Tweets by Volpin Props founder Harrison Krix. We make gaming replicas and Esports trophies. Words here express the opinions of my company. It's my company
To anyone who booed an announcement at Blizzcon, or a Dev answer, or a property they didn't like:
You're an asshole
Your rationalizations don't matter. Opinions on what you think is good or owed to you doesn't justify your childish behavior
Grow up
It's not all about you
Con hotel, day 1: "Wigs goes here. Props go here. Makeup bag is here. Cosplay repair bag is here. No exceptions."
Con hotel, day 4: "if you're looking for the hair dryer it's hanging from the balcony because someone spilled hair gel in it and it's airing out"
Our
@PlayWarframe
Moa we were hired to build for
@DigitalExtremes
! 7 artists, 4 weeks, 70 LEDs, 1km of ABS & 50lbs of steel to bring this guy to life. See him in person at
#Tennocon
or start playing Warframe & get a digital version right here: !
This is a DIY PAPR () HEPA filtered air is blown in under pressure, exhalation passes through a check valve and is directed out the P100 3M filter. Potentially for high-risk environments- testing it without a CO2 sensor is also a good way to kill yourself.
Weekend photoshoot! Red cosplay by
@sew_angry
, transistor (and photo) by me
(I'm only a photographer when I'm photographing Emily. Anyone else and I take absolutely terrible portraits)
WE MADE A DRAGON! This is Benares, one of the boss battles in
@HonkaiImpact3rd
that we made for
#AX2019
on display on show floor - she's 10' tall, 8' long and we built her in 3.5 weeks! She breathes smoke, lights up and looks sooooo menacing.
WE MADE A DRAGON!
Almost two years to the day since I started my Kei van restoration. Nearly complete!
This is a 1992 Subaru Sambar I bought sight unseen from Japan for $950. It was a staggeringly dumb idea.
*not a render* Check out these Katanas we made for
@CyberpunkGame
! We made 9 total, each has an aluminum blade with urethane grips, save for the gold "Pimp" variant - that one is steel! They're 42" long and the neon one glows under blacklight!

Our
#ARMOREDCORE
replica: so large we had to clear off half the studio floor to check parts fitment before shipping!
(Pic taken from atop a 10' ladder)
Personal artist goal: Professional photos taken while concentrating on a sweet clay sculpt - achieved!
This is Kaalgrontiid from
@TESOnline
- I'm creating a bust of him for a giveaway happening in behalf of ESO! Awesome shots courtesy of
@LegendOfMicah
We buy our foam in bulk online from various retailers but you better believe when we run out on a deadline I'm hauling ass to Joanne Fabrics and buying some
@YayaHan
cosplay foam. I don't care if it costs a damn gold brick WE HAVE DEADLINES AND IT'S AVAILABLE LOCALLY
Our studio has had ten artists working for the last 6 weeks to make these a reality. Not only did we make all 60 helmets with illuminated bases, we also designed bespoke packaging with custom artwork and fancy vacformed padding!
Praxis on this is dangerous. Don't smooth prints with uncured UV resin and absolutely do not aerosolize it. In liquid state photoploymer resin is a major skin and lung irritant and will remain that way for a very long time if not cured adequately
Fellow makers, STOP ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO AIRBRUSH UV RESIN. Aerosolized resin is extremely bad for your skin, your lungs, and will get on EVERYTHING in a 10' radius.
Dear people who think 3D printing isn't a valid form of creativity: those of us who think it *is* don't want to hear from you, don't care what your reasoning is, and won't be convinced otherwise
Go off on your own channel, don't bring your opinion into ours. We don't care
We're one hour out from the Cosplay Contest on the Main Stage highlighting the amazing cosplay talents at
#MCVegas
!
Plus, the MagicCon 2023 Cosplay Grand Championship featuring the previous Best in Show winners! The trophy they're competing for has to be seen to be believed.
SO THE REASON 3D PRINTING IS CHEATING IS BECAUSE ITS TOO EASY YOU JUST DOWNLOAD THE FILE AND THE MACHINE DOES ALL THE WORK YOURE NOT REALLY A SCULPTOR ITS ALL PAY TO WIN AND HONESTLY THATS WHY I SHOULD HAVE WON BEST IN SHOW THOSE 3D PRINTING NERDS COULD NEVER MAKE WORBLA ARMOR LI
NDA lifted! We're making The Book of Rites from
@SupergiantGames
to show at their booth at
@pax
! I don't get to hand paint often so this has been a fun change of pace. See it next weekend at

!!!STOLEN!!!
@gstqfashions
studio was broken into last night. Among the items stolen were my Daft Punk leathers and Cathy's Tracer jacket.
Atlanta area cosplayers! If you see these items please contact us. They are very distinctive. The leathers have a dark red silk lining.
I've had one of these things attached to my face for 4-8 hours every day for the last decade. You can weather the strain of the paper version for twenty minutes at a grocery store.

Back in 2017 I went to Japan and fell in love with Kei vans. Today I brought one home! Imported direct from Japan. I bought it three months ago and it arrived in Savannah last week. I'm so excited about my little box!
We've had many questions about the scale and dimensions of our Armored Core replica, and while NDAs prevent me from sharing specific details, I hope these banana scale pics help answer everyone's inquiries!
Hand Sculpt 3D Print
Both are equally valid, equally artistic. Both require skill to make perfect. Neither is "better" than the other. Neither is "cheating"
Feel free to argue with me if your portfolio showcases equal aptitude in both disciplines (fight me)
As someone with our own eagle logo who tried very VERY HARD to avoid this painfully obvious pitfall of design choice: there is no way to do this that is an accident. It's impossible to make this "mistake"
YOU CANNOT DO THIS UNINTENTIONALLY
Took my team a month to create this, traveled safely in that crate from Atlanta to São Paulo, then someone at the airport customs office drops it during inspection.
No matter how hard I try, it's impossible to engineer out idiots.
Don't know if I ever shared this, but we hid a little note on the inside cover of the Book of Rites we made for
@SupergiantGames
last year. It's completely covered by the leather binding, but the sentiment remains there forever!
This is why I won't run my studio in crunch mode (thread)
In 2004 I started my first job after college, graphic design degree still in the mail from SCAD. I was working for an ad agency in Atlanta after getting an interview from a SCAD graduate who worked there already
I designed a 3D printed wig holder bracket for
@sew_angry
to fit styrofoam wig heads and apparently everyone has also had this problem, so the 3D files are up in my store now!
All the big studios will hate that I've finally revealed this secret, but people outside the industry deserve to know the real tricks behind propmaking...
Men in primarily male hobbies! Let's all start calling out the boomer trope of "oh yeah I'd do ____ but the wife won't let me!"
Don't crap on your spouse because you want to be a careless lackwit. You can't buy a motorcycle because your kids need braces, don't be a prat
Happy SIXTH (!!) anniversary to Transistor! This remains one of my all time favorites and we're very honored to have been able to bring the Transistor to life for our friends at

Since I'm gonna be pitching my studio to people this week: Hi! We make stuff from games. Esports and replica work, for big studios and small. We love games and we love making things from them!
Following a lunch conversation regarding oreos being both flavor donor (oreo ice cream) and flavor recipient (mint oreos) I dusted off my graphic design skills and half-assed this in about ten minutes. Now you have to see it, too.
2020 was rough, but I'm very proud of these three things my studio accomplished:
- Zero layoffs and no cut hours
- All full time employees got a pay raise and profit share bonus
- Hired a fifth full time artist!
Hey everybody! Just want y'all to know that Volpin Props, a company *definitely* not worth $3bil, paid about $60k in federal income tax last year because we're not lying thieving crooks!
July 1st was my first day as a full time propmaker, 9 years ago! I'd been a graphic designer for 7 yrs prior, designing PowerPoint presentations. Blegh. I missed the actual anniversary - I'm terrible at remembering dates - but here's my 9 favorite projects from the last 9 years!
Excited to try out Hades at
@SupergiantGames
' PAX booth? Make sure to scope this out while you're there! Our Stygian Blade will be at booth 1515 in all its skulltastic, shiny, glowy glory. We're really proud of this and honored to be part of Supergiant's 10yr anniversary!
We made a really cool dragon! I've always wanted to make a huge organic sculpt like this and I couldn't be prouder of what my team out together. Check out some behind-the-scenes footage right here!
Thank you to everyone who participated in our
#SeasonOfTheDragon
sweepstakes! All winners have been contacted.
And a huge shout out to
@volpinprops
for creating the grand prize. Watch a behind-the-scenes look at how it was made 👇
Oh yeah everything I've made this year is under NDA so I'll probably be tweeting about how Trump is garbage. If thus costs me business, I don't care. My friends are gay, black, trans, immigrants. You're hurting them by supporting him; I don't want your business
If you weren't a participating judge at a costume competition, your opinion on what should have/should not have won is incomplete at best. You have no idea what these costumes look like up close; what the finer details are that make a Best in Show winner. Don't assume.
K/DA Evelynn's claws! I made these to go with
@sew_angry
's DragonCon cosplay this year and I'm very happy with the results. 28 separate parts, each with 5 layers of paint to achieve the gold chrome effect!
as usual,
@PlayVALORANT
has outdone themselves 😩
they sent me a personalized SPIKE?!? along with a glitchpop dagger, singularity knife, and golden prime//2.0 karambit
thank you so much for the gifts and happy YEAR 1 anniversary to my favorite game 🤍
Some of my oldest friends who knew me well before I got into propmaking made "Volpin Protective Services" outfits and set up velvet ropes at DragonCon this year
Nobody questioned the validity of this barricade
Hey, here's a list of companies I go to regularly who make *excellent* products that we run through the grinder here at my shop. No sponsorships here, all stuff I pay for with my own money, and I'm happy to do so because it WORKS:
Got our array spooled up for
@MasksForDocs
(cc
@repkord
) and we're aiming for 110 by end of week. Going to be tweaking print files a bit to try to squeeze a little more productivity out. Makers, please check their Twitter and Slack to see how you can help
