In honor of Ryuichi Sakamoto who passed away today, I have created a video compilation of all the ringtones and alerts on the Nokia 8800, most of which are his work. Please take a listen, some lovely sounds here.
Rest in peace to Ryuichi Sakamoto, a musical genius. In terms of tech music, he composed some lovely jingles for Internet Explorer and the Nokia 8800's ringtones. He also composed the Dreamcast startup and game soundtracks.
This is devastating, I love his music.
Famous musicians writing music for technology products: a thread.
1⃣ Brian Eno (famous for his ambient music) composed the iconic Windows 95 startup, "The Microsoft Sound". He later created all of the sounds for the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition.
2⃣ Ryuichi Sakamoto (famous for his YMO work + soundtracks) composed some jingles for Internet Explorer 4, but these were rejected sadly. He later created all of the sounds for the original Nokia 8800.

A bunch of unused Nokia ringtones and alerts have surfaced recently! Here's some examples of them - these are not known to have been used on any phone, and have not been released AT ALL until recently.
