interesting to see how personal freedom becomes irrelevant when we are implementing policies to combat an epidemic.
What matters to us suddenly changes when its our lives on the line.
This makes my blood boil. Schools should put strong policies regarding disability education. Teach kids that we should bridge the differences - accept, support, and learn from people of differences. Time we step up and foster neuro-diversity.

You donโt have to be a person of color to condemn the systematic injustices faced by millions of people around the US every single day.
Now read that again.
Toxic masculinity: misogyny, homophobia, normalizing violence, and emotional repression.
Masculinity: devotion to work, expressing emotions, and seeking help when needed.
Understand the difference. "Masculinity" is never an excuse to justify wrong actions.

So I'm helping a kid I know with some college applications and I have some thoughts. My friend has a GPA of over 4.0 and a star in track and cross-country. She grew up Black in a white rural town in CA--oh and she's homeless. She's living with a friend's family.

Let me make one thing clear: Judaism is the closest Abrahamic religion to Islam. People on this part of the world are taught to love their Jewish brothers and sisters, and to care for them like their own. [2/6]
Every action we take now is worth ten tomorrow and a hundred in a week. Every inconvenience and caution today will save hundreds if not thousands of lives. Please, let us stay responsible.

I hope you understand the dimensions of such notions - I hope you comprehend that Arabs fear for their lives abroad because of what you're told. I hope you understand that by telling you everything youโve been told, they make us fear when our accents get called out. [4/6]
Decades of unconscious stigmatization of mental health in our region and constant socially-constructed definitions of gender roles for males and females. Time for healthcare professionals, among many other social workers, to work on changing this mentality.

Equating the beautiful faith of Judaism with the state-sponsored violence that kills thousands and thousands of innocent lives is an insult to religion, and serves no purpose but to blur your moral compass and make you justify things that are in no world justifiable. [3/6]
