Academic freedom is a prerequisite for science and research that is free from political bias. This week’s graph illustrates the levels of academic freedom in Asia, comparing scores in 2005 – the global peak in academic freedom – with 2021. 1/4

Thank you for your post! Just to clarify, this graph does not say that Peru is an autocratic state. It doesn't say anything about the level of democracy of the countries, but the direction the countries have been heading during the last 10 years on the EDI (see text in figure).

takeover. While rights are in decline for everyone, women’s liberties are close to nil. Access to justice for women dropped to the absolute zero point on the V-Dem measure.
International Women’s Day – Exclusion by Gender in 2022
Today marks the
#InternationalWomensDay
. This week’s graph shows the 2022 global state of women’s political exclusion, from 0 - low exclusion (dark blue) to 1 - high exclusion (dark red).
V-Dem research shows that democracies are 59% more likely to erode under a state of emergency. Like a fever, states of emergency are a potential symptom of a seriously ill democracy and they may accelerate democratic decay.
