Another day, another full day vaccinating (gave my first AZ doses too).
I think this will be my Saturdays from now on! These clinics are just so good for the soul; seeing clinicians I haven’t seen for months & the smiles on the patients faces is just the best.
#covidvaccine
I’m a GP. I don’t work Tuesdays.
I dropped my kids at school, just had a tennis lesson and I’m meeting my mum shortly to take her to the cinema.
All these things keep me sane.
No apologies for working “part time”.
#teamGP
What I’ve learnt from the last month of seeing 100s of children with cough/sore/throat and fever etc?
As a society we need to do better at normalising minor illness & high temperature. The current comms & messaging isn’t working. When it is ok & when parents should worry
#teamGP
Anyone else getting tired of the GPs are closed, not trying hard enough, no appointments etc rhetoric? We are trying so so hard, workload is mounting as demand increases and backlog in secondary care affecting us.
Feeling it today! It’s a tough gig
#teamGP
3 years ago I started
#couchto5k
to try get fitter after having two kids. I thought I was too busy to fit it in & would be the worst runner ever.
I soon found
@parkrunUK
a few months later which kept me going.
Now it’s all about building up to a marathon.
How times change.
A plea from this GP…
If you have a new cough (even if it’s mild), please get a PCR test. We cannot rely on lateral flow tests to rule out covid as a cause of your symptoms.
🙏
#teamGP
I enjoyed that +++
?BBQ today
Any other medics use the good old “+++” to show agreement/enthusiasm or “?” to query something in regular non medical family life texting/writing?
I forget that it looks weird to others.

Helped to induct our new GP trainees this morning. Being a trainer means trying to combine positivity/ joys of the role with realism about the challenges we face in primary care. Tough balance but I remain proud to be a GP and an educator.

Signing out of work for last time in 2022. Saturday morning clinic ☑️
Huge thanks to all the NHS staff working across the long bank holiday weekend. It’s harder than ever across the system at the moment.
#tired
Have any other GPs noticed that expectations are ⬆️ this year re waits for urgent contact.
Expecting appointments within 1-2 hours of contacting us. We do a huge amount on the same day but often 4-5 hours after initial contact to practice.
We’re not an emergency service?
My practice have put on a clinic and provided childcare at the surgery all morning (qualified nursery staff) to enable more women to attend for the cervical screening. I think it’s a great idea and has been a successful day!
I really don’t understand how we can work any harder?
My thoughts
#teamGP
We have already changed our access model so we no longer have the “8am bun fight”, we have a cloud based phone system, we have brilliant pharmacists and see 70% of patients on the same day.
There was rain, sore knee, blisters… but the most joyous run around london. The support was just incredible, hearing my name every few seconds was so special.
Thank you to all those that sent messages of good luck and how have donated to
@RMCHcharity

Three years ago today I officially became a GP partner. I had no idea what was to come (thanks pandemic) but I have learnt so much. I will continue to celebrate the important role general practice plays within the NHS… and continue to ignore media outlets suggesting otherwise!
What else would I wear to give our local GP trainees a teaching session on exercise?
Also, how many times did I mention parkrun? 🤣😬
Nearly as many times as I said the best form of exercise is one you enjoy and can afford.
#parkrunpractice
Another day, another opportunity to blame general practice for the high demand across the NHS. Why do these articles never mention how much work we are doing? To release this following the busiest day we’ve ever experienced is so frustrating 🤯
#teamGP
you are appreciated.
Special “good morning” to all fellow NHS staff on their way to flu clinic. Shame no
@parkrunUK
for me but more important responsibilities today, looking forward to protecting 100s of people against flu. 💪
8 years ago I started my final GP training rotation at the practice I still work at. Trainee > salaried GP > partner. I hope everyone’s changeover week is going OK.
#teamGP
I bought this house because of the hallway and the ability to put a huge tree up. Other people fall in love with houses because of where they can put a Christmas tree right?!
Ps I don’t care it’s November.
Well 17m in to the pandemic and I couldn’t avoid it any longer
#covidpositive
.
This headache is unpleasant. Typical delta variant symptoms with short lived fever, negative lateral flow, positive PCR.
Being double vaccinated hopefully means I continue with fairly mild symptoms🤞🏼
When my work colleagues think it’s hilarious people recognise me from Twitter 😂 Fab early birthday present. I’ve made some amazing connections on this app - shame it’s not the same as it was, but always grateful ❤️
We’ve had lots of calls from parents when child been coughing or had a high temp for < 1 day. I can understand their worry but I’m not sure a GP appointment is the right place for them given the current ridiculous demand (we already triage and signpost etc).
Just finished our Sunday session at the vaccine hub. Nick ⬇️ was my housemate at uni, great to both be on site as lead GPs today. One of the perks of working these shifts is seeing pals and colleagues of old.

Left work & won’t be returning until the 28th. It’s such a treat to have the week off before Christmas this year. It’s come at a good time, I’m exhausted after such a full on few weeks. Feel a little bit like I’m leaving folk in the lurch but also so aware I need a break.
#teamGP
Literally best conversation I’ve ever had with med reg on call today. He massively helped me out with a patient but best bit? He remembered me from my medical SHO days when he was an FY1... ah the memories! And he thanked me for helping him learn the ropes way back when ☺️
For me
@parkrunUK
is much more than running and times but who doesn’t love a PB?!
First ever parkrun (May2017) 35.46
2017 PB - 30.42
2018 PB - 28.43
2019 PB - 26.01
2020 ?
It’s such a great initiative, join us for 2020. It brings so many benefits; fitness, friends and flapjack!
So excited to helping to put together a local GP training scheme parkrun takeover! I’m really hoping to see first timers aplenty volunteering, walking/running. Local trainees & trainers I’ll be coming to you to fill the roster!

I stupidly just looked at Strava and realised it’s been exactly 3 months since I went for a run 😱 I’m going to try get out for one today, think it’ll be slow and short. Not feeling like a “runner” these days.
My first parkrun
@DalbyForestpkr
and what a beauty of a run it is! Happy with a time of 29.19.
We will be back - highly recommend to yorkshire parkrunners, I loved it just as much as fountains.

10 yrs ago this week I started as a GP trainee in my final post. Crazy to think I’ve actually worked in one place for 10 whole years. From trainee to salaried GP to partner and trainer. What a 10 years it’s been. I wouldn’t do GPing anywhere else.
#teamGP
I don’t want to go back to work next week. Sunsets and sea views have been relaxing and energising in equal measure. I think I’ll keep the muting and avoidance of GP drama on Twitter even when I’m home at the weekend!!
During 2020/21 I’ve done a lot of new things as a GP; PPE, SOPs, zoom, accuRx...I didn’t expect any of the TV/radio stuff but it’s good to do things outside my comfort zone. This census project was great & seeing everyone notice during
#Gogglebox
last night was fun!

@KarliLay
Really difficult, we’re often asked to write letters to prove child attended. Schools do not need these and we should be trusting parents to make decisions about their ill kids and school attendance. Bullying parents around percentage rates of attendance is just wrong.
This was my first conference, I arrived on Thursday knowing only one or two faces & a few twitter handles. I had been anxious about going on my own.
The past 2 days have been just fantastic; I am leaving Liverpool feeling inspired, energised & enthused. Thank you!

#RCGPAC
I did it, half way through I decided to download
#couchto5km
again, thanks
@ian_rutson
for the push. I’d been debating it for a while but felt a bit silly that I’d let my running slide over the last 12months. I cannot wait for
@parkrunUK
to come back.
Week 1, Run 1 ✅
I stupidly just looked at Strava and realised it’s been exactly 3 months since I went for a run 😱 I’m going to try get out for one today, think it’ll be slow and short. Not feeling like a “runner” these days.
A late Sunday afternoon little run with the 🐕 to clear my head. Forgot how good it feels to stretch my legs & get the headphones in. I haven’t run consistently for a long time but really want to get back in the routine as I know I feel physically and mentally better when I run.
Back home after two weeks and really don’t want to get back to “normal”. What a rejuvenating trip. I’ll miss the blue skies, sunsets and opportunity to really relax. Just what we all needed.
@thismorning
Morning
@thismorning
, can you also survey GPs too? I have seen a huge amount of patients face to face in the last 12m. It shouldn’t be a binary question, we see f2f where needed/appropriate but also are able to offer other forms of consultation.
Two faces of Abbie today. Telephone appointments and then plenty of triaged face to face contacts. General practice is well and truly open and available despite
#covid19
changes.
#teamGP
Well that’s it, after completing a PGCME, attending many mentoring meetings, intending trainer meetings, trainer workshops, half day release, trainer course.. I WILL BE A GP TRAINER exactly 5 years after I qualified as a GP! Looking forward to sharing my enthusiasm for the job.
So any other GPs struggling with queries/workload related to priority group 6 and covid vaccination!?
So many patients getting in touch asking if eligible. So many patients disappointed that not in green book specifications. Some tough conversations on risk/data etc.
#teamGP
I understand and support the second dose thing, but the wasted dose bit... if we can’t contact an 80+/health or social care worker for last minute extra dose, surely better to vaccinate someone who can attend at short notice, even if lower down priority group, no?
I ran a half marathon on my treadmill this morning. Never thought I would want/be able to do that. Bit bonkers really but needed to get some more miles in the legs. This marathon isn’t going to run itself!
Thanks
@Susie__Chan
for the 💯 shoutout too.
Slightly taken aback to get an applause from the
@CityofYork
green bin chaps in Osbaldwick while doing my home visit. What a friendly crew. Think the PPE gave me away! It’s those guys that deserve the applause. Sorry I had a puzzled expression and didn’t appear more grateful!!
22.12.20: exactly 2 years ago & the first official day of covid vaccinating with
@Nimbuscare1
. I had the role of “lead GP” & it was one of the best days of my career. I worked with so many wonderful people during my vaccination shifts over the following weeks & months.
#teamYORK
How do we manage clinician absence if not to postpone routine care?
We do not cap daily appointment numbers so all urgent cases are looked at before 6pm.
We need more room space, more GPs, less targets, improved funding pathways and more understanding of the challenges we face.
Thanks for having me
@AmyGarciauk
on
@BBCLookNorth
. Important that local residents feel reassured that we continue to prioritise patients in the 80+ age group at the local vaccination service. If you haven’t heard from
@priorymedicalgp
yet, we will be calling soon.
General practice:
Where just one interaction with a patient/family can uplift you and realise all the rubbish days are worth it.
We need to protect and invest in general practice before it’s too late.
Happy weekend
#teamGP
and thank you to those working in OOH.
@emmaspencer1975
Indeed. I think we are too obsessed with numbers as a society too. It’s 39.2 & then 30 mins later it’s 38.9. We need a massive education piece on why it doesn’t matter what the number is (in general, caveat re tiny babies), how is the child behaving & to

I did it! I’m a half marathoner. Next time I want to do it fully fit and in cooler weather please! So awesome to run with my bestie, she started her running journey 6m ago after winning a place in the ballot! Well done Linds
