I applied for money 3 or 4 times to do this research, but the grant applications were all rejected. Not sufficient impact or novelty. Fortunately I could do the research anyway. The paper was rejected at Nature Neuroscience for lack of novelty.

yes. I’m all for experienced people giving advice on how to write a grant, but I question the premise that the reason for applying should be bcs your worth is evaluated in terms of grant income. My advice: only apply for funding when you have a great idea you’re itching to test
Cool application of GANs (generative adversarial networks), generate T2 image from T1 (or vice versa). Work by two master thesis students (Simon Karlsson, Per Welander), for which I was the examiner.
I’m getting the strong impression from everyone around me that academic peer review is in a state of collapse — reviewers are increasingly difficult to find, program committees and editorial boards are collapsing, and yet there are more submissions than ever. Discuss.

My fellow scientists: what's the worst injury you've endured on the job?
I've had super concentrated HCl just go straight through my gloves. That was pretty bad.
New preprint, we use a 2D projection approach to train a CNN to predict age from 29,000 brain volumes. Training takes about 1 hour on a single graphics card.
For PNAS we got a major revision, but had to increase the number of group analyses from 2 million to 3 million to convince the reviewers. Never give up.
This is incredible!
China 🇨🇳 is testing it’s new autonomous electric train that does not need traditional tracks. It runs on a virtual track. Can go everywhere.
I think that at first submission authors should only submit a pdf, and not fill in any forms at all. If the editor decides to send out the paper for review, the authors are asked to fill in all forms.
Once during my PhD I got 11 pages of comments on a paper. At first I thought it was really bad, but I later understood that a reviewer only writes 11 pages if they want the paper to be good.
