7 years ago this weekend a California boy & a Minnesota boy met. He was supposed to stay the weekend & stayed 2 weeks, a year later moved to Minneapolis & 7 years later here we are! These are our first ever photos together now we've taken many more on 6 continents together!

Int'l Falls, MN broke a record (for the date) this morning at -42° ! Not a wind chill: actual air temp. Luckily at those temps there's zero wind. The old record was -40° back in 1982. Might surprise you, but Int'l Falls on average (even since 2000) hits -40° once a winter!

The astute @CathyWurzer noted that these cold temps help to kill off invasive pests… in fact, it was cold enough to kill off emerald ash borer in nearly half of MN. -20° it starts & by -30° few survive. It’ll be colder tonight for many!

NOW is the time to get excited about increasing daylight. I always caution people that yes the solstice marks the low point, but much of January is slow to gain. February however we gain 1 hour, 18 mins: 3 minutes per day by late in the month! ☀️

A family friend was very ill last week… he told his work it wasn’t covid but he tested positive for influenza, they then told him he should come into work since it wasn’t covid then. Really? The fact so many still haven’t figured this out after a pandemic is mind boggling.
