**UPDATE*** At around 10 PM law enforcement in Nevada located and stopped the suspect vehicle in this case. The juvenile was recovered safely and police have detained a male suspect. The investigation is ongoing at this time. Thank you to everyone who shared this information *
BREAKING: Armed Robbery just occurred at Yakimex grocery store. The suspect was disarmed by store employees and locked inside until Yakima Police arrived and took suspect into custody.

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Trooper Justin R. Schaffer, who died in the line of duty today. Justin passed away at the age of 28 after serving 7 years with WSP. This is a time of enormous grief for our agency, family and the community he served.
YPD has implemented a change in our officers’ personal protective equipment. YPD officers are wearing protective masks, eye protection and gloves during public interactions. YPD is not sick, we are doing our part. Thanks for your support.

(1/2) Please be on the look out for 25 year old Erika Marie Sanchez and her three year old daughter Illiana Perez. They were last seen on Tuesday (08/18/2021) morning in the Yakima/Selah area.

Detective Angie Nielsen, a 20 year law enforcement veteran, lost her courageous battle with cancer today. Detective Nielsen was a valued member of the Yakima Police Department and previously served with the Union Gap Police Department. We were all honored to serve with her.
Missing/Runaway: 11 yr old Jonathan Robertson was last seen in the area of Wilson MS around noon today, wearing black glasses, blue "Harry Potter" t-shirt, blue or green jogger style pants and a gray back pack, blonde hair, 5'00" tall, approx 100 lbs.

K-9 Dexter has helped capture 3 criminals!! Last night he helped capture a known gang member in the 500 block of North 6th Street & helped locate a man who was a suspect in several thefts. On Friday he helped locate a wanted man on North 5th Ave.

K-9 Dexter was called out to assist YSO with a barricaded burglary suspect. The suspect was inside a residence and refused to come out, so Dexter went inside, searched the home, located and apprehended the suspect!

Officer Jim Wolcott. He leaves after serving 32 years in law enforcement, 31 of those years with YPD. On his last day, he wore the same uniform and equipment he was issued on his first day on the job in 1987. Thank you for your service.
The search for Lucian continues. SAR, along with multiple agencies and volunteer teams have continued to work tirelessly. Again, if those in the community would like to help, they are more than welcome to participate. Updates will be provided if there is any breaking information.

Yakima Police are asking the public to help be on the lookout for a missing juvenile. Lindsey was last seen near 72nd and Washington Ave wearing a gray sweater, pants with a Mickey Mouse pattern on them and a black backpack. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
This afternoon, Yakima Police Officer Isaac Hernandez was sworn in as a fully commissioned police officer after successfully completing his probationary period. Officer Hernandez's mother had the honor of pinning on his badge. Congratulations Officer Hernandez!

Busted! This weekend a 28 yr old male wanted on multiple felony warrants from Texas and Oregon thought he could outsmart YPD K9 Trex by running from police and hiding in a garage. Fortunately Trex and his nose were on point and led officers directly to the suspect. Good boy Trex!

THE NOSE KNOWS
Earlier this week, officers responded to a felony violation of a No Contact Order. Upon arrival, the suspect refused to cooperate and decided to hide inside the house. Officers surrounded the residence while a search warrant was applied for, and approved.

On April 13th, 2019, Deputy Justin DeRosier made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to help someone within his community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy DeRosier's loved ones, the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office and all of our Law Enforcement family.

Yesterday, a citizen flagged down an officer and explained how it was a family members 10 birthday and the pandemic has put a real damper on her day. Several officers visited the B-Day girl gave her some YPD swag and some pizzas. Happy Birthday young lady!

AVOID THE AREA

Yakima police continue to ask for the community's help in locating Jonathan "Jack" Roberts, a 15-year-old who was last seen by his family on April 9th. Police suspect the teenager ran away. Contact Yakima police at 575-6200 or call 9-1-1 if you have any info.
The YAKIMA AIRPORT is not operating flights at this time due to a serious crash. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and crashed into power boxes and the control tower. Impairment is suspected and the driver has life threatening injuries.
Around 7:30pm, approx 50 peaceful protesters were out near Fair Ave & East Nob Hill Blvd. There was minor traffic congestion in the area. By 9:30pm, nearly all the protesters had dispersed. Thank you, Yakima, for continuing to exercise your rights in a peaceful manner

(1/2) As many of you know, there was a video that was circulated through social media, which depicted one of our K9 Officer's using force on a suspect who was under arrest. Several community members have expressed their concern about what they saw on the video.
