Earlier this month, a woman was being transported from Canberra Hospital to Claire Holland House. Our ACTAS paramedics went beyond their call of duty. They drove the woman to her favourite spot in Canberra – the Eucalypt Gardens at the National Botanic Gardens. Thank you ACTAS.

Thank you to ACTAS Patient Transport Officers Nicole and Amy, who spent some quality time with a patient they were driving to hospice care. On the way the patient requested fish and chips, and some sunshine, so the trio enjoyed peaceful moments by the lake, talking about life.

Tonight’s NYE in the City event has been cancelled due to unprecedented extreme and highly unpredictable weather conditions. A deterioration today – with high wind gusts, heat, dust, smoke haze and likely thunderstorm – has led to the decision being made due to public safety.

Mary’s Hill fire, is approx 8 km from the ACT border, and approximately 41 km from the urban interface, it's 120 hectares in size. ACT ESA's Firebird 284 is water-bombing the fire and ESA has activated pre-positioned crews to assist NSW on the fire ground.

Two @NSWRFS Large Air Tankers (LAT), a Boeing 737 and a Hercules C130 have been on standby at Canberra Air Base today. The 737 aircraft is preparing to depart the ACT to assist South Australia in firefighting efforts, but we still have air support available for us if required.

Smoke in the ACT: Over the next two days visible smoke is expected across the ACT from the fires burning across the border. The smoke is predominantly coming from the south east and expected to linger. There are currently no major grass or bush fires in the ACT.
